The Odds of Us

Minzy had packed her clothes into her bag as she heard a knock at the door. Ignoring it she closed her bag before stuffing it under her bed. Frowning at the horrible idea, she didn't have time to really think on it as another knock came. Sighing she knew Chaerin wouldn't let her answer go simply as she called for her to enter. Sure enough it was the woman she was thinking of with a smile on her face. "Hey..."

"Hey," Chaerin said as she made her way into the apartment. "I took Youngbae home and you know what I need to know why you will be gone for a week. Where are you going? Who are you going with? What will you be doing?" Minzy smiled at Chaerin's motherly tone. "What?"

"No, it's nothing," Minzy chuckled softly. "You're a great friend you know that? I don't know what I did to have such a friend like you, but I'm thankful." She sighed as she looked away, "I can't breathe. I can't make sense of what is happening. I just want time alone before I won't have it. In the hospital I thought the worst and when I found out that I was okay...that we were okay, I realized that I'm not okay. So in two days I'll be going to figure things out to help me be okay."

Chaerin didn't like her vague answer that didn't answer any of her questions, "What will make things okay for you?"

"Clearing my mind and heart of Mino," she answered honestly. "I want to be strong enough to be able to see him and let him be there for our baby."

"You know how to do that in a week," Chaerin asked curiously.

Minzy shrugged as she sought comfort placing her hands on her belly, "Would you rather I up and leave to never return? I couldn't do that to the kids who have worked their hearts out for their upcoming recital and to you who has been my main confidant. I just need you to trust me that I will be fine while I'm gone for a week."

When Minzy put it that way, Chaerin had to swallow back the lecture she wanted to tell her, "Alright, we'll need to plan out the best way to contact you and prepare your leave properly tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow," Minzy smiled. "And in you trusting me, I need you to trust me enough to not share these plans with Mino."

"How about if he asks while you're gone? Can I tell him you're just on a little vacation," she hoped that Minzy would be a little understanding.

"No, he doesn't need to know anything about me. You can just reassure him that the baby will be fine," Minzy said with a sigh. "Thanks for stopping by, but I'm really tired and we have a lot to talk about tomorrow."

Chaerin nodded with a small smile, "Fine, rest well and we'll talk more in the morning."

Resting a few minutes, she was back on her feet. Eating and packing some food for her travels. When she had that all squared away she started writing out expectations for Lisa as well as telling Chaerin what things needed to be done in preparation for the recital as well as telling her about the only way of contact would be her cellphone that would be off for most of it. Placing the said notes onto the counter where Chaerin would most definitely see them, she made her way back to her bed to pull out her bag. Slinging it over her shoulders, she moved to take the bag of food from the counter and made her way out. Locking everything up, she sighed as she walked to the nearest bus station. Buying a ticket she moved to take a seat on the empty bench and was grateful that the bus had arrived sooner than she expected. Boarding the bus, she moved to find her seat before staring out the window as the bus pulled away.

One Week Later

Minzy lay wondering if she could really go back. She grew comfortable in this small village country side living. Though she had happened to find this little gem of a place by accident, it was nice. The women of the village were a little concerned by her traveling alone and took her up under their wing as she had explained that she was only there for a vacation. But they didn't seem to believe her as they had the one doctor come and check on her as well as making food for her. It was even hilarious that the women still didn't believe the doctor that she was okay as they showed her around as well as took turns to host her in their homes for meals. It was really nice gaining new friends, but she knew she had to go back as she sat up in the motel room she had been staying in for the week. Gathering her things, she began to pack and get ready for her travels back home.

Slinging her bag over her shoulders, she was surprised at the knock on her door. She thought she had a few more hours before she had to check out, moving towards the door she smiled seeing her new friends all standing at her door. "Hi guys..."

"Minzy will you stay another day? You can stay with me," Grandma of the village smiled brightly.

"We planned a baby shower for you," Yura one of the widows who initiated the first contact when seeing her come into their small village.

