Over the next two weeks, Hyori and Yoongi fell into a routine. He had offered to take some time off of work, but she had refused, telling him that she was ok on her own. She had went shopping the day after she moved in and had filled all of the cupboards and fridge. A sight Yoongi claimed to have never witnessed since he had moved into the apartment.
Jin had stopped by two days later and thanked her for providing Yoongi with actual food. He had shared a few recipes with her, telling her which food Yoongi liked the most. He had also managed to share a few more embarrassing stories about Yoongi, much to Yoongi’s unhappiness. Her wounds were healing well and she was ready to get back to her life.
“Are you sure you're ready to go back? Your arm is still pretty messed up.” He said as he ate a delicious dinner she had prepared for him. “I’ve already missed a lot of classes. I can’t miss anymore or I’m really gonna fall behind.” Yoongi nodded, impressed with her commitment. “I’ll take you to university in the morning. It’s practically on my way.” he offered suddenly. She looked at him with a shocked expression. Scenarios of people finding out that the Min Yoongi was not only bringing her to class, but that she was living with him running through her head.
“You don’t need to do that. I can get the bus. One passes by right down the road.” She said as she focused on her food. He frowned at her, “You don’t need to keep on declining my offers. I’ll take you to uni it’s not safe for a girl to be out alone.” She chuckled at him. “Yoongi, you live in one of the nicest neighbourhoods in Korea, I think I’ll be fine.” He frowned at her but decided not to push the matter any further.
After dinner, they went to the living room, putting on a movie to watch. Yoongi looked over some paperwork while she organised her things for university. Once she was finished, she curled up on the couch next to Yoongi, who pretended not to be affected by her presence. He could feel the heat from her body down his side. He swallowed thickly, keeping his gaze on his papers. He risked a quick glance at her as she laughed at something that happened in the movie. He couldn’t help but smile at her.
She should be happy like this all of the time. She deserves to be happy. He thought as his gaze lingered on her until he reluctantly pulled his gaze back to the papers in front of him, which could no longer hold his interest. He sighed and stuffed the papers back into their folder and dropped the folder onto the table in front of them. He looked at her again as she laughed, her hand covering , her eyes crinkling at the corners.
For the rest of the movie, Yoongi spent more time looking at her than he did paying attention to the movie. He thought of all the memories he had seen in his dreams. Even with everything he had seen, he knew that there was so much more to her than met the eye. She was resilient, strong, brave, and a million other things as well. His graze dropped to her still bandaged arm, a frown appearing on his face. He couldn’t work out why anyone would want to hurt her.
He promised himself that he would protect her. Not just from her father, but from everything. He was so wrapped up in his thoughts that he hadn’t noticed that the movie had ended. Hyori turned off the TV and turned to Yoongi, startled to see his intense gaze on her. “Yoongi?” she said hesitantly, breaking him out of his thoughts. He shook his head a little and rubbed his eyes. “Sorry, I was spacing out.” He said before yawning loudly. She nodded in understanding. “It’s already pretty late. We should get some sleep, we both need to get up early tomorrow.” She said as she got to her feet, stretching as she did so.
Yoongi stood up beside her and yawned again. “Have a good rest and if you change your mind about wanting a ride, you know what time I leave.” He said as he made his way to his bedroom. She bid him goodnight before heading into her room, closing the door behind her. She crawled into bed, her mind racing. Part of her wanted to take Yoongi up on his offer, but her common sense told her that showing up to university in Yoongi’s flashy car would just attract unnecessary attention.
Yoongi was standing in a familiar room. He called Hyori's name but she didn’t respond. In their dreams, they could only communicate if both of them were sleeping at the same time. He figured that he must have fallen asleep before her. He saw Hyori, not much younger than she was now, sitting at her desk in her bedroom. Sunlight was streaming in from the window, hitting her side and making it look like she was glowing. He moved to sit on her bed, content to just watch her as she worked on something. He was startled when loud banging sounded from her bedroom door. It was a sound he had heard a million times in her memories.
He glared at the door as her father’s slurred, drunken voice sounded through the door, yelling at her to open the door. Hyori reached out for a pair of headphones and slipped them over her ears, turning the volume up to the loudest setting to block out his voice and the noise he was making. Yoongi’s heart ached for the younger girl. He longed to reach out and wrap her in a warm embrace and protect her. The memory began to fade but the image of her crying face, illuminated by the sun was burned into his heart and mind.
The next morning, Hyori groaned loudly as her alarm sounded obnoxiously from her bedside table. She slammed her hand on it, effectively silencing it. She threw off her covers and stretched as she got out of bed, picking up the things she needed for her shower. She yawned loudly as she exited her bedroom and made a beeline for the bathroom.
She opened the door coming face to face with a fully Yoongi who had just stepped out of the shower. There was a moment of silence as they both stared at each other before Hyori let out a scream, dropping her stuff and rushing out of the bathroom, without closing the door behind her. Yoongi cursed loudly and picked up his towel and wrapped it around his waist. “I completely forgot she was going to be up early. I should have remembered to lock the door!” he slammed the door shut, ensuring to lock it, even though he was certain that Hyori would not return to the bathroom anytime soon. He quickly dried off and pulled on his clothes in record time.
He exited the bathroom and went up to her bedroom door. He cleared his throat loudly before knocking twice. “H-hey, that’s me out of the bathroom if you, you know, want to shower.” He said, hating how he was getting tongue tied. “Ok, thanks!” she said, her voice a few octaves higher than normal. She waited until Yoongi’s footsteps had retreated away from her door before she rushed into the bathroom and locked the door behind her.
She let out a sigh, heat burning her cheeks as she thought about what she had just witnessed. She slapped her own cheeks lightly. “Yah. What are you thinking about? Stop being a ert.” She mumbled to herself as she checked the door one more time, ensuring it was locked before stripping off her clothes and entering the shower.
After she finished showering she rushed back to her bedroom to finish getting ready. Yoongi made sure to stay out of her way, not sure what to say to her after what had happened. When she finally emerged, it was time for them both to leave. As they left the apartment, Hyori finally spoke. “I’m sorry. I should have paid more attention. I mean to the door. I should have knocked.” She said as they waited on the elevator to arrive. He waved off her apology, hoping to get rid of the awkward atmosphere. “It’s ok. I should have locked the door. Too used to living alone I guess.” He said with an awkward chuckle. She smiled up at him as the elevator arrived.
He held the door open for her and let her get in first. They stood next to each other as the elevator went down picking up more and more people as it went. When they reached the fifth floor, a family got onto the already crowded elevator, forcing the two of them into the corner of the elevator. Hyori could feel the cold bite of the metal on her back and the warm heat of Yoongi’s body on her front as he was pushed up against her. She fidgeted awkwardly as he gave her an apologetic smile.
She could smell his cologne and the spicy scent of his shower gel as he shifted his weight, his hip bumping against hers. By the time they arrived at the first floor her nerves were frazzled. When he moved away, she found herself missing the warmth of his body against hers. What the hell am I thinking?! She thought to herself as she followed him out of the building. “Do you want a ride?” he offered. She shook her head, “I’m ok. I think the walk will do me good.” She said as she flashed him a smile and waved goodbye.
She let out a sigh as she started walking towards the bus stop. What a morning! First off, I run into Yoongi completely in the bathroom then we end up practically squished together in the elevator! Plus I had that stupid memory dream about him working out. This is not my day. She thought as she walked towards the bus stop, hoping that by the time the day ended, and she would need to see Yoongi again, the weird feeling in her stomach and chest would be long gone.
