The wedding dress

Aiming for the moon

---

“Mother, I couldn’t do that even if I wanted to.” Wheein scoffed, knowing how ridiculous her mother’s request really is.

“Of course you could. Just knock on her door.” Madame Jung emphasized slowly, making sure the much younger girl now standing in front of her with her arms crossed know how simple it would be to ask CEO Moon out, because to be honest, there has been close to none numbers of articles talking about the marriage between her daughter and the handsome girl out there. That bothers Madame Jung quite a bit before she finally realized that this is maybe because her daughter and CEO Moon have only met once.

“She’s a busy woman.”

“She’s not bust tonight.”

“And how would you know that, Madame Jung?”

“Because I took a few steps further by asking Madame Moon about Miss Moon’s schedule for the night.”

“You’re ridiculous.”

“Your marriage needs to make headlines Wheein-ah. That’s the other half reason why you’re marrying CEO Moon. Headlines equal publicity, publicity equal promotions and promotions equal more clients.” Madame Jung explained nonchalantly, her eyes reading the small words on the black and white newspaper in front of her.

“You’re asking me to shop for my own wedding dress, with her.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Then say goodbye to Paris.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Byul-shi…”

“Yes?”

“Are you sure this is okay?”

“Of course Wheein-shi.”

“I don’t want to bother you, really. I’m asking too much of you, am I?”

“No, no. I want to go with you.” Moonbyul let out a gentle smile, eyes concentrating intently on the road in front of her as both of her hands gripping tightly on the leathered steering wheel.

The younger girl, who was feeling a bit guilty for not only interrupting the woman during her work time and intruding into her office, for that matter but she also feels extremely bad when the older girl volunteered almost immediately to drive them when Wheein informed her that she was with her driver instead of driving on her own.

“Are you not allowed to drive?” Moonbyul asked earlier on.

“I had a minor accident a few weeks ago so my car is probably still being fixed in the workshop. And father seems to be worried a lot about me driving so he kind of insisted the driver to drive me around instead.” She replied as she shook her head gently, remembering how much it hurts the night the accident happened.

Luckily, she wasn’t badly injured; she just pretty much sprained her hips and arms but both the other driver and herself were able to walk away from the situation quite safely, so Wheein is not really complaining at all. It wasn’t entirely on her part either, but both drivers admittedly drove rather carelessly that night; thus it wasn’t much of a drama to begin with.

“Are you hurt?” Moonbyul frowned, feeling worried about the girl’s well-being and to be honest, seeing the older girl like this causes Wheein’s heart to beat a tad faster than its normal pace.

“No, I’m fine Byul-shi.”

“That’s good to hear. You should drive more carefully next time.” The taller girl warned; worry still latching onto her voice.

“I will.” Wheein smiled.

Now, though they are more often being accompanied with silence that has been lingering for quite some time between the two women, but it was more or less leaning on towards a comfortable one.

‘I didn’t really expect for her to be like this, not only does she is kind and warm-hearted but she’s also a very understanding person.’  Wheein thought to herself, recalling how the older girl didn’t even hesitate for a split second to accept her favour at the first place and the girl wasn’t even being a little offended by it.

Seeing the older girl now only for the third time, she felt oddly more on ease than being with anyone else that she has probably known for a long time. Just like how each time she goes to meet Hyejin, she feels super excited like a child and comfortable seeing the younger girl.

With Byul however, it’s slightly different. She does feel more relax with the woman, but at the same time her heart just won’t beat normally, it’s always fast and sometimes they even skipped a beat. The butterflies in her stomach just won’t stop fluttering, no matter how much the tiny girl tries and her hands just automatically and grossly become clammier by the time whenever she’s in the presence of the older girl now sitting at the driver seat to her left.

Plus, the girl is wearing her suit again so the night couldn’t get any better for the younger girl.

“So, we’re going to one of CEO Kim’s store?”

“No, though Solar unnie is very talented and she has been talking about designing wedding dresses now for quite a while, but she never really got the opportunities to officially open a wedding boutique before.” Wheein confirmed.

“I see.”

“Jacqueline Paradise is one of New York’s most famous wedding store, it just opened recently here. The owner is a good friend of mother so she highly recommended me this one. I hope you don’t mind me choosing, Byul-shi.”

“No, of course not. I’m just never really gone out on a shopping spree in the past.” The older girl said calmly but Wheein can clearly see the excitements behind the woman’s eyes and her adorable tiny smile. So cute.

“How do you shop your own clothes then?”

“I have… umm a stylist.” Moonbyul blushed, admitting how childish she sounded just now. What 26 year old woman does not shop her own clothes anyway?

