Perfect plan gone wrong

Scary Noona

Before you could even get a reaction, the door was slammed in your face. What the hell? Not the kind of reaction I was expecting.

“Hyung! The scary noona is here! Hyung!!!” Chan not so subtlety screeched from the other side. What did this kid just call me?

“Yah! Open this door right now you brat!” You banged onto the door, proving to them just how much the nickname fit. “Yah!” your fist ready to bang on the door again when it flew open, a group of boys standing there. Looks of fear, amusement and excitement etched on their faces. Except for one.

“Seol noona?” you heard the familiar voice ask amongst the group, a hint of disbelief in its tone. When you saw him shove his way past the other curious boys and walk towards the door, you couldn’t help but smile. He was small but scary. Just like you.

“Surprise!” you exclaimed, arms wide open for a hug. You were about to step in when he moved fast and stepped out instead, closing the door behind him. You didn’t miss the disappointed looks of the boys’ faces, clearly wanting to watch this scene unfold in front of them. When he turned around to face you, you were surprised to see the look he was giving you. He wasn’t pleased at all.

“What are you doing here, noona?” Jihoon grunted, a hard look on his face. He caught sight of the luggage that was placed behind you and sighed. “You ran away again? Don’t tell me you expect to stay here.” You were caught off guard by his cold tone. You understood why he was acting this way. You deserved it.

“Look, I know I haven’t talked to you in-“

“A year?” he interrupts, scoffing. “I’m waiting.” Who is the older one here? This kid, seriously. Making me feel small and stupid in his presence.

“I was about to before you interrupted.” He rolled his eyes.

“I’m sorry, okay? I’m a terrible person. I thought about it the entire train ride here. I just thought it would be better for you. You’re all the way here in Seoul and it felt like the right thing to do. To leave you out of things, leave you out of my problems. I know how hard you’re working here. I know how bad you want this. I had your best interests at heart believe me. I mean I am your noona after all, right? Even though you’re making me feel more like the younger one right now with that scary look on your face.” He laughed, his face brightening up just a tiny amount.

“I’m really sorry, Jihoonie. Please forgive me.” You held up your hands in prayer, anticipating his response. When he just stood there staring, you had no choice but to get down on your knees and beg for forgiveness. Alarmed at what you were doing, Jihoon grabbed your arm and stopped you before your knees could hit the ground.

“As much as I’d love to be the first person you’ve ever kneeled down to, I don’t think that’s necessary. You’re making me feel awkward.” He states, now with a full on smile.

“How do you think I feel?” you smile back, “and don’t be rude. I have kneeled before. I’m not that bad of a person,” you shoved his shoulder playfully, “except those kids clearly think otherwise. Scary noona? Seriously? Who came up with that?” you scoffed, rolling your eyes.

“Are they really wrong though?” he teases.

You don’t answer. They’re not wrong.

“Noona, I don’t think this is a good idea.” Jihoon’s tone is now serious; any hint of teasing has completely vanished. You freeze. It’s late and you have nowhere else to go in the city.

“I mean, obviously you can stay the night. It’s late and I wouldn’t let you go anyway. But I know you. You don’t just runaway for one night. If I lived alone, it’d be different. You’d be more than welcome to stay. But you do realize that I live with 12 other guys or did you forget?”

“Of course I didn’t forget. I just didn’t really think about it?” you gave a sheepish smile, wanting to just die at how dumb you were. So much for the perfect plan.

“There’s barely any room to fit 13 of us. And you’re a girl, do I really need to explain why that’s already a problem in itself?” he questioned, his tone soft to ease the blow.

You stood there, not really sure what to even say at this point. Feeling quite stupid at how this all turned out in the end.

“What are they saying? I can’t hear!” you heard a voice whisper from the other side of the door. You rolled your eyes. They live here and they weren't aware of how thin the walls were?

“Does that mean a girl is going to live with us?” A voice asked excitedly.

“Shut up! How am I supposed to hear when you’re all being loud?!” Another voice hissed.

“Yah!” you and Jihoon yelled at the same time, banging on the door.

“They heard us!!” you heard a voice say before the sound of feet shuffling away from the door could be heard. Jihoon shook his head in annoyance. Before you could add on to this conversation, the door was pulled open.

“Hi noona. Good to see you,” you smiled and waved, “why don’t you two finish this conversation inside? It’s getting late and I’m sure noona is tired from her trip here.” Seungcheol looked towards Jihoon, opening the door wider to let the both of you in. Still the same mature and responsible Seungcheol you remembered.

“There’s a reason I had this conversation out here.” Jihoon grumbles, stalking inside and glaring at the eavesdroppers who sat around the room in nonchalance, acting as if they weren’t just listening in on their private conversation.

