Chapter Twenty Four
Sprightly, the butterfly fluttered its wings as it hovered above the beautiful flower. Softly, it landed itself upon the soft pads of the fragrant blossom and so nature commences its wonders of procreation.
“Pollination.” Said Yuju, as she laid upon the soft grass of the field. “Just in case you’re wondering.”
A soft breeze followed, disrupting the graceful insect making it flutter next to the flower nearby. “It’s just amazing seeing it in action.” Answered Jungkook, as he curiously observed the wonders of nature with his huge doe eyes.
“That’s how the flowers bloom.” Answered she, “even though it’s a simple and seemingly harmless act, it preserves the entire earth. Ultimately, the soft flapping of that lone butterfly’s wings keeps the world in balance, sustaining life.”
“Is that what they call the butterfly effect?” the boy rolled over, trapping the younger girl underneath his larger frame but careful not to place too much weight on her body. He had his arms squarely beside her face, supporting his weight, while his face lingers inches from her and their noses delicately touching.
She looked up to find him sporting his usual boyish grin. It would always be little, just at the corner of his lips, but its influence would mostly be massive, at least for her. She pursed her lips before answering, “It depends. A handful of meaning had accumulated since the term was coiled, and more likely than not, in a metaphorical sense, one could use the term however it likes. I guess this one could be considered as such.”
“Hmm,” he hummed, arranging her fringe lithely through his fingers. “Think about it, if I interfere with this one butterfly, nature could not proceed at its own normal pace. No matter how little, the change I made would cause a lot. Who knows, one simple action could cause extinction.”
“Oh, we’re getting better up here, Jeon.” She cooed, pointing towards his forehead.
He grinned once more. “Only because I have the best teacher.”
“But doesn’t it scare you?” she muttered as another breeze blew, scattering the fragrance of the grass and flowers, “That every little decision we make could accumulate to something big in the future, worse something terrible.”
“It does.” He answered with an equally soft voice, almost a whisper, “but I’d rather do it and regret later, than not do it and still have regrets.”
She smiled hearing his brave words. What a strong man he has become, far from the timid and silent boy he was back when they were younger, when they were still free.
He had sensed the sudden blueness in her eyes and figured she must be thinking of their current grim state. But the sun was shining brightly amidst the fluffy clouds and blue sky, the flowers were blooming and they were surrounded by the beautiful creations of God, he may be scared but he would not regret any second spent with her.
“Come on, Yuju,” he said as he hoisted both of them up, “we told Yeona we’d be strolling around and not rolling down hills and grass.”
They both chuckled, agreeing. As they went on their feet the butterfly from before found itself landed on the young man’s shoulders, although suspended, its wings were still flapping softly from time to time. Curiously, Yuju extended her forefinger towards it, soon after the gentle creature hopped onto her hand, making her eyes blink in surprise.
“Cool.” He remarked as he held her free hand. “And its…”
“Blue.” She finished. “I never noticed but it’s so beautiful.”
“It suits you.” Said he, “I mean its color screams … you.”
She giggled softly, “You mean I’m always blue?”
“On the contrary, I think you’re always so cheerful, but even so, gentle, quiet, beautiful, unique, like this kin