“You do, now do you?” Wheein let out a soft laugh but she doesn’t want to the girl to think that she’s mocking her so the younger girl quickly added, “I absolutely can see why. Being a CEO at the early age must be very hard; especially when you want to impress those who work under you, specifically those who are much older than you.”

“Yes, unfortunately. But Madame Moon has been very helpful in expressing her opinions on what type of clothing that I should be wearing. It thought it was a bit ridiculous at times but it somehow works perfectly.” Moonbyul joked lightly causing the shorter girl to let out a loud laugh in return.

“Interesting, Miss Moon.”

“I’m glad, Young Lady Jung.”

Wheein blushed openly upon sensing the flirtatious and playful tone of the older girl, though the woman seemingly shown her nothing but kindness before; but this confidence radiating from the taller girl definitely makes Wheein’s legs to turn into a puddle of melting ice but on the other hand, the gesture is unquestionably welcomed and quite addicting to see.

“A-anyway, I heard a myth once about wedding dresses.” The younger girl continued, avoiding her abnormally rapid beating of her heart as her hands are starting to get sweaty again.

“Really? What type of myth?”

“Some says, the salesgirl who work in any boutique shops will sell different types of wedding dresses to the customers depending whether they are worth the beauty of the dresses or not. Honestly, it's less of a myth and more of a theory.” Wheein excitedly clapped.

“Oh, how will that works exactly?” Moonbyul wondered, oddly and fully interested in hearing more of the peculiar speculation

“If the couples seem worthy, meaning that they are so in love and will probably stay married for a long time,” Wheein dramatically paused, “The salesgirl will unleash the most hidden wedding dresses they will ever have. I’m talking about the most beautiful ones and at the affordable prices too! But only, if you seem worthy to them.” The girl finishes enthusiastically and Moonbyul, once again cannot help herself but to let out a tiny smile in response.

‘Or you could just mention that you’re Young Lady Jung, I don’t think they will be able to say no to that.’ Moonbyul thought, feeling fairly amused with the girl’s innocent beliefs. But at the same time, she also wanted to entertain the younger girl further.

“That’s… utterly interesting Wheein-shi.”

“Do you think that it’s true though? I mean, do you think we should like… convince them or something?” Wheein pondered, sincerely curious with the older girl’s opinion.

“I’m… not entirely sure about believing in them, Wheein-shi.”

“Yeah, it seems completely ridiculous isn’t it?” The shorted girl pouted, almost in a disappointed manner as she turned her face away, eyes gazing through the car’s window and hidden from Moonbyul’s lateral vision.

But then again, of course, Moonbyul not wanting to see the girl get upset over a simple matter like this because the older girl is such a gull for this kind of thing, she abruptly added, “But it doesn’t hurt to try, now is it?”

Suddenly, without warning, the previously quiet vehicle is now filled with a high pitch scream coming from the small body on Moonbyul’s right side.

“Oh my god! Really? Can we do it? Should we do it?”

Moonbyul nodded gently in response.

“Should we have a nickname for each other? Almost all married couples have one. It’ll definitely make us seem like a real couple, even though we only met for like a third time today.” Wheein, once again, clapped her hands excitedly and forgetting to act like a grown up in front of her fiancée as constantly advised by her mother earlier on.

“Nicknames? Sure. Like unnie? Or-”

“Chagiya (honey)?”

And because Moonbyul wasn’t really quite expect to hear the extremely affectionate endearment that came out literally out of the younger girl’s mouth a few seconds ago, it somehow causes Moonbyul to suddenly and rather clumsily loses her focus on her driving, leading the car to swivel swiftly before it returns normally to its regular lane almost immediately.

However, that doesn’t mean it didn’t scare the poor girl’s soul for a split second as a tiny squeal can be heard from the passenger seat.

“Omo! What happened? Are you okay Byul-shi?”

“A-ah ye-yes!” Moonbyul stuttered, “I s-saw… a cone in the middle of the road. So I-I was trying to a-avoid hitting it. I apologize, Wheein-shi.” She lied.

“Oh that’s quite alright then. That’s a bit dangerous isn’t it? leaving cones in the middle of the road?” Wheein scoffed and groaned in annoyance, not entirely knowing the reason why the older girl reacted in such way.

“Y-yes.” Moonbyul gulped loudly.

It’s going to be along night for her.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Byul-shi, remember the nicknames we agreed on using okay? Use that later instead of calling my name. Got it?” Wheein whispered softly as both of them now stood in front of the store’s receptionist area, jokingly reminded the beautiful girl with their absolute preposterous plan they made in the car.

“Yes.” Moonbyul shortly replied; she couldn’t trust her voice right now, it’s probably going to be wavering with nervousness and maybe even a slight excitement, not that she’s going to admit that to anyone.