Minzy was so touched as the other women smiled and nodded brightly, "Please stay a few more days."

She chuckled as she shook her head, "A few more days?"

Grandma laughed as she nodded, "Yes a few more days won't hurt right?"

She knew the recital wasn't for another three weeks and like Grandma said, a few more days wouldn't hurt. "Alright," Minzy said earning cheers from the old women who all but led her away from the motel and to their homes.

Two weeks later...

Minzy bit her lower lip as she came down to see Grandma preparing breakfast for them. She couldn't lie that she liked waking up to seeing Grandma's smiling face as she waved her over. "Good morning," Minzy mumbled as she sat at the table.

"Good morning my dear," Grandma said. "I made sure to make a tea to help ease the food down for you," she smiled brightly as she placed the kettle onto the table.

"Thank you," Minzy sighed as she poured Grandma a cup before pouring herself one.

Grandma thanked her as she sat across from her. Sipping at her tea she smiled at the girl that brought purpose back into her life. In the short time of meeting and getting to know her, she had found herself loving her company even more with each day. "Drink up for your little boy."

A grin pulled at the corner of her lips as Chaerin came to mind, "You think it's going to be a boy?"

"Yes," Grandma nodded. "It's the way that you can still hold down your food through your queasy moments."

"My friend also thinks it's going to be a boy," Minzy nodded. "She's probably worried about me. I told her that I was only going to be gone for a week and now it's been almost a month."

"What of your family," Grandma found herself asking. She had wondered about them and if they were worried that she was traveling all alone.

Minzy shrugged sadly, "They disowned me. I brought shame to the family. I can't blame them."

Grandma's heart ached for her as she reached out to take the younger woman's hand in her own, "My child I don't know much about you, but if my words can bring you comfort I see you as family. In our short time together, I can say that I would be proud to call you my own. You can be my family and I can be yours."

She was so touched as she got up to embrace Grandma, "Thank you." Leaning into her embrace, the tears that welled in her eyes fell from her eyes. Feeling the comforting warm embrace, she felt a burden lift off of her shoulders. Falling further into the hug she cried as she felt okay. For the first time in a while she felt okay to stand on her own and take responsibility of the baby coming soon.

Grandma kissed the top of her head as she pulled away enough to look down at the girl weeping in her arms, "My child look at me." When Minzy's misty eyes gazed in her own, she couldn't help but give her an encouraging smile. Cupping her face in her hands, she used the pads of her thumbs to wipe at the falling tears. "You're a strong woman you know that? Not just for yourself, but for this baby. Don't doubt yourself, you'll be okay. At the end of the day you'll be okay because I have you and you have me. You understand this, you will always have a home here no matter what. My home will always be open for you and baby."

"Are you telling me it's time to face my reality," Minzy sniffled through her tears.

"If that's what you've got from my words then yes. Go and be the strong woman your baby needs you to be," Grandma said as she bent down to kiss her forehead.

Wrapping her arms around the older woman, Minzy cried more as she hoped Grandma's words would hold true. "I will."

Bidding farewell to her group of friends she had gained and especially the new family she found in Grandma. She hugged her tightly, "Baby and I will be back to visit you."

"I can't wait for your return," Grandma said as she released her to let her board the bus. Waving at them all, she pressed her palm against the cool glass as she imprinted the memory of Grandma smiling and mouthing to her to be strong.

The journey back was faster than she expected. Standing in front of the studio, she knew she felt stronger than when she had left. Pushing the thoughts aside, she made her way into the studio and smiled seeing the various art portraits she had guessed were painted by the students for the recital. Walking up to her apartment, she was grateful to see that everything was left like she remembered it. Dropping the bag, the instant relief of the extra baggage had her rubbing her belly. She was now a little more than seven months along. "Less then two more months," she breathed as she grabbed some clothes from her dresser and headed to the bathroom. Taking a nice hot shower, she thought of all the good times she had being away. She could picture herself back in that small village raising her baby and the thought made her smile finding a home she had always longed for. Placing her clothes into the wash, she looked to her safe haven called her bed and settled into the covers. Closing her eyes, she dreamed of being back in that small village among her friends.

