Chapter 17
Camp AlpineCHAPTER 17
♦♦♦
I woke up in the morning not feeling well. My mouth was dry. The light hurt my eyes. I just wanted to go back to sleep and never get up.
I sat up so I could look at the clock on Minseok’s side table. It was already 9:45 am. Minseok was gone, probably having breakfast with the others. Just thinking about food made me feel sick to my stomach.
I looked around the cabin, deciding whether to go back to sleep or get up. I noticed that a bottle of water and box of medicine had been left on my table. At the sight of it, the events from the previous night came rushing back to me.
“I can’t believe those jerks spiked me drink!” I wailed out in the empty room.
I looked at the medicine on the table again before opening up the box and taking out a pill. Luhan really had walked me back to camp last night. He brought me medicine. And I asked him if he took baths in his money! I felt like I wanted to die.
There was a knock at the cabin door.
“It’s open,” I yelled, not wanting to leave the bed.
Kyungsoo’s head appeared around the door before he fully stepped in.
“Glad to see you’re awake.” He walked over and sat on the end of Minseok’s bed. “How do you feel?”
“Well, I’ve felt better,” I said honestly. “Remind me to kill Sandeul and Baekhyun later.”
Kyungsoo let out a laugh. I smiled at the warm sound.
“You would have been safer taking straight alcohol from them. Who knows how much they poured in the soda.” Kyungsoo shook his head. “You weren’t the only target. You just got it the worst.”
“Ugh!” I groaned. “I totally embarrassed myself in front of everyone last night. I mean, I tried to scare Luhan in the woods on the way back here. It literally does not get worse than that.”
“I wouldn’t worry too much about that. You were a good drunk, just a bit noisy. Luhan seemed fine when he got back to the fire.”
I swung off my bed and started gathering my supplies to take to the bathroom. I doubted I was going to get anymore sleep today.
“Anyway, I thought I’d come get you up.” Kyungsoo said before I asked him why he came. “We have a village meeting after breakfast in the commons. I think everyone is heading over there now.
“Oh, okay. Well, I’ll go get cleaned up and head over there.”
“I’ll wait here for you, and we can go together,” Kyungsoo offered.
“Sure!”
I hurried out of the cabin and over to the bathrooms. I prayed that I was getting there at a good time. It was quiet in there, but I went into a stall to change just incase anyone suddenly walked in. I wrapped my chest, and put a sports bra on over that. I had practice in the evening and didn’t want to change again. I ran back to the cabin to get Kyungsoo and go to the commons.
When we arrived, I could see Minseok, Baekhyun and Luhan sitting in front of the group of Jiri Villagers. Some kid brushed passed me in the doorway shouting “television,” as he jumped onto the sofa. If he only knew he was about to be severely disappointed. The furniture in the building had been arranged differently for our meeting, like a crappy version of an auditorium.
Kyungsoo and I plopped down with the others in the front. They gave quick acknowledgments of hello, but were too busy gossiping about something to spare us more than a second.
"Okay, it looks like everyone's here now, so I'm going to get started," Luhan announced taking the floor. Sandeul stood with Luhan, but let him take the lead. “Most of you seem to know why we are having this village meeting, but for the first years, I’ll explain what’s going on. Next week is the official start of the Alpine Games.”
The group of boys hollered in excitement. Even Kyungsoo cupped a hand around his mouth and howled with the rest of them. Just from that, I could tell that these Alpine Games were something that the campers took seriously.
“Jiri Village will be competing against the other villages in a series of challenges. Points are awarded according to what place w