“Hello! Good evening miss…?” A sudden voice can be heard from behind the counter, snapping the women’s attentions away from each other.

Though Moonbyul remained silent, not knowing any better on how to reply the unforeseen question from the older lady, Wheein on the other hand was fully prepared and immediately jumped in, “Mrs Moon, even though we are not married yet but coming soon.” Wheein smiled gently and looped her left hand around Moonbyul’s right arm.

‘Right, this is acting. Don’t get too excited, Wheein-ah!’ The younger girl thought to herself, failed to recognize the amount of trouble the older girl is also having as Wheein’s warm bare skin touches the clothing material of her suit.

“Mrs and Mrs Moon soon to be,” the lady smiled in return as she politely ushered the two women towards the fitting area, “Right this way please.”

Wheein wasn’t joking around when she said that the boutique was one of the most famous wedding stores in the US. Upon entering the brightly lit large room, the two women were immediately graced with the smell of the rose-scented white dresses, dangling neatly on top of the countless numbers of gold and silver coloured rack place appropriately at each corner of the room, leaving enough space in the middle for the sofas and tiny tables, preferably for customers as assumed by Moonbyul.

The floor is styled with a firm, maroon coloured carpet that allows the heels of the women to make a loud sound every time the soles of the shoes made an impact with the surface, but soft enough to allow comfortable landing that makes the steps you made even bouncier than before.

The walls on the other hand, are refined with cream coloured and flower designed wallpapers that made the room brighter than the other usual rooms even with only a single chandelier dangling at the centre of the tall ceilings, no doubt illuminating the room in such perfect and equilibrium manners.

But what took Moonbyul’s breath away was the tiny stage standing proudly in front of them, as half of the white surfaced stage is surrounded with human sized mirrors while the other half is surrounded with rich cream coloured curtains.

“This is where the bride-to-be will test and change into different types of wedding dresses.” The lady directed, “Which one you beautiful ladies will do the fitting first?”

“Oh, it will only be her today, I’m afraid. But please, do take care of my future wife.” Moonbyul confidently gave out an instinct reply as her senses are now slowly coming back to her. One thing that Moonbyul is very grateful towards Madame Moon is when the older woman taught her how to be always on her toe and to be always with her wit on. ‘It’ll probably save you more often than you could ever imagine.’ Madame Moon once said and she was right; even though Moonbyul’s mind is indisputably still flustered with the younger girl’s absurd idea at the first place, but the older girl is still manage to give out an appropriate response in return.

“Surely, you’re buying one soon. Yes? A bride to be would be not a bride at all without a wedding dress after all.” The older lady claimed.

“No, unfortunately.” Moonbyul laughed softly. “My grandmother has been very loud with her instruction that she would choose instead.”

“Byu-honey, you’re not going to wear a suit then?” Wheein’s eyebrows rose in question.

“No, unless… unless you prefer me wearing one?” The older girl hesitated.

“No of course, I don’t mind. You’d look lovely in either of them, I’m sure.” Wheen gently smiled and let out a tiny blush.

“You would too.”

“Mrs Moon,” the lady finally interrupted, “I am one of the best one in this store. I have served Song Hye Kyo, Suzy, Lee Da Hae and even Beyoncé before, when I was in America many years ago. You shouldn’t worry about your future bride while she’s in my store!” The lady finishes confidently, receiving cheers and claps from Wheein herself, now as she stands on top of the stage alongside with another salesgirl or an assistant.

Moonbyl smiled softly upon seeing the younger girl’s amazed expression and feeling a bit jealous as now her fiancée’s attention is being taken away by the lady standing on her left who is staring intently at Moonbyul’s face instead.

“Good, do your magic then.” Moonbyul ordered in return.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whoever said that shopping for a wedding dress is hard, Moonbyul wanted so badly to hug that person right now and tell him or her how she really feels at the moment.

Moonbyul let out a tiny tiring sigh as she is now sitting on the large white sofa placed directly in front of the tiny stage so that so she can see the younger girl clearly once the curtains are drawn back each time; it almost feels like watching a performance.

Wheein has tested and fitted in more than five dresses already and none of them seem to match the girl’s taste at all.

The first one was too big, too ‘flowy’, almost like it must have belongs to one of the old Disney’s movies. The design was wearable, however everything else are just too much; too many layers, to many excess fabrics, the arms area were too puffy, there were too many laces, and it was just entirely too flamboyant. It somehow overshadows the girl’s body figure.

