Since I am easily pursuaded and Halloween just happened, I thought it would be nice to post the first chapter even if it is much sooner than I initially promised. I will make this as a gift for this passing Hallowing but the following update will come as on schedule.

There will be a lot of information so you might be confused but that's exactly the point, so that you can understand him a bit. Please do let me know what you think.

I.             Because I am different

ESP. He had no idea what that meant until his parents hired a few doctors and those kept throwing the three letter acronym at him. Apparently it came from Extrasensory Perception and it explained why sometimes he could see things that happened, those that were going to happen or why he was sometimes pretty damn sure that he was being lied to. At first, it had absolutely scared him. It didn’t happen with everything and anything he touched but sometimes, certain objects, upon touching them he would get some sort of blurry flashes of images going through his head. Sometimes it was about things that happened, other times when he’d dream he’d see things that had not happened yet. That was alright. That was still alright. It didn’t last long and they finished pretty quickly and it wasn’t like he constantly touched objects that didn’t belong to him. With the voices it was different. Sometimes, with the people he touched, if they talked to him and told him a lie, he would hear their voices inside of his head, saying something completely different. It happened only when they said lies, he came to realize and apparently people weren’t happy with that. It was rather easy in high school because then everyone was a weird creature but college had been different. In college, all those moments in which it looked like he was standing still when he was actually having flashes or hearing their voice, were making him seem rather stupid. Apparently he looked like he blanked out for a few seconds and some people even swore that his eyes were turning icy blue. It was then that his parents started to take him serious since he had never shown blue eyes before.

He studied a bit about his condition. Apparently he was empathic and that meant he could tell or read what people felt. Psychometry had been really helpful in understanding why he could see certain things if he was touching objects. At some point it had turned cool if he were to be completely honest. When he explained his situation as ESP, people kept mentioning things that they had heard about people with special abilities but the cool moments didn’t last long. Soon people started asking if he could communicate with ghosts and fear that he could see inside of their minds and then change their thoughts and all and that was when they started avoiding him. It turned really bad when his own family started avoiding him, fearing him. He could handle the mocking, he could handle the stupid questions and he had been more than capable of dealing with the bad jokes but fear.... that had been the last straw. Deciding to shield himself from the mockery and fear, he began living by himself. It had been alright until he realized that living in a common dormitory was not helpful since all of the items were shared and all of the items and objects could have him see things. So there he was, age 29, single and looking as if he had an accident, looking for a new place where he could live. He was in a small coffee shop, wearing his gloves so that he wouldn’t actually touch things, searching online for a residence that offered some companionship but also privacy. And he did.

“Yes!” he smiled brightly, happy to have found a webpage with a guest house.

The house looked pretty ancient, as if it had been built during Victorian age, and that made it quite charming. It was pretty interesting to find out that such a building existed in a city such as Seoul where everything looked modern and cutting edge and it felt like there were mirrors everywhere. And the price was nice so that was a double yes for him. It looked like he had to fill in a questioner of some sort and if he received a score or something; he could then have the transaction and he’d have a guaranteed spot. The name was a bit weird. 13 Boarding House, who named a place like that? It didn’t really matter.

Completing the questionnaire, a welcome message appeared on the screen. Screen shooting the image on the site, he then continued to pay and waited for a confirmation about that. He got a message soon after that, just as he was finishing his coffee, and it looked like he could move right in. He wasn’t all that sure how he was supposed to feel about finding a place and being able to move in just a few hours of searching. Maybe he was simply lucky.  Moving to pay for his coffee, he closed his laptop and put it inside his backpack and then settled the bill. Checking the capture he had taken and sent to his phone, he followed the map towards the right address. Reaching towards the outskirts of the city, he looked on the mobile map and found the particular place in a matter of a few minutes. The house was big, bigger than it seemed in the pictures shown on that site. Using his mobile internet, he wrote the website page as he remembered but frowned a bit upon the results not showing anything. Maybe he remembered it wrongly. He moved towards the entrance, eyes opening wide as he took in the full image of a door that looked as if it was twice his size and took a few seconds to admire it before moving to open it.  Even the interior of the house looked amazing. It was like he had taken a leap back in time, all the way to the 15th century or something. Everything looked vintage and while it was obviously old it was also somewhat intimidating.

A woman appeared like out of nowhere, glaring at him while keeping her hands bent across her waist, looking not one bit happy to see him. She was dressed in a short skirt and a long sleeve blouse that was rather see through if you asked him, carrying one of those working type of belts, wearing military boots, her long brown hair tied in a ponytail. She was quite beautiful though her outfit seemed out of place and while she had some of the most beautiful eyes he had seen, she was glaring at him and that scared him a bit.

“Uhm...” he opened his phone. “My name is Cho Kyuhyun. I booked a reservation here. Paid three months in advance.” He quickly spoke, showing her the screen where he had pulled out the image of the site and the welcome message.

