The familiar trap

Aiming for the moon

“Jackson, this doesn’t make any sense.”

“I apologize, Miss Moon but I received a direct order from Madame Moon to book you this particular suite number.”

“You cannot expect me to be sleeping in the same suite as my fiancée, now can you? I haven’t even proposed to her yet.”

Moonbyul sighed for the nth time, her right hand slide itself up her smooth blonde hair, pushing the bangs unattractively backward as pure frustrations now can be seen painted across her small face and shutting her eyes closed tight at the same time.

This seriously cannot be happening.

She has excused herself almost immediately when she first got the astonished text from the rugged butler, knowing right away that no good news will come along with it; the text itself was the biggest hint, Jackson never really send her a text before. It was always a call away, or an email, at least.

But definitely not a text.

She doesn’t even know how to react when she first discovered that she’ll be sharing the suite as the other woman for the night, like how are you supposed to react to that? With a smile? Or with a scowl? Now that will seems rude instead, because whether or not she wanted to admit to herself, sharing suite is not really a bad idea after all.

But it doesn’t make sense.

She knows what her grandmother is trying to do. She’s a cunning woman, a trait that will unfortunately never go away from her unusual small yet fit body.

Indubitably, she’s actually forcing both of them to spend more time with each other because she damn knows well how much Moonbyul is really struggling to put her feelings on the line, on the inside that is.

She wants to appear as confident as she could but the older woman can see her right through, and Moonbyul really hated that. It feels like as if she is being stripped every time the negotiations began and there’s nothing she could do to really hide her emotions away.

Madame’s intention is a good one; giving her more time and courage to finally ask the girl out to be her wife, officially.

But this? This is unnecessary, and not to include how inappropriate this is! They are not even married yet and Moonbyul is not an ancient person, but nevertheless, sharing a suite even, seems insensitive to her for an unmarried couple.

Isn’t it a bad luck sleeping with your wife before the event itself? Or she may actually become a very old traditional woman after all.

Unbelievable.

Moonbyul groaned softly, hiding her slim body at the corner of the hotel’s huge lobby, away from the prying public eyes around her. She just wanted to jump already from the tall building, because;

This is embarrassing, truly it is.

She just found her lost motivations a few moments ago, now Moonbyul feels like looking for a small cave and stay there until she grow old, forgetting that this incident ever happened in the first place.

“Where is Madame? I need to talk to her; she has been ignoring my calls all afternoon.”

“I… umm…”

As the man refused to continue further, uncertainty submerging his low voice, Moonbyul can hear a sudden feminine tone from behind the phone, though speaking not directly to the speaker itself but rather to the man himself.

It was unclear, imperceptible practically but Moonbyul can still able to recognize that panic and stern voice anywhere and anytime, even from afar, and even through the small gadget.

“She is…” a pause, “in a meeting!” He finished in a rush, repeating whatever excuses given to him by his companion in the background.

“Really now? What meeting will that be?” Moonbyul challenged, squinting her eyes slightly in disbeliefs and mistrusts.

“Meeting with… Dr. Phil.”

My goodness, this family.

If someone asks Moonbyul right here and then, despite of having the most powerful private company and group across the South Korea, what would be the biggest flaw of the Moon household?

Simple.

They are bad liars.

The worst, without a single doubt.

“Jackson, you may have not noticed this yet, but I’m a CEO. I know the schedules of our meetings, including Madame’s as well.”

“Oh.”

Bet they didn’t think of that one.

And unanticipatedly, she can hear like someone is blowing harshly against the speaker of the phone, the loud noise the wind made reaching the younger girl’s delicate eardrums is rather disturbing and fake as she rolled her eyes in annoyance.

Moonbyul flinched lightly as the sound doesn’t seem to be showing signs of stopping anytime sooner.

“Oh, I-I... sorry… signal… bad…”

“Jackson, you’re at home. We’ve never had signals problem before.” Moonbyul said in a matter of fact.

“I’ll talk to you later, Miss Moon.”

And he hung up.

Moonbyul glared at her wide phone’s screen and gaped openly at her current situation.

What just happened?

Did her butler just hung up on her?

Moonbyul scoffed, ‘Great he’s teaming up with Madame again.’

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“So…” Wheein awkwardly stretched, not really knowing how to approach the elephant in the room without her having trouble shying away from the girl’s beautiful and intensely dark eyes in front of her. Her hands grasped tightly against each other, not wanting them to move and flaunting around in a nervous manner, just like every single time whenever she feels uncertain.

