People need to stop sleeping on BTS!
In case of misunderstanding, which there's a lot here, I made an updated post about my point without adding all the extra stuff that provoked emotion from anyone. It's way more positive so I don;t expect too many people to comment though. But the gray areas are cleaned up.

I swear people be SLEEPING on BTS. BTS has millions of views on Youtube. Their albums are ranked #1 on Global music charts. The members in the group are REAL artists who create their own music. But it seems like Bangtan Boys get very little recognition.
I've followed BTS loosely since they first came out. I remember watching No More Dreams only months after they debuted. I didn't become a fan until Boy in Luv. Back in 2013 & 2014 they weren't that popular. People were sleeping hard on them. It has gotten significantly better but not to the degree it should be.They are gaining recognition overseas. However, I often wonder why it seems like everyone around me are at least distant BTS fan yet they were rarely on variety shows and haven't won music shows in Korea.
BTS and their management go out their way and make extravagant videos like Blood, Sweat, and Tears. The video racked up almost 200 million views in less than a year, and has won several awards outside of Korea, the Billboard Music Award included. Yet... they haven't won a music show award? (correct me if I'm wrong)
So what's the issue here? Is BTS's fame only exclusive to the international audience? If so, why is that?
I ask these questions to be rhetorical, of course. As a fan of Kpop for over 5 years, I already know the answer. It's simple. IMAGE. Let's face it. BTS has a gritty image. Not in a bad way, but in a different way. An image similar to a new wave Big Bang. Of course they don't compare, but the point is the same. BTS is not a flower boy group. They aren't traditionally attractive to the Korean audience. Their style, music, and dancing are different than most groups. Their music doesn't follow the typical Kpop sound. They are more hiphop. Their rappers are real artists and not idol rappers. RM and Suga can spit some mad bars that are handwritten and meaningful. BTS is a breath of fresh air in the Kpop world but they are being ignored.
Although I don't think any group as a whole is overrated, I think BTS is definitely under-recognized. But BTS keep doing what you are ing doing. I will still support them and I hope the international fans can keep them afloat until Korean fans give them the respect they deserve. Their music is dope. They are blending Khiphop with Kpop dancing and influences and I love it. I also think that BTS truly respects and appreciates Hiphop and Black culture. (unlike other groups that borrow concepts and don't even give credit. cough SM Entertainment cough)
I feel like BTS is slowly rising up my bias list. I'm even tempted to put them at number #3. And my number #1 and #2 are SHINee and Big Bang so this is a big deal for me. I don't necessarily want them to become more famous. I just want them to get the praise they deserve. Just keep making music and doing what you love, BTS! :)
Fighting!! <3
