Chapter 20: Imminence
Forbidden LoveGet me out of here.
Get me out of here.
Get me out of here.
Hyejeong repeated this phrase, not unlike a mantra, in her mind repeatedly as their car pulled up at a restaurant.
“Do we really have to meet them?” Hyejeong whined, as she and Seolhyun got out of the car, one decidedly more excited than the other.
“Of course we have to!” Seolhyun replied, ignoring the unwillingness in Hyejeong’s voice and demeanour. “We agreed to have lunch with them, and then go to the amusement park later, right?”
“Sure we did,” Hyejeong grumbled in a low voice, walking stiffly (in fear) behind Seolhyun. Those creeps! How on earth did they have Seolhyun as a friend?
“Hey,” Seolhyun stopped and turned around, her voice dropping to a caring whisper. “You sound like you don’t want to meet them or something.”
Yeah, no .
“Maybe,” Hyejeong replied flippantly, as she marched on ahead into the restaurant on her own, leaving Seolhyun behind, confused.
Yuna and Mina were late. They had agreed to meet at twelve exactly, but it was already half past and there was no sign of them at all, and it was three quarters past before the hastily slid into the booth opposite them, hair dishevelled, and makeup slightly slipping on Mina’s face.
“Hey,” they chorused in unison, trying their best to conceal the fact that they were in just slightly too compromising a state.
“Whatever happened to your hair?” Seolhyun teased, grinning, as both Mina and Yuna simultaneously started smoothing their sweat-drenched, messy locks.
“We were…cleaning,” Yuna replied feebly, earning a vicious smack from the cute girl seated beside her.
“Come up with something better, you dimwit!” Mina hissed violently, glaring daggers at Yuna.
“Why did you keep silent then, smartass?” Yuna bit back, annoyed.
“Cleaning each other up, eh?” Hyejeong went in for the kill, high-fiving Seolhyun, as both of them started chortling.
Only to be immediately shut up by a savage Kwon Mina. “My my, you must be really experienced in cleaning Seolhyun here up, eh, Hyejeong unnie? You took home a complete stranger from the bar and cleaned her up real well, unnie.”
“I told you they’re scary,” Hyejeong whispered into Seolhyun’s shoulder, as she watched a Yuna who was watching them intently (read: creepily), and a Mina who was chomping down the last remainder of her meal. “How do they eat so fast? And why does Yuna stare at us like that?”
“How’s that creepy, Hyejeong?” Seolhyun replied, daintily working her way through her own meal. Both her and Hyejeong weren’t even half done, which puts Yuna and Mina’s speed into perspective. “They’re just hungry, that’s all. Especially considering all the ing—HEY!” Seolhyun explained, before was clamped shut by Yuna’s invading hand.
“She means that we always have a big appetite, that’s all,” Yuna explained sweetly, her eyes glaring daggers at Seolhyun. “We are perfectly respectable people that definitely don’t engage in ual before having our first official meeting with our best friend’s girlfriend, eh, Seolhyun?”
“Of…of course, Yuna,” Seolhyun replied, turning her focus back to her food.
“What do you see in our little Seolhyun over here?” Mina asked patronisingly, as they walked along the street. They had just left the diner where they had had lunch, and were now making their way over to the amusement park. “Considering that she is ugly, has a selfish personality, and is a jerk to her friends all the time?”
Seolhyun stopped and smacked Mina viciously on the back, to which Mina actually reeled forward a few steps, staggering. “Owww,” Mina replied, hurt, “You could use a little less force next time, maybe?”
“I like Seolhyun here, not because she’s special, because she’s beautiful, or because she’s smart,” Hyejeong philosophically answered. “I don’t know why I like Seolhyun as much as I do, but I do. Simply put, she makes me feels things that I have never felt before, she gives me experiences I’ve never experienced before, and she loves me like I’ve never been loved before.”
Mina put her hands to her neck and strangled herself, faking choking due to how cheesy Hyejeong’s answer/confession was.
Yuna started attacking Mina, annoyed that Mina’s confession to her wasn’t half as sweet. (In fact, come to think of it, did they ever confess to each other? No. They probably got together after ing each other or something like that.)
And Seolhyun looked pissed as Hyejeong just insinuated that she was neither special, beautiful nor intelligent.
They were fully-grown teenagers/adults, and they were playing bumper cars like absolute children, taking every chance to knock the living daylights out of each other.
As Seolhyun and Hyejeong were preparing a vicious attack on Yunaring’s car, they heard a cackle coming from their target, followed by a teasing yell from the other side.
“Hey Hyejeong! Since you love your girlfriend so much, you won’t have a problem with some of her habits, right?” Mina yelled, a devious grin forming on her face, Seolhyun growing paler by the second.
“Ignore them,” Seolhyun responded quietly, to which Hyejeong completely ignored.
“Bring it on!” Hyejeong yelled back in response.
“Did you know that Hyejeong is a messy freak? She spills stuff everywhere,