Not going to lie, the hotel is freezing cold but she can still feel her back dripped and lining the shape of her body with her own sweat.

‘I don’t think that’s even possible for the normal human anatomy to work such ways.’ Wheein frowned; relatively confused with her own body’s reactions every time she’s struggling to handle a particular situation, and the fact that she’s going to stay the night with her absolute greasy and stunning fiancée does not really help to calm her fast beating heart and nerves in one bit.

Moonbyul gave out a small smile upon seeing the nervous look behind her fiancée’s adorable pupils, as her eyeballs shook in anxiety and moved up and down, seemingly swallowing whatever uneasy feeling she experienced at the back of her mind.

Moonbyul took the girl’s hands and gently untangle them from each other.

Wheein gasped. “No, my palms are sweaty.” She blushed deeply.

‘This is so embarrassing!’ She screamed internally, as her eyes widened in surprise when she felt the woman’s warm skin made contact with her cold ones.

“That’s okay, I don’t really mind.” Moonbyul successfully separated the two hands away from each other and instead fastened them with her own hands; palms to palms.

“It’s gross.” Wheein complained, referring to her own hands at this point but not really moving away from the affectionate ties between them.

“No, it’s not.” Moonbyul shook her head slightly in return. “It’s my future wife’s sweat, so it’s not gross at all to me.” Moonbyul took a step forward, closer to the younger girl’s front.

“Eww…” She pulled out a disgusted face playfully causing the taller one to let out a loud laugh in response, and Wheein followed by.

“So…” Moonbyul started as their laughs subsided, “the suite room, it wasn’t a mistake apparently. It looks like Madame Moon has booked earlier today. No one has really informed me before.”

She dropped her gaze to the floor, not ready to see the girl’s live reaction up close. What if she doesn’t want to? This is in fact only their 4th meeting so far, of course the girl won’t be comfortable in staying together for the night. What is Madame even thinking at the first place?

Wheein giggled softly, “I figured. I rang my mother just now and guess who’s planning the whole room situation too?” she asked mischievously.

“Madame Jung.”

“Ding dong deng! You are correct Miss Moon.” Wheein cheered, jumping flippantly in pretending excitements.

Moonbyul tilted her head to her left and smiled sweetly upon seeing the teasing tone behind the girl’s voice.

‘How adorable can you be?’

Moonbyul decided to play along as well, suddenly having the desire to see the red colour shade on the girl’s cheeks once more.

She gently pulled the girl’s hands towards her and just like how she did it before, looping her fiancée’s arms around her waist so now that the girl is hugging her. Her face is so close to the shorter girl’s face now as Moonbyul ducked her head lightly, trying to be on the same level as her fiancée.

“Do I get a prize then?” She whispered and smirked knowingly.

There you go.

There is that blush she’s looking for.

Moonbyul’s left hand lay softly against Wheein’s right arm, just above her elbow while her other right hand gently pat the younger girl’s head and brushing her bangs away a few times there and then.

Wheein cleared . “Look at you, so smooth talking. Are you always this way around women?”

Moonbyul gulped loudly upon hearing the clear warning of her fiancée’s question. Long gone was the shy expression the girl was wearing a good few moments ago, and now replaced with what Moonbyul is going to call as ‘a lovable scowl.’

She knows the woman is being serious right now, but Moonbyul couldn’t help but to feel loved. Moonbyul’s heart just swells with these imbalance feelings of aching and wanting her fiancée, much stronger than she ever felt before.

“No.” She replied shortly.

“With men?” Wheein pressed further.

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“How sure are you?”

Moonbyul chuckled lowly, finding the girl’s obvious jealousy to be absolutely unnecessary, but cute nevertheless.

‘Trust me, there was no one in mind for the past 8 years unfortunately.’ Moonbyul thought to herself bitterly.

Pure moments like these what make Moonbyul think hard on herself.

Will the girl reacted the same way if she knows who Moonbyul really is?

Is the girl doing all of this just because she’s the heir of a powerful family?

Was Seulgi right all along – that she only wants her attention because she’s no longer the poor person she really was a few years back?

Or is this feeling true?

Are those real loves behind those smiles and gentle stares or was it just Moonbyul blinded again with her dirty tricks and lies?

There are so many possibilities and unanswered questions for it is the reason why she shouldn’t be happy… but for now, Moonbyul just wanted to enjoy the moment; for being at the receiving ends of such loving attentions.

