Chapter 3

Changhyun furrowed his brows and sent me a hesitant look. He bit his lower lips while his eyes trembled.  

“You risked your life to save mine. I don’t know why I’m so hesitant,” he showed a helpless smile and lightly slapped his own cheeks with both of his hands. 

“This too must have been fate,” Changhyun said and closed his eyes. He put his right hand over my forehead blessing me with a comforting warm light. 

‘I’ll be fine,’ I wanted to say. I’ve been taking poisons since I was young, so I was immune to pretty much most poisons, but my voice wouldn’t come out. I became confused for a second because Changhyun was busy trying to heal me, he couldn’t use a paralysis curse AND heal me at the same time. Then, it hit me like a lead hammer.
 
Changhyun never used paralysis on me in the first place. This poison is potent and spread faster than I could ever imagine. 

A sharp pain shot in my chest and an eerie feeling of death washed over my whole body. The sheering pain choked my lungs and heart. For a second, I hoped I could just die. 

‘Listen to me and agree to form a contract with me. You will become my shadow until death and your purpose in life will be to serve no one else but the God of Light.’  

Changhyun’s words appeared in my mind.

‘You’re going to die of toxic poison if you don’t agree within the next few seconds! Hurry!’ Changhyun pleaded. 

I did my best to reply an ‘ok’ but I could feel my body wash over with bitter cold darkness. I couldn’t respond, but he somehow understood me. At least it’s what I interpreted from his gentle smile that eased my heart in a strange way.

As a soft light showered my whole body and the heavy weight inside my chest and body gradually lifted. My breath relaxed and I could feel and move my limbs once again.

“The poison was circulating too fast, this was the only method I could use to save your life.” Changhyun sighed relieved.
