Chasing YouChasing You

“I really thought she was obsessed with you,” she laughed. “I must’ve been wrong.”
Sehun raised an eyebrow as he gave Ji Hye a puzzled look, which Ji Hye noticed almost immediately. Ji Hye had a grin on her face that soon faded away when she realized that Sehun didn’t know what she was talking about. She tensed as soon as Sehun turned to face her, seemingly looking interested in what she suddenly brought up.
Ji Hye coughed, “Huh? Did I say something?” she asked innocently, looking around as if she didn’t know that it was her he was staring at.
“You mentioned Ah Reum,” he started. “What about her?”
“I didn’t say anything about her,” she lied, hoping that Sehun would forget about what she said. He stayed quiet, but he knew something was up. It was also unusual how Ji Hye was not being the loud mouth that she usually was whenever they spoke. “What’s she like, though?”
Ji Hye’s sudden interest in Ah Reum made Sehun gag. Mocking her was one thing, but asking about her was crossing the line. Last time he checked, Ji Hye did nothing but make fun of Ah Reum for being the type of person that everyone described her as. While Ji Hye was right, she was also wrong. Numerous people talked about Ah Reum whenever he was around. However, most of them were incorrect because their narration of her made it seem like she was some obsessive fangirl, which she obviously is not.
Sehun shrugged. “Well, you know… she’s just like any other girl out there,” he explained. “But unlike the others, she’s far too persistent and always argues with people just to get what she wants. She’s a glutton, but she never gets fat. It gets annoying when she tells me that she’s gotten fat when she’s as beautiful as ever…” He paused when he realized that he started complimenting her unconsciously.
Ji Hye’s eyes stared at him in awe. She, too, realizing what his mistake was. Luckily, she did not record that, or else Sehun would no longer confide in her.
“You know–when you talk about her like that, it’d be really hard to believe that you don’t love her,” she said.
Sehun kept quiet and started thinking about what Ji Hye said. He wasn’t aware that Ji Hye was actually listening the whole time. He thought that Ji Hye would’ve dozed off or started texting her boyfriend because she never listened to him unless it was related to his exhibit. That was natural, though, since that is her job and she’s getting paid for it. Sehun wouldn’t dare pay her anything even if she listened to him. He has Ah Reum by his side anyway.
“She might leave soon,” Ji Hye suddenly said. It was weird because he was thinking that as well. Especially since Yixing would be there for her if Da Eun accepted his confession.
“I know that she won’t,” he concluded, to both himself and to Ji Hye who didn’t seem convinced. She didn’t say anything after that because she knew that Sehun would figure out sooner or later. After all, news did travel fast, especially since it was their school’s most popular story.
Ji Hye sighed as she stood up and started walking away, completely forgetting about what she needed to discuss with him. “Hey, Sehun,” she called out. “Just remember– regret is a bad feeling.”
Sehun rolled his eyes in response. Why was everyone suddenly saying that?
He groaned, remembering that his mother was in the hospital and he needed to talk to someone really badly. The problem was, he didn’t know where Ah Reum was and neither did he know where to find Da Eun.
After minutes of arguing with himself, he decided to head home for today and hopefully, Ah Reum would show up by his doorsteps and talk to him about his problems without him even having to tell her everything.
As Sehun headed toward the gate, he spotted two familiar faces that were playing around on the fountain. The two looked like they were having fun and Sehun couldn’t help but stare at them longer than he was supposed to. The two idiots were running around and trying to avoid getting much more drenched than they currently were.
He felt like a stalker. Despite being the one to call his best friend that same exact word. He felt his blood boiling when he caught her in his arms. Sehun didn’t like the sight of his two friends being so friendly with one another; it was really suffocating.
The truth is, he didn’t know which was more suffocating–watching his best friend smile like that–or–the fact that he was not the person who made her smile so beautifully like that. Instead, it was Yixing.
Sehun thought that Yixing was just joking when he asked him if it was alright for him to date Ah Reum. By the looks of it, it didn’t seem like Yixing was joking. And Sehun now knew that. As much as he wants Ah Reum to be happy with someone other than him, he just didn’t like the idea of Yixing being the one to make her smile the way he never could.
He sighed as he finally turned around and walked away from the scene that would soon cause him to worry throughout the class period. Sehun stopped walking when he saw Da Eun looking at him angrily.
“Geez, Sehun. I’ve been waiting for you for an hour,” he heard her loud and clear, but his mind just wouldn’t process it. The idea of Ah Reum and Yixing t