“You’re the new House resident?” she blinked her eyes in surprise, her entire body posture changing to a more welcoming one.

Just as quickly as she appeared she moved to the side. It was only then that Kyuhyun finally saw that on the right there was quite a big reception desk. The woman moved behind the desk and began tapping on a keyboard. Maybe he had the attention span of a 5 year old but he had not noticed the big computer screen or the printer. She didn’t even glance in his direction as she did whatever she was doing, as if he was not even there.

“Please wait in the lounge.” She raised her eyes from the computer only to tell him that and then point towards the left.

He nodded his head and then walked straight ahead, finding a rather cozy place right after the wall. He had initially thought that the wall was the ending wall for the room. The building was pretty tall but he had not expected it to be that wide as well. After that wall, there was quite a big lounge, several armchairs and two couches, even a table. It was amazing how he kept thinking that he place was small only to later realize it was much bigger. Placing his backpack on one of the armchairs, he sat down on another and waited. He kept getting interesting vibes from the house. Even the paintings seemed to have history so surely the building itself was going to turn out to be quite a walk through history once he searched a bit more about it.

“Hey....” the girl spoke again. “Come here.” She spoke to him, her eyes focused on the pages she was printing.

“Yes?” he got up from the armchair, hurrying towards the reception.

“I’d like to apologize for my initial reaction. Sometimes the wrong people end up inside and they find their way out quickly without asking much if I am rude to them.” She raised her head, showing him a smile.

“It’s alright. I suppose I should have called but I couldn’t find the webpage again.” He replied with a smile, thinking that it was indeed no big deal.

“Alright then. Since the House accepted you I guess I have no choice. ESP....” she put one of the papers in front of her. “Know what type?” she questioned.

How did she know about that? He had not mentioned anything about ESP as he checked the list of requirements for entering the boarding house and there was no question about abilities or something like that so he couldn’t help but frown, almost glaring at her because of that question.

“You don’t know yet?” she seemed surprised. “Psychometry seems like a sure thing.” She pointed out while looking towards his hands, noticing the gloves he was wearing.

“How do you know that?” he leaned closer to her, lowering his voice almost in a whisper.

He had been looking around for a place to stay, somewhere where he wouldn’t have to talk with people and where he could keep his situation a secret and yet he had just been inside this house for a few minutes and she had figured out one of his biggest secrets.

“The House picked you because of that.” She spoke as if that was the most obvious thing in the world.

“What do you mean the house picked me?” he frowned even more.

“Oh... a non-seer.” Her tone changed a bit, understanding something that she didn’t seem to want to share with him.

He was getting ready to talk again and ask her what was that supposed to mean but then an earthquake happened. He couldn’t help but dodge and try to hide around and he couldn’t believe that she was just standing up, looking bored as if it wasn’t anything to worry about. She tapped her fingers a few times against the edge of the reception and then even let out a sigh. When the earthquake finished, Kyuhyun stood up and looked around, surprised to see that nothing fell down when the shaking had been pretty serious.

“Didn’t you have a backpack with you?” she glanced towards him.

“Yeah...it is in the lounge...” Kyuhyun remembered, moving towards the place only to come up faced against an area with walls and paintings.  “Where did the lounge go?” he turned to look at her, starting to feel terrified since that particular place had been bigger and there were couches and armchairs there.

“It was 13:00. The House changed. It’s still here, most probably on the second floor.” She casually replied, signaling him to return back to the reception.

“Huh?” he gaped at her, starting to think that she was crazy.

He had to think that because if she wasn’t the crazy one then he had been the one to imagine an entire area and that meant he was crazy. And he had been assured that he did not have any mental issues. He had ESP but that didn’t mean he was crazy but simply that he was a bit more special.

“Alright. I will explain some things to you. If you’ll follow me.” She gave him a quick smile before moving past him and opening a door he could swear it had not been there before.

Once inside the room, he noticed a big table with 12 chairs around it, a fireplace and other paintings, some with creatures depicted in them. He was starting to feel small again but since she was behaving so normally, he could only sit down and wait for her to talk, to somehow explain to him what in the world had just happened.

“Keep an eye on the clock. When it is 13:13, hold on to something because it will shake a bit harder.” She explained as she moved towards the end of the table, pulling a chair away but not sitting on it.

“Okay...” he nodded his head, starting to think that maybe this house being old was more likely to shake during earthquakes so maybe that was why she had been so relaxed.

“Alright. I’ll assume you searched about your condition using your own laptop.” She mostly asked, her eyes constantly looking towards him, waiting for an answer.

Kyuhyun nodded his head, his eyes starting to look around the room, once again wondering how in the world such a big room could exist when the house seemed to be like 200 square