Even if all of these are acting, lies fed directly to her - Moonbyul would do it all over again if she has given a chance one more time.

Because without her admitting it or not, Moonbyul knows how addicting Wheein can be, and Moonbyul is surely, quietly and foolishly getting more addicted with her own fiancée.

Moonbyul gently held the girl’s soft chin as her thumb caressed lovingly across the beautiful skin and pulled it delicately towards her own, her head crooked sideways to make it easier for her to finally close the gap between her lips and Wheein’s right cheek.

She can feel Wheein’s mouth opened up swiftly as her lips made a mellow and comfortable stays on her skin as Moonbyul closed her eyes shut; enjoying every seconds that she gained to be held, to be this close to the woman of her dream, the love of her life.

She has fallen in too deep and she knows this.

She has fallen into the same old trap and she knows this.

Her breath tickled Wheein’s cheek and her heart beats sensibly.

Moonbyul reluctantly pulled her face away after a while and stared keenly at the girl’s still closed eyes in return.

“This much?” She whispered back, finally answering the abandoned question at the first place.

Wheein opened her eyes slowly and bit her lower lip upon seeing Moonbyul’s elegant face so close against her own; she moved closer until her nose brushed itself with the skin of the taller girl’s strawberry scented neck as she inhaled the girl’s soft perfume in the process, her grip behind the older girl’s back tightened, wanting to pull her closer and wanting to remove whatever unwanted space that existed between their bodies to begin with.

She closed her eyes once more, feeling absolutely content when she felt the woman’s arms closed around her body as well, engulfing herself in a such familiar warm hug.

“Good.” She said as her lips touched briefly with the warm skin of her fiancée. If she just moved even for just a millimetre closer, she can easily plant her lips flat against Moonbyul’s neck.

And she almost did it, but decided not to at the last second, not wanting to scare the woman further with her overly clinginess.

“Good.” She repeated and sighed in a relief manner, almost. “We should go shopping.” She mumbled, feeling a bit in daze with the comfortable body in front of her.

“Why?”

“Since we’re sharing a suite, why don’t we cook something for the night?”

“You cook?”

Wheein giggled sweetly, as it rang like a beautiful song to Moonbyul’s ears.

“Yes, Miss Moon. I do cook, my pasta is said to be good too, you know? I heard it’s one of the best.”

“Are we ditching CEO Kim’s dinner party tonight?”

“Yes, she’ll understand.”

Moonbyul smiled gently.

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Okay.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Have you ever shop like this before?” Wheein asked the girl a few steps behind her, wondering really if the woman has ever step her feet ahead to this kind of supermarket.

It’s no surprise really if she hasn’t, to be honestly speaking.

People like her don’t really go out that much; shopping, cooking, driving, cleaning… why bother doing it when you have the money to hire people to do them instead for you?

But Wheein loves being like this; to be normal, to be just Jung Wheein every once in a while and not the ‘Young Lady Jung’ she is used to hear. To be just a regular girl with no men or women in black suits trailing her around as your bodyguards, no special treatments from other people just because she carries a certain surname.

That’s all she wanted to be.

To be just her.

The smell of excessively but imperfectly clean floor beneath her flats, the brightness of the hanging spotlights above her dangling from the very high ceilings, the soft sound of the overly fast music playing in the background coming from the cheap looking and sounding speakers in every corner and section of the building, the smell of the fresh fruits from the freezing aisles, the colourful images of the biscuits arranged attractively across the tall metal shelves, pulling her body unconsciously almost instantly, feeling the sweet and crunchy textures already at the wet surface of her tongue and the sound of children and parents walking around, chattering, scolding, laughing and sometimes, singing loudly.

Her clothes right now don’t really specifically and literally scream normal, with her suggestive dark and fortunately, a bit loose red coloured dress the clings itself protectively against her warm skin beneath the soft fabric, covering only until the upper half of her thigh while leaving the rest of the portions exposed to the air and eyes surrounding her.

At least she’s not wearing heels, though that makes her visibly short next to her unnecessarily handsome fiancée, but Wheein is really glad of her decision of not wearing one because it is actually the perfect height for her to give excuses for her taller woman to get things from the shelves when she cannot seem to reach them on her own.

The woman apparently has slight impatient traits in her bone as she waits no more for Wheein to move out of the way, and instead pushing her body close to the younger girl’s back as her arms stretch upwards, retrieving whatever stuffs the girl needs every single time.

