Description
Kim Jongin was etched into my skin that fateful day, when I was too young to even understand what a soul mate truly meant. That was where it all started, I guess. The day that I got my soul mate, I lost my best friend.
Soulmate!au - based on the whole idea of tattooed soulmate names (not an original idea by any means) that is best explained by these excerpts:
"Before the age of twenty one, everyone is branded with the Script, the name of their soul mate, tattooed somewhere on their body. For every person in the world, there is just one other who is their perfect match, their other half. Most people find their soul mate eventually and spend much of their young adult lives searching."
"Not all soul mates end up together. There was no law saying they had to. In some cases, couples fall in love before meeting their soul mates, and decide to stay with each other and stop searching. Some soul mates are separated by an early death or other circumstances. A soul mate is one’s best chance at true love, but just because that doesn’t work out, it doesn’t have to be the end."
Foreword
So, I had originally planned for this to be more futuristic!au, with like advanced technologies and all that but...
Well basically, I wrote like 5000 words like that, and then I read it and realized that it was and backspaced all of it. The problem with writing dystopia!au and futuristic!au that isn't based on an already existing au is that you have to do a lot of world building to make it good. I think I was trying to do too much and it just didn't come off feeling like a realistic au so I scrapped it.
The result....this fic is set in Korea. I never really mention the year, but it's present day Korea with a twist. The soul mate thing is kind of just seen as the norm and not really questioned. Also, I have changed their school system to one based off the Chinese Gaokao system.
This story will feature all the EXO members, including some ex-members. And as you can tell from the description, this fic is romance, slice of life - ish, with fluff and angst.