Minzy awoke to a delicious aroma that had her belly grumbling. Slowly opening her eyes, she blinked away the sleep as she noticed Chaerin sitting by her. She looked at her with a slight frown, "That was longer than a week."

"Hi," Minzy yawned as she sat up. "It's good to see you," she smiled.

Chaerin coughed a laugh as she moved to embrace her friend, "You're so annoying."

"And yet you still love me," Minzy chuckled as she hugged her tightly. "What did you bring me to eat?"

"You mean what did I bring baby to eat," Chaerin shook her head and revealed the delicious soups she had brought.

Minzy clapped her hands as she reached for the nearest item, "Thank you."

"Yeah you're welcome," Chaerin grinned to see she had a good appetite. "So where have you been?"

"I found a new home," Minzy said as she began slurping down the delicious content.

Chaerin tensed as she gave her a stern look, "What do you mean by that?"

"Exactly what I meant. I almost didn't come back, but they convinced me to. You should probably come back with me to see it. It might be a little out of your usual vacation areas, but it's charming," Minzy nodded.

"What about the kids? Your dance studio? Me," Chaerin asked somewhat offended.

"I said almost, I thought about you guys of course which is why I'm back. I need to see this recital through and it would be best to have the baby here," Minzy grinned.

"So you've really done it? You've cleared Mino from your mind and heart with us along with it," Chaerin huffed in frustration.

Minzy sighed heavily as she stopped eating, "I can never clear you from my mind and heart. You are part of the reason that I came back."

"So you don't care about Mino and what he's been up to since you've been gone," Chaerin asked to clarify what Minzy was saying.

"I...care, he is after all the father of my baby," Minzy said softly.

"Would you like to go see him," Chaerin asked, knowing this could help her best friend.

"No I wouldn't, but he probably wants some answers," she said knowing she couldn't avoid him forever.

Minzy sat listening to the music as Chaerin drove them to where ever Mino was. Staring out the window, she had easily drifted off to sleep until she heard Chaerin call her name. "We're here," she said as she hopped out the car.

Taking in her surroundings, she paled as realization kicked in. Why were they at this stupid dock? Slowly stepping out the car, she folded her arms over her chest feeling vulnerable, "What are we doing here?"

"C'mon," Chaerin ignored her question as she walked down the dock to have her follow. Sighing deeply, she followed Chaerin to the bench where Mino sat staring out at the waters. "Hey Mino, I brought someone to see you."

"Not now," he huffed as he stayed with his eyes trained on the ocean.

"So you don't want to see me," Minzy spoke up causing him to stiffen. "The feelings are mutual," she breathed as he turned to look at her. Chaerin excused herself, leaving the pair alone on the dock with Mino staring at her in disbelief while Minzy moved to occupy the other side of the bench to look out at the ocean. Glancing over at Mino who kept staring at her, she grinned, "How are you?"

Mino coughed a laugh as he shook his head and finally looked away, "I lost everything when you left. I'm disowned for dishonoring my family and breaking off the engagement. But gladly Dara's family didn't take it out on her and instead lined her up with some other rich guy. I now stay with Chaerin as Youngbae's bunk buddy because they are remodeling their guest rooms. I also find myself working for Bobby who has opened up his own business since I no longer have money to my name. But that is all things I can deal with..." He paused as his gaze dropped to his hands, "I couldn't deal with the fact that you had left for a week and when the week turned into weeks I thought that was it. I thought that I had lost you forever."

"I told you that you could be a part of our baby's life," she told him softly.

"Minzy this isn't just about the baby," he said looking up at her with desperate eyes. "This is about us. Me and you, you and I. I can handle losing all of that, but I can't handle losing you. Not again...it would be the end of the world for me as we know it."

