Camp AlpineCHAPTER 2
“Do you mind if I sit with you?”
I looked up to see a tall skinny kid with a bright face.
“All of the other seats are pretty much taken,” he said.
I took a second to scan the bus. Since when did all these people show up? I nodded to the boy. What other choice did he have though, really? It was either me or the boy who was bouncing out of his seat.
“My name is Gongchan. It’s my second year coming to Camp Alpine. I don’t remember seeing you here last year.”
“I wasn’t here last year,” came my monotone reply. “My mother is trying to silence me for good.”
Gongchan gave a weak laugh, not knowing whether I was being serious or not. “What did you say your name was?”
“It’s Jisoo. Kim Jisoo.”
“You don’t seem too into the camp thing, but it’s not that bad. It grows on you. If you had asked me last year at this time if I’d be coming back, I would have told you never in a million years. Here I am though, back on the bus.”
“Camp Alpine doesn’t happen to have Netflix does it?” I asked in seriousness.
Gongchan laughed. “You’re a funny guy. I think you’ll fit in well here. Just hope that you get good cabin-mates. I lived with some pretty entertaining guys last year. We’re rooming together again this time.”
The bus roared to life and we started to pull forward. I could feel my life ending. If I had known better, I would have started my last will and testament as we rolled out of the parking lot. But because I didn’t know what to expect from the camp, I sat quietly and pouted.
“I was being serious about Netflix,” I said under my breath.
After an hour and a half of torture, we rolled into the camp and everyone scurried off the bus. I stepped off in a daze. This was really happening. My mother really dumped me at summer camp. I took in my surroundings, looking for Minhee in the process. It was then that I noticed something was extremely wrong.
There were boys everywhere.
I searched for the guy with the list. I remembered my mom saying that he was the camp director. I practically ran to him when I spotted him.
“Jisoo, right? There is a first year welcome committee at that table right over there. They’ll help you get situated.”
