v.             The helping hand of an angel

Stretching his body, a smile appeared on his lips and he turned around, pulling with him the warm blanket. He hoped he had not been dreaming about everything because it had opened the doors to a whole new world and a comfortable one at it when he didn’t have to worry about reading minds, feelings or making other people or himself uncomfortable. Plus, that bed was really comfortable, so comfortable he did not want to get up. But he had to, he knew he had to because he had to find himself a proper job, especially since his last one did not end up on friendly terms when he caught the manager with his ual harassment towards a female worker. He had to work and be an active part of the community so that he could get his pension covered and have a future. Even if he could spend his entire life time at the House, he still had to pay for his staying there so ultimately he needed a job.

Having no choice but to wake up, he first entered the bathroom and made himself look normal. He had quite an interesting night discussing what other creatures existed or not and food and drinks accompanied that meeting which eventually ended up with him getting drunk. That probably explained that hint of a headache he had and why his hair looked as if he had been in a cat fight. The smell, though, was the biggest giveaway. Once he finished with that, he decided he should go by his parents’ house since they wouldn’t be home and pick up some extra clothing and other objects and then return to the House and do some job hunting. Putting on a jacket and taking his backpack with him, he walked out of his room and headed downstairs. The ground shifted under his feet and for a few seconds he thought he might have been still drunk but then he looked at his own watch and noticed it was late. As in 13:00, lunch time late. He had slept in a lot.

“Good morning.” Sia greeted as she saw him stumbling down the last few stairs.

“Good morning.” He greeted back. “I should stay inside my room, right?” he questioned, unsure if he was supposed to move or not, head backstairs or not.

“Stay here until the lock in. The reception never changes place.” Sia shook her head at him, partially wondering why she had expected him to remember and listen to what she had said.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t pay attention to the time.” Kyuhyun let out a sigh of his own, leaning against the reception desk and giving the caretaker an apologetic look.

“You guys did seem to have had fun last night. Hangover much?” she , looking busy with doing something although she did not seem to do anything.

“Yeah. And I need to go and get my clothes and then go job hunting...” he turned even more desolated and basically hugged the reception in the process.

“You can ask Leeteuk for help.” She casually advised him.

She had this really intriguing habit. She kept looking at the screen of the computer, reading whatever it was displayed there while taking to him and yet she seemed to be focusing on both. How could she read and listen to him and then reply, all at the same time? It wasn’t something that bothered Kyuhyun but it did make him curious if that was another skill she had alongside being a negative. But she had an even more amazing habit and that was the one of helping him whenever he needed.

“Leeteuk?” Kyuhyun raised his head, his attention fully directed at the matter.

“Yes. He works in HR at a company in the business district.” She finally took her eyes of the screen and then looked towards him, the same neutral expression on her face she always showed when she talked as if she was saying something everyone should have known.

“An angel working in HR....” Kyuhyun nodded his head, finding the information interesting. “Aren’t HR people usually the ones that fire people?” he then asking, finding the situation slightly contradictory.

“So?” she shrugged her shoulder. “Who says he can’t? Talk to him.” She suggested. “He might have some knowledge of the fields you could work with your skills.”

“My ESP skills?” Kyuhyun looked at her, doubting that was possible.

“Yes.” She replied, a frown appearing on her face. “It’s a helpful skill.” She shrugged and then returned to look at her computer.

“Is he in?” Kyuhyun questioned.

He wasn’t all that sure how could ESP come in handy when people avoided him upon knowing he has it. Maybe it made sense for an angel to work in HR perhaps because he could make the firing part, the dismissal moment more easy to deal with since a lot of people got discouraged when they got laid off. Maybe it made sense for him to ask someone in HR in regards to what type of job was he supposed to look for. As an HR personal, he could asses more easily and accurately what were the skills and aptitudes he could work on and then find a place where he could actually be of help and feel right doing it.

“Sure. It’s weekend.” The reply came with the same amount of detachment in her voice and body language.

“I’ll do just that when I come back.” Kyuhyun spoke to himself, starting to get a bit excited at the idea he could get help and not have to deal with everything all by himself. “Thank you.” He then smiled towards her.

“My pleasure. I am the caretaker after all.” She finally smiled brightly, her attention once again focused on him. “Always here to attend to the needs of the House and the residents.” She spoke, as if it was a slogan she was reciting.

“Except cooking and housekeeping.” Kyuhyun remembered, waving his hand towards her as he headed towards the door, the time period in which he was supposed to stay still having finished.