And the feeling of her fiancée’s body against her own is really…nice and Wheein really, really, enjoys the looks of jealousy from the other women’s eyes whenever they get to witness how Moonbyul reacted around her.

It’s exactly like those sappy scenes that you watch in the movie and Wheein couldn’t help herself but to blush more and shyly smiled along.

“Is this the one?” Moonbyul asked, hooking her arms around the girl’s body to show Wheein the sauce can in her right hand, and at the same time her left hand hugging the younger girl’s small waist, pulling her backwards as much as she could as she nuzzled her nose closely to her right shoulder.

“Yes.” Wheein nodded gently and she turned slightly to face the older one, and as their faces are only inches away from each other, without really her knowing, Wheein’s eyes dropped to the girl’s glossy lips in front of her.

“Okay, good.” Moonbyul whispered back, letting out a tint smirk before moving away from her fiancée’s personal space.

If they are going to keep this up the whole night, Moonbyul is not sure how much longer she could keep her hands to herself anymore. Seeing now the girl’s similar desire to be closer and seeing that her touches are actually much more welcomed; Moonbyul is not really sure how much she can control herself any longer.

She wanted to be a gentleman, or rather a ‘gentlewoman’ at this point.

God help her but to fight the delicious temptation away.

“Oh, Byul-ah!” Moonbyul turned to her right sharply towards the loud yet familiar voice and instantly smile in recognition.

Wheein did the same thing but instead of wearing the expression her fiancée is portraying, her eyebrows scrunched together instead in confusions.

“Oh, Hani-ah!” Moonbyul waved excitedly and Wheein is suddenly overwhelmed with an unexpected envy behind but letting out a tiny polite smile nevertheless, not wanting to appear rude to the tall and fit looking woman in front of her.

They seem to know each other very well and again, she tries her hardest to ignore her inner voice to glare at the short haired girl, feeling the slight annoyance at the back of her chest bones for bothering the almost perfectly romantic moments a few seconds ago.

“What are you doing here?” The so-called Hani person made her way quickly towards the obviously young couple as she bows her head lightly to the stranger next to the blonde girl.

“Just doing some shopping.” Moonbyul let out a gentle smile down Wheein’s direction and Wheein once again, melted into a puddle of hot mess.

“Omo, so nice! You must be the fiancée, yes?”

Wheein bows her head courteously and smiled, receiving both the women’s attentions on her this time around. “Yes, you can say that.”

‘Okay stop being so protective, Wheein-ah. She knows you’re Byul’s girl, no need to be jealous- oh my god what?’

Wheein gaped at the woman, now hugging her fiancée tightly as her eyes closed shut and her big smile spreading confidently across her certainly… clean face. And Moonbyul nervously ran her eyes towards the shorter girl’s reaction.

“O-oh, Hani-ah,” She lightly pushed the girl’s side torso away, trying to warn the woman of the terrifying presence of the usually puppy looking girl standing oddly tall to her left. But Hani seems to be absolutely oblivious as she hugged her friends closer and this time, patting the girl’s soft rear playfully, bouncing a rather large slap sound that can be heard across their spots and Moonbyul eyes widened in panic. “Hani-ah!”

“Omo, you’re so lucky to be marrying soon!” She finally releases the girl after some struggles, ignoring the deathly stare of the other one.

“Y-yes, I’m very lucky indeed to be married soon with my beauti-”

“Say Hani-shi, how long have you known each other?”

Moonbyul was trying to reassure the girl, trying to brush away the obvious envy of the woman but she was being utterly and quite nonchalantly cut off by her own fiancée, not really paying attention to her existence any longer; as if she wasn’t really there to begin with.

And Moonbyul is scared for her life. She gulped loudly as she silently watched the interactions playing between the two gorgeous women in front of her.

“Oh, me and Byul? So long ago, right Byul-ah?” Hani teasingly pinched Moonbyul’s flat but muscular tummy. “Byul and I served the military a few years back together, we were in the same base and batch.” She tapped quite proudly on Moonbyul’s right shoulder and the blonde girl couldn’t help but to smile happily in return, remembering the good memories she had shared with her good friend.

“You were in the army?” Wheein let out a tiny gasp, not really knowing this side of her fiancée’s background.

“For 3 years, yes.” The taller one confirmed.

“A CEO to a Star company must at least know how things work around in the army - don’t you agree Young Lady Jung? It must be ironic for her to own such a huge company without being a soldier herself.” Hani finished pointedly.

“Hani was just a student back then but she was enlisted at the same time as I was.” Moonbyul explained further. “Now, she’s a captain I believe?”