Seungcheol grabs your luggage and smiles at you, closing the door behind him. “Thank you,” you hug him, happy to see him.

You were more than thankful when you realized that Seungcheol might just let you stay with them for more than a night. He was the oldest, the leader and most decisions ended with his say in things. It also helped that he had a weak spot for you. Most of them did which is why you thought it was the perfect plan coming here. Ignoring the fact that your nickname around here was ‘scary noona’. That could’ve just been Chan, who you don’t remember talking with as much when you were last here. There was a 6-year between you two after all. You thought now might be the perfect time to change that. To get close to the kid and make him realize you’re not that scary. Jihoon once said these boys were like family to him. If they’re family to him, that means they’re family to you too.

You walked towards the boys all sitting around in the living room, awkwardly standing there, smiling. They all looked towards Jihoon, expecting something. When Jihoon waved his hand with a grunt, they all jumped up towards you, hugging you. You couldn’t help but laugh. Not by the hugs or the excitement on their faces but the power Jihoon had over them.

“Noona! I was beginning to think you forgot about us.” Seokmin pouted.

“Yeah, why did it take you so long to visit, huh?” Jisoo poked you, trying to be intimidating but failing. You swatted his hand away with a laugh.

“I can’t believe you’re here!” Mingyu shook you by the shoulders.

You couldn’t get a word in at all. You were being crushed to death by one of Soonyoung’s hugs when Jihoon broke it up, telling everyone to get lost so they could finish discussing things.

“Jihoon, I think everyone should be part of this conversation. I mean if noona is staying with us for a little while, we should at least have everyone here to know what’s going on. If that’s okay with you?” Seungcheol asked, looking in your direction.

“You’re right. It’s your dorm, I have no say in this.” The boys excitedly walked back into the living room and sat down, probably more than relieved to not have to eavesdrop again. You took a seat next to Chan who inched away from you. You rolled your eyes. He was the only one who didn’t come up to greet you.

You raise a hand, “question, why is this one so scared of me? What did you tell him?” you accused, pointing to Chan who squeaks and turns red, as you glare at everyone else in the room. When you take a proper look you realize not everyone is here. How could I have not noticed?

Some of them have their hands up in surrender, the others shaking their heads. You look to Jihoon who is clearly amused by Chan. “I may have told them some stories about you from when we were back in Busan,” he shrugs.

Your eyes widen, “do you want to die?” You spat at Jihoon, throwing a pillow at him. Chan flinched next to you.

“Wait, I’m sorry,” you turn towards Chan, “I’m not actually going to hurt him. Look kid, that was the old me. I’m not like that anymore, okay? There's nothing to be af Just think of me as your noona from now on.” You smile at Chan, your voice soft as you reassure him.

“T-that’s not all,” Chan stutters in a hushed tone, slowly turning his head in your direction before looking back down quickly.

You don’t answer, confused. You don’t seem to be the only one as everyone is watching him curiously, waiting for him to continue.

“I-it's what went down in the s-stories th-“

“We’re back!” Chan is interrupted by the two members that were missing. “Whoa, what’s up with the tense atmosphere? You guys are acting weird," he pauses when he takes notice of you, "wait. Seol noona? Is that you?” Seungkwan shrieks, running towards you before crushing you in a hug. You were disappointed in yourself for not even noticing Seungkwan was missing. How could you not notice?

Seungkwan wasn’t the only one missing, however. There was still… “What is she doing here?” a voice hissed behind them. You removed yourself from Seungkwan’s embrace and turned towards the voice.

“Oh no, here we go…” Jisoo muttered to Seungcheol. Seungcheol looked to Jihoon who just sighed.

You looked up to see ‘pretty’ as you liked to call him standing there, a hard look on his face. His hair was longer and straighter since the last time you saw him. You scoffed. I’m not surprised at all that I didn’t notice you were missing though.

“Nice to see you too, Jeonghan.” You said sarcastically, challenging him with a smile.

He’s about to challenge back when he takes notice of your luggage. His eyes widen, “do not tell me that she’s staying here.” Jeonghan looks to Jihoon and Seungcheol for confirmation.

“That’s right.” You answer for them in a singsong voice, raising your eyebrows at him.

“Well we were about to discuss that right now, so if you’d sit down and join us, we could start.” Seungcheol advised, gesturing towards the empty seat next to Jun.

“What’s there to discuss? My answer is no.” He sneered, walking towards his room and slamming the door.  Everyone sits there in awkward silence. You can’t help but smirk.

“First, let’s start with you telling us why you two hate each other so much.” Jihoon breaks the silence, looking at you expectantly. The others nod in agreement.

You sigh. This was going to be a long night.