"You're a little dramatic," she grinned as he chuckled. "Life will keep going and we will keep going if not for each other then for our baby."

"So what are you saying? Is there no chance for us? Are you going to leave me on this dock alone," Mino asked sadly preparing for the worst.

"Mino my heart has been waiting for you on this dock since we left it months ago," Minzy found herself now being able to grin at the sad moment. "If either one of us has the right to walk away from this right now it's me. I deserve to walk away without looking back." His heart was breaking as she was right, he had done that to her and now it was his turn as he sat listening. "But I'm not going to walk away. I'm going to be strong and chase after my happily ever after now.Giving the horrible bar tender a chance to promise me to live in the moment." Reaching out to take his hand in hers, she gave him a small smile, "Promise me that we'll live in the moment for us."

Mino couldn't help the tears that fell from his eyes as he pulled her in. Holding her in his arms, he cried as he kissed the top of her head, "I promise from this moment on to give you the happily ever after you deserve now."

Recital Night

Minzy's apartment had turned to a mad house with costumes and makeup in different areas. Grinning at the chaos that Lisa and Chaerin found themselves in, she noticed Youngbae sitting quietly looking at the ground as if he had a lot on his mind. "Hey Youngbae what's going on?"

He shrugged as he looked up to her with a grin, "It's nothing."

"Nothing? Tell me about this nothing," she encouraged him.

"Well," he started. "I don't think I can do this."

"Youngbae it's just our studio decorated. Those people are the same people that have been watching you practice. There's nothing to fear. I will be in the crowd and you can stay focused on me if it makes it easier on you," she said as she held out her hand to show him the music note bracelet he had bought her. "Me and baby will be cheering you on," she raised her fist in the air as he mimicked her action causing him to giggle. "Now go and stretch," she nodded for him to fall in line with the rest of the class. Standing on her feet, she smiled at the kids. "Remember to dance your hearts out and have fun with it okay? I'm proud of you all and know that your parents are just as proud and excited to see you guys perform. So let's get out there and dance!" The kids all cheered as they went rushing out to the dance studio. Smiling as she made her way down the stairs, she was greeted by Mino who held a big boquet of red roses for her. "Are those for me?"

"Yes," he smiled as he took her hand in his and led her to their seats. Sitting in the middle of it all, she smiled as the students took their places before Lisa played the music.

Leaning her head onto Mino's shoulder, she raised her fist in the air as Youngbae started to dance his solo. Smiling as he nodded at her and danced across the stage. The crowd laughed as Jiyong stood up mimicking his son and cheering for him. "That's my boy!"

When the students were nearing the end of their performance, Mino excused himself telling her that he'd be right back before hopping on stage. Minzy coughed a laugh as he posed before dancing with the students to the song. Shaking her head as Mino surprisingly hit every beat precisely, Mino moved off of the stage to extend his hand out to her. Grinning she took his hand as the crowd cheered and she free styled into a pose at the end of the song. Bowing with her students she thanked everyone for coming and shed the spot light on Lisa and Chaerin.

Minzy was grateful at how helpful her students were in trying to clean up, which in turn got their parents cleaning as well. Thanking everyone as they all seemed to gather by the end of it. She looked to her precious students who stood with giant smiles on their faces before Youngbae moved forward. "Thank you for believing in us. We couldn't have done this without you."

Hayi stood next to him as she dazzled her teacher with the biggest smile, "We wanted to ask you if you would please take a chance on another dance student."

"Will you show him that you believe in him too," Seunghyun added as the other classmates stepped forward.