On the extreme contrary, the second dress was a bit too tight. Moonbyul blushed upon seeing what the younger girl was wearing. Though, the dress was simply defined as the wedding dresses from the 21st century, but with the amount of cleavage exposed in the chest area, Moonbyul is definitely glad when Wheein also shared the same amount of disagreement to the said dress. If not, Moonbyul wouldn’t even where to look at if the girl decided to say yes to the dress. Plus, the dress will absolutely requires a lot of tapping as mentioned by the younger girl earlier on, it would positively not be quite comfortable during the wedding event itself.

The following dresses were just not great at all, in the perspective of the designs themselves. The dresses were good, but in Moonbyul’s opinion, they weren’t stunning enough to do the gorgeous girl some justice.

So now, Wheein is fitting herself with the 6th gown of the night, and they have been there almost for 2 hours straight already. Who would have known putting in and putting out dresses could take this long time? Well certainly not Moonbyul.

Nevertheless, even though it seems quite boring to a lot of people, it was definitely one of the most fun experience for the older girl. Moonbyul didn’t really get the much of a chance to go out freely nowadays as her works have been nothing but time consuming, every single one require an absolute attention and the number if private meetings that she has to attend every week have been increasing dramatically for the past year.

Even her times with Seulgi were always cut short as her phone always busied itself with countless of calls and emails in the middle of their ‘hang outs’, whenever they’re having lunch or having random late afternoon tea sessions; and that sometimes makes the older girl feels guilty, for not be able to spend much time with the younger girl. But Seulgi understands, no one can really blame Moonbyul.

Being a CEO does come with huge responsibilities.

“You guys are adorable.” A low voice to her left said as she see the curtains of the stage are being drawn closed, creating a temporary barrier between herself and her fiancée.

“Thank you.”

“How long have you been going out? If you don’t mind me asking, Mrs Moon.”

“Long enough to get married.” Moonbyul replied, a bit reluctant for a good few seconds but she gave out a gentle laugh all the same, knowing that the lady is probably just interested making small talks with every customers.

“I can see your love for her from behind your eyes, Mrs Moon. And it’s the most sincere thing I have seen so far.” The lady exclaimed before quietly adding, “Even if you haven’t really quite sure about it yet. She’s a lucky person.”

Upon hearing the compliment, Moonbyul cannot help but to be sceptical about it, ‘She must have said that to a lot of customers, I assumed.’

“Really now?” She challenged further.

“Absolutely! I have work for a very long time Mrs Moon and I have seen relatively a huge numbers of couples before. What you have for each other, they are real feelings even if they are quite subtle for now.” The lady paused, “Keep holding on onto this love, other people might have to cross the ocean to even get one.” She finishes calmly.

Moonbyul blinked her eyes a couple times in return, confused and amused by the sincere advice the older woman now standing closed to her right is giving her. But before she could give out a more appropriate response than just a silent, both of them suddenly heard Wheein’s excited muffled shouting from across the closing curtains.

“Alright, I’m ready honey!”

“I’m ready too… sweetheart.” Moonbyul replied tenderly.

And there it was, the exact moment when Moonbyul’s heart stops beating as the curtains were being dragged open, revealing the most beautiful angel Moonbyul has ever laid her eyes upon.

The dress was.... beautiful.

As the top half of the dress perfectly fitted the body of the stunning girl in them, the bottom half of the dress however from the waist down, flawlessly flows out to the ground, long enough to cover the younger girl’s feet. Her necklines, though not completely covered by the dress’s silky fabric, conversely instead they are disguised with semi sheer lace designed with the white flower pattern that eventually extended themselves towards the bride’s sleeves, concealing almost ¾ of the girl’s slim arms. Though the see-through Chantilly laces did help the illusions of making the dress exposed less skins that what was actually being originally planned compared to the other wedding dresses Wheein have tried on for the past hours, but the lack of modernity and high moderation of the dress is what makes the dress even more vintage in appearance.

As the girl turned around, Moonbyul can see that the back of the dress was also ensconced with the same type of laces as the front; the only difference is, the back was neatly trimmed with the small diamante buttons. The line at the lower edge of the flowing skirt was similarly designed with the Chantilly laces.

The dress, instead of the traditionally white in colour, was leaning more or less towards the gold colour.

With Wheein’s hair tuck into one side of her shoulder leaving the other one completely exposed, Moonbyul couldn’t help but think how stunning the girl is in that dress. It was absolutely stunning and perfect.

Moonbyul shamelessly gawk at her future bride, no words can defy how much she wanted to compliment the girl in front of her but she just couldn’t even say a single word. Seeing the girl like this left her quite Speechless.

The lady, upon seeing the sheer reaction given by the woman in suit, gave her assistant a knowing look and a small smirk before quickly confirmed,

“I think we have found the perfect one.”
