Her Presence

(inspired by Let’s fight ghost tv drama)

“Yah! I told you not to bother me! One more, and I’ll kick you out!”, Xiumin yelled at a ghost, taking a pause in reading his book.

The ghost was shocked and vanished.

Xiumin is someone who possesses a gift uncommon to others.

He has a third eye.

He’s using his gift to earn money as a ghost buster—also a college student studying in Seoul University.

From: unknown number

I need your help. I’ll give you $10 000 dollars if you busted this bad ghost at my school, Seoul university.

‘$10 000 dollars… Not bad.’

To: uknown number

Arraseo. I’ll be going there now.

Time check: 10:00 pm

At the middle of the night, Xiumin packed his things.

He changed his clothes and put his back pack in his shoulders.

At the school…

The hallway is dark. He is wary but he is not scared. He is used to those kind of scenarios.

A few moments later, he saw a girl with long blonde hair and she is wearing a high school uniform

‘She must be the ghost’, Xiumin thought.

“Hayah!!!!!!”, Xiumin kicked the back of the girl.

“Ahhh! Appeo! (it hurts!)”, Hyoyeon, the ghost exclaimed.

She looked at Xiumin and was about to kick her again. Her eyes enlarged and she screamed.

“You must be the ghost I need to fight with!”, Xiumin said as he is about to kick.

“Wait! No, I’m not! It’s at your back!”, Hyoyeon signaled Xiumin to look at his back.

He saw a ghost with black smoke in it, meaning it is a bad ghost.

He was attacked by the ghost and he sprawled on the floor.

“You evil!”, Hyoyeon stood up and gave the bad ghost a glare before kicking it.

Xiumin and Hyoyeon fought the bad ghost and it disappeared.

That is how they met. Now, Hyoyeon always follows Xiumin even in his class.

Months later and they fell in love with each other.

They are watching a movie and then there’s this part where the actors kissed.

“Yah! That’s my first kiss you jerk!”, Hyoyeon yelled.

“Mehrong! ( an expression of teasing)”, Xiumin said sticking his tongue out.

Xiumin kissed Hyoyeon and he laughed.

It’s always like this. Happy, fun, and exciting experience together.

Hyoyeon would often help Xiumin in fighting ghosts.

Little did they know, Xiumin’s father is watching them. He doesn’t have a third eye so all he can see is Xiumin talking and laughing by himself.

“Xiumin ah!”, his father rushed through the door.

“Father!”, Xiumin said.

“Who are you talking with?”, his father asked sternly.

“Who?”, Xiumin asked.

“I said who are you talking with? Is it a ghost? The girl ghost you met?”, his father asked.

Xiumin didn’t answer.

“Have you been living with the ghost?”, his father asked.

“What do we do?”, Hyoyeon whispered.

“It’s none of you business, father.”, Xiumin said.

“What are you talking about?! Are you dating a ghost?!”. His father asked.

“It’s none of your business.”, Xiumin said.

“ Your mother died because of a ghost! Let’s get your eyes treated. I’ll find a way.”, his father said.

“I don’t want to!”, Xiumin said.

“You must…like this ghost a lot”, his father said.

Hyoyeon is fidgeting her fingers. Tears started to flow down her face.

“That’s right”, Xiumiin affirmed while holding Hyoyeon’s hands.

“Mind your own business.”, Xiumin continued.

“How dare you….All right. I won’t meddle in your life”, his father said as he turn his back and go away angrily.

“Hyoeyon ah! Hyoeyon ah!”, Xiumin is looking all over the house and soon he went out to look for her. She is missing and Xiumin has this feeling that Hyoyeon is hiding from him.

She was hurt by the words of Xiumin’s father.

At the amusement park…

“Hyoyeon!”, Xiumin found Hyoyeon sitting in the Ferris wheel.

“Xiumin ah.”, Hyoyeon said as she hurriedly stood up and disappeared.

“Hyoeyon ah.”, Xiumin found her again, this time, holding her arms to prevent her from running.

“Let go of me.”, Hyoyeon shrugged his hands off.

“O di ga? (Where are you going?) I’ve been looking for you everywhere.”, Xiumin held Hyoyeon again.

“Let go of me!”, Hyoyeon forcibly took Xiumin’s hands off her.

“Is it because of my father?”, Xiumin asked.

Hyoyeon looks at him.

“I told you not to care about what he said.”, Xiumin said.

Hyoeyon is still looking at him.

“Let’s go home.”, Xiumin said as he gets Hyoyeon’s hands and about to go.

“Let go of me!”, Hyoyeon once again shrugged Xiumin’s hands.

“I’m not leaving because of your father. I was going to leave anyway.”, she said, tears are starting to form in her eyes. She lied.

“Mau? (What?)Why?”, he asked.

“Don’t you know why? Don’t you think it will work out for us?”, she asked. Tears started to flow on her face.

“I said I don’t care.”, he said angrily.

“I do.”, Hyoyeon said, “ I decided to stay with you because I wanted to ascend. I forgot about that for a while. We live in different worlds.”

“Doesn’t… the time we spent together…meant anything to you? Can you leave it behind easily?”, Xiumin asked as his tears fell down his face.

“Do you think a ghost can live happily among humans? You’re the only one who can see me in this whole world. I don’t want to live a lonely life just to be with you. What I want is to find my memories and ascend. It only makes me lonely… to be with you.”, Hyoyeon said, still crying.

“Do you.. mean that?”, he asked with a shaky voice.

“Yes. I do.”, she said sternly.

“You’re not happy with me?”, Xiumin asked while his voice broke.

“No.”, she said.

“Fine. I get it.”, Xiumin said as he turn his back and go away.

Hyoyeon looked at Xiumin’s back longingly, crying.

At a hospital, Hyoyeon saw her mother. And she found out she is still alive, bed ridden and comatose-d.

At the same time Xiumin was in the hospital for a checkup of his colds.

“Xiumin ah!”, Hyoyeon called crying.

“Hyoyeon ah.”, Xiumin said, a bit shocked.

Hyoyeon ran and hugged Xiumin.

“I’m sorry. I’m Sorry. Sorry Xiumin ah.”, Hyoyeon cried.

Xiumin also cired.

“I’m still alive. I’m just comatose-d”, Hyoyeon said.

“Sincha? (Really?)”, Xiumin hugged Hyoyeon again.

“It’s a relief.”, Xiumin continued.

After that, Hyoyeon disappeared. Xiumin can’t believe it. He cried and cried because he thought Hyoyeon will be gone forever. But he found the room of Hyoyeon and saw her alive, skin-to-skin.
