The Cliff Anonymous (An Author's Mean Confession)

Where Authornim At

A lot of authors, popular and unpopular ones, are deactivating their accounts nowadays. It may be bcoz of personal issues. It can also be about issues within the site itself. Sites like AFF should be an enjoyable place for writers as much as for the readers. Writers claim that they write for themselves but it can't be denied that reader appreciation such as comments, upvotes & subscription make writers happy. But at that critical level where writers feel they aren't appreciated enough, or being disrespected like being plagiarized or bashed, they deactivate because it'll get more depressing the more they stay in this site.

So now, I'd just like to call out certain (not all) readers who are complaining or ranting in the blog or discussion section about their fave authornims deactivating. I did know an author who deactivated and she now has some of her "silent readers" looking for her. I want to ask the silent readers why they are the first ones to rant when they haven't even given a single word of gratitude or a simple comment to show their appreciation when the author and story are still active (one reason that author deactivated is bcoz she isnt getting enough appreciation. Her fic barely gets comments but has many-enough subscribers.). Why are they the 1st to complain when they'd rather read in secrecy than subscribe to let the author know theyre reading his/her fic? This is not commonly and honestly pointed out in sites like aff that author-reader relationship is somewhat give and take. A simple act of appreciation goes a long way.

So stop whining and appreciate the author and fics in ways you know how while they still last. Respect (by not plagiarizing and the like) while they still last.

For the deactivated ones, well I just hope thay have sns accounts. Bcoz no way in hell will they reply to you now that they deactivated on aff. Besides why on earth would they reply to a lurker who claims to be a reader when they haven't seen you send them even a small heart icon or smiley to appreciate all that time and effort spent on producing one update? Because tbh we don't simply poop out updates and voila there you read it.

Chapter 8: hey! i know it's a bit late since i've already begun writing it, but i was wondering if i could use this story (but specifically this chapter) as inspiration for a short poem i'm writing? it would mean a lot to me, and i won't post it until i get your permission.
thank you in advance!

Chapter 18: thank you for writing this, do you have any medicine to heal the hurt everytime reader unsubscribe? I'm new writer, I feel like trash sometimes, the only things that keep me writing is the new subscribers and readers comments and upvote, how i wish that i don't know who unsubscribe, but sometimes i know.....I guess One man's trash is another man's treasure :(

Chapter 6: I partially agree with this. Yes, advertising gets you some time at the spotlight and more people will have a chance to see and read your story and along with that - subscribe...

But advertising doesn't automatically mean 1000+ subscribers and a gold star.

Chapter 13: oh my god, I'm starting to like this 'rant fanfic/blog' thingy. I practically ing some of authors and readers shamelessly bcus of the same reasons.

I actually think fanfic also supposed to "it's not about being read. It's about being written" thingy. I mean I write stories in my blog without promoting it, only some of my friends who really want to read it. There's no comments or anything, no pressure at all. Because my aim to write is not for anyone, is just myself. Sometimes it's just phathetic for some of authors who go to far with their storyline, changing OC characters or storyline for entertaining some of naggy readers.

Chapter 9: oh my god this reminds me of authors who try so hard not to make their character a mary sue it goes full circle and becomes a mary sue, but it's actually worse because the oc's so "depressed" and "misunderstood" and fights a lot but only to protect her little sister like jesus i'd just rather have a regular mary sue

Chapter 10: Ok. Hahaha. I was determined to read all rants before commenting, but man Im itching to voice out this rant too. There's this author who isnt featured but had hosted a contest in which she garnered huge subscription base. And man, she really thought she's sooo popular that she posted a name for her "fan" base. And I was like, witch please. You have many subs coz theyre interested in the contest. Oof! It's good to ventilate. haha.