“Bye.” She said again, eyes focusing on the screen once again.

Once Kyuhyun had left the House, she took a few more seconds of looking at the screen before she finally leaned into her chair and thought about something. Giving it another thought, she her lips and then moved to pick up her phone and opened it in order to dial a number. Maybe it was something she should not have gotten involved in and she did not usually got involved in helping the residents at such a personal or private level but she couldn’t help but think it was a pity to not share the information when it could really help someone that seemed to be in deer need for a helping hand.

“Teukkie....” she grinned into the phone, once her call was answered. “I’ll send you a copy of the routine analysis the House made on Kyuhyun. I was hoping you could help him.”

She waited for a few moments, listening to what the other person was telling her. She smiled yet again when the resident angel agreed to help and as she kept the phone between her cheek and shoulder, she pressed a few other buttons on the computer and the file went to the destination. It really help to work in a special House where even the computer was a tool to supernatural.

“Thank you.” She spoke into the phone, hoping she did the right thing. “Bye.” She then ended the call.

Kyuhyun was not aware of this conversation and he was not even going to find out. He was in the subway, keeping his hands on the backpack and making sure he did not make skin to skin contact with anyone, just in case. The last thing he needed was for his eyes to turn blue and see something weird from someone’s past or something. Reaching his house, he still had the key and allowed himself in. He had not been kicked out of the house but his parents knew, when he moved out a week before, that he was looking for a place to stay and he was going to return for his clothes and items. He moved towards his room and then looked around. He had almost everything he needed back at the House so he couldn’t help but wonder if there was really a need for him to pack his games. It made much more sense to pack his clothes, and he had quite a lot, and some items with sentimental value since the room had provided him with empty shelves so he searched for a suitcase and then began packing. Once he was done, he just had to call a cab and then return to the house.

As the cab stopped in front of the House, he pulled out the suitcase and then began pulling it towards the entrance. He had seriously packed everything and that made it heavier than it was supposed to be. Much heavier. Just as he approached the entrance, another man walked up to the entrance, a delivery man with a metal box that also looked heavy. Before he could even ask anything, the door opened and Shindong appeared.

“Oh, hi.” He was greeted.

“Hi.” Kyuhyun replied back, having no choice but to stop and wait for the delivery men to hand the other all the food before he could pull his luggage inside.

“Need help with that?” Shindong questioned as he held on to the pretty big pile of plates.

“It wouldn’t hurt but....” Kyuhyun struggled to pull the suitcase up the threshold. “You’re hands are full.”

Kyuhyun almost fell down on his bottom upon finally managing to pull his suitcase up and even stumbled on his feet, finally having to take a pirouette before leaning against the wall and trying to pretend he had not almost made a foul of himself. He gave an awkward smile upon realizing Sia had noticed him struggling as well and now she was standing up, looking from above the reception desk towards him, one eyebrow quirked and the corners of up.

“What are you doing?” she questioned, biting into her lower lip, glancing towards Kyuhyun and then towards Shindong.

“I’m moving my clothes.” Kyuhyun cleared his voice, quickly taking hold of the handle of his suitcase to continue taking it inside.

“I can help with that.” Shindong chuckled.

The very next thing Kyuhyun knew was that his suitcase suddenly turned much lighter than it was supposed to be and right in front of his eyes, it started floating up in the air and moved even above his head. His first instinct was to duck and that made him look even more weird because he spread his legs as he crouched down and he mostly looked like a toad ready to jump. Standing back up, he watched, mouth open, as the suitcase followed Shindong and then stayed perfectly still in the air when he stopped.

“What floor?” Shindong laughed while asking, amused to see the newcomers reaction.

“Ah.... still 2nd floor.” Sia replied after searching for the information.

“Neat. Same floor now.” Shindong replied again.

Holding a big pile of wrapped plates in his arms and the suitcase floating in the air right after him, Shindong began moving, leaving a dazed and amazed Kyuhyun standing still, right behind him, from time to time moving his hand under the suitcase to see if there was any energetic, magnetic field or something. There had to be a logical explanation why through the thought an object could just float.

“You should hurry up and follow him. He’s allowed 5 minutes per object.” Sia snapped her fingers in front of Kyuhyun’s eyes.

Kyuhyun quickly followed. He was still basically staring as they reached the second floor and stopped in front of his room. It looked like Shindong was waiting for him to open the door so Kyuhyun quickly moved again, opening it and then moving to the side. The suitcase floated right inside the room and then easily settled on the ground, not even making a thud type of sound. Perfect l