Hani chuckled lowly, “It has been just 5 years since I joined the army but yes, I’m lucky enough for my skills to be recognized as one.”

“That’s amazing!”

“Thanks babe, you’re not so bad yourself.”

Wheein extremely feels like a third wheel now; Byul is clearly had some history with this very tall woman and look at the face! And that body, she really thought the woman was a model when she saw her at first, but looking at her at a much closer distance now, she can then much clearly see the muscular shoulders, the tense arms when she wrapped herself around her fiancée’s slim body.

And the way she talks, of course her voice is laced with confidence but somehow guarded, strict even. She’s a soldier, her body and mind are her true weapon; no wonder Wheein can sense how much respect her fiancée is giving out right now because to be honest, who wouldn’t? How amazing it really is to be a captain at such young age and a female, for that matter; to carry that privilege in protecting our country alongside the other capable soldiers and how brave the woman really is, facing danger wherever she goes, risking her life and Wheein feels like the woman is not even a competition to her, not when the woman is far more perfect than her.

Beautiful, funny, kind, bold and not to mention, warm – with her ability to bring such joy to the other woman’s face and Wheein suddenly feels like she really wanted to be everywhere but there.

“I… I think I should go look around first.” Wheein said quietly, not really craving to break the obviously heated conversation in front of her.

“Oh, let me go with you.” Moonbyul immediately offered.

“That’s alright; you guys need to catch up anyways.” Wheein smiled politely and bowed her head once again to the much taller woman. “It is nice to meet you, Hani-shi.”

“It is nice to meet you too, Young Lady Jung.”

As the shorter girl moved away slowly from the scene and off to the side of the shelves where she can no longer be seen by the two of them standing silently, Hani harshly slapped her palm flat to Moonbyul’s head, making a rather loud sound that captivated other people’s attentions nearby.

“What- yah!” Moonbyul tried to soothe the pain away as she massaged her scalp slowly with her own hand. “What was that for?”

“You’re so smooth around women, you know that? But so oblivious at the same time!” Hani scolded.

“What are you talking about?”

“You piece of- You should’ve gone with her just now.”

“But she said I should catch up with you?” Moonbyul is confused now; why is she the one being lectured? It doesn’t make sense.

“She’s clearly jealous.”

“Well, why did you hug me like that just now?”

“To see if she really likes you.”

“Well?”

“She’s whipped.”

Moonbyul chortled loudly, “Come on, be serious.”

“I am, you egghead!”

Moonbyul nodded along. “How do you know I was engaged anyway?”

“Seulgi told me, and it was all over the news.”

“Sorry, I didn’t tell you.” Moonbyul touched the other woman’s right arm gently, apologetically. “I thought you were busy, I haven’t seen you quite some time now.”

“I know and it’s okay.” Hani smiled in return. “I’m truly happy for you.”

"Thanks."

“I need to go; I have an important drill tomorrow morning.” She continued and Moonbyul frowned.

“So soon? I barely see you nowadays, we should go have a drink with Seulgi, you know?”

“Byul-ah…”

“Hmm?”

“I’m going to Iraq tomorrow; I’ve been placed there for the next months to come.” Hani saw how her friend’s face dropped almost immediately and she feels bad for telling the girl the sudden news. She loves her job, that she does but sometimes, being away from her family and friends does slowly taking a toll on her sanity and going away once more without saying proper hellos to all of them is such a heavy feeling.

And seeing her friend’s sad eyes in front of her, even if Moonbyul has not uttered a single word ever since; she knows how tough it really is for the girl to say her feelings out loud and Hani understands.

Moonbyul hates feeling like she is being abandoned, and Hani knows that much.

“Don’t be all sappy on me; I don’t do well with goodbyes and cheesy words.” Hani said; but really her words instead of representing herself at that moment, the words came out of actually represents the girl right in front of her. “We should go drink together once I get home, yeah?”

Hani walked away from Moonbyul, quickly; not wanting to make the girl sad any further.

“Hani-ah.” Moonbyul suddenly said and Hani turned around, facing her. “Be careful; come back to us in one piece.”

Well damn, maybe Moonbyul has really truly grown.

“Yes ma’am.” Hani saluted before loudly adding, “You take care of that wife of yours - she’s a keeper.”

“Yes ma’am.” Moonbyul whispered as she watched Hani’s retreating back, away from her sight finally.

Now, how the hell is she going to do with a ‘jealous’ Wheein?

Someone help me please.