Chaerin gave her a knowing smile as she nodded for Minzy to turn around. In doing so, she smiled as she watched Mino approach her in a similar outfit that matched the one he wore when she first met him. Carrying a single rose in hand, he nodded to Lisa who played the music on cue as he danced his way to her. Dancing until he came face to face with her, he smiled as he swayed encouraging her to follow along as Lisa turned up the music. Minzy laughed as she began to dance to the music and soon enough everyone was dancing. Minzy smiled as Mino caught hold of her waist and swayed them to the music playing, as she draped her arms over his shoulders. Gazing up into his eyes, she felt as light as a feather as he brushed his lips onto her forehead and leaned his against her own. Closing her eyes as she swayed with Mino, she couldn't help but feel that this moment was perfect. "Yes," she breathed as she gazed back into his eyes.

"Yes what," he stopped unsure of what she was saying when he had not said a word to her.

"I want you to give me that happily ever after now," she smiled brightly up at him.

Mino took her hands in his as he looked at her hoping he understood what she was getting at. They had agreed to start seeing each other when she returned but the thought of marriage was something she still needed time on. But that never stopped him from carrying what he kept in his pocket. It was his promise to her to live in the moment and when the time was right he would ask. "Either I'm going to be made a complete fool or..." he moved to get down on one knee. "Or you're going to make me completely happy right now." Pulling the ring out of his pocket, he clutched the damn thing in his hands that were starting to get sweaty. "Minzy will you marry me? Will you be my happily ever after?"

She gave a soft sigh as she nodded, "As long as you promise to be mine."

Mino slipped the ring onto her finger as he hopped onto his feet and pulled her against him. Taking her lips to his, he kissed her with all the pent up love he had longed to give her while everyone cheered and danced around the newly engaged couple. Pecking a lingering kiss against his lips, she breathed softly the words she had wanted to say freely, "I love you Mino." It was a liberating experience to say the least as he crushed his lips to hers once more.

"I love you Minzy," he trembled as his eyes were misty with emotion. Spinning her around, he let her back fall against him as he lovingly wrapped his arms around her waist. Letting his hands clasp around their love child, he thanked them all for pressuring Minzy into not embarassing him. This caused the group to laugh and cheer. "Now you guys have to start practicing for when you guys perform at our wedding," Mino told the kids that cheered.

"Show em guys," Lisa said as she turned up the music to watch the students step up to the challenge and dance their little hearts out.

Months Later

Minzy smiled as she stood hand in hand with Mino. Glancing over at their baby boy who slept peacefully in his car seat, the two made their way into their new home. Opening the door, she smiled at its charm. Though small, it was perfect for their little family. Walking into the house that was gratefully moved in by men Chaerin had hired for them, they found their way to their bedroom. "This is where all the magic will happen. Where we'll be making more brothers and sisters for you my boy," Mino said earning a slap to his arm.

"You're annoying," she huffed as she gazed out their bedroom window that overlooked their cute backyard. It was small like the rest of their house, but one thing was for sure it was theirs. This was their little peace of heaven, she thought as she felt Mino's arms envelope around her. Kissing the side of her neck, she bit the corner of her lip as she felt his hot breath against her skin.

"And you're everything I've ever wanted. I can't wait to marry you," he breathed as he peppered the side of her neck with kisses.

She giggled as she turned in his arms to wrap her arms around his midsection, "You better wait. I need to shed a few pounds to fit into the wedding dress I want."

Mino pinched her side to have her scrunch her nose up at him. "I don't mind the baby fat. It gives me something to hold onto when we have our alone time."

"That's not happening, Grandma is coming into town for a little while until the wedding," she gave him a look as if he better behave. "She's gonna help care for baby Mino while I'm working with my dance studio."

Pulling her up, she subconsciously wrapped her legs around his waist as he then gently laid her onto the bed. Hovering over her, he gave her a wicked smile, "Then we shouldn't waste any time and take advantage of this moment."

"What about the baby," Minzy giggled seeing him eye her like a piece of meat.

Mino glanced over at his son, "He's asleep and you have no more excuses." Descending down to where he was only a breath away, he couldn't believe just how lucky he was to have her here with him. "From this moment on, it's all about our happily ever after," taking her lips to his, he intertwined his fingers with hers loving the way she melted into him as if this was how it was always meant to be.
