Canadian sidekick!

Living With Famous Idiots! -edited-

After hours of being lost and wondering around Seoul, I’m now completely scared to death right now. I mean, I’ve barely been in Seoul for a month, and I’ve managed to get lost! Wonderful Alex, I really applaud you. I mean, why couldn’t you help out Leeteuk? He would’ve brought you home!

Idiot Alex, idiot.

He could’ve helped you home! Now what? What if you’re lost for good? Does Donghae even know your number? He’d call me, right? Oh fudge, what am I talking about? Of course he wouldn’t call me, he’s probably knocked out right now! I mean, I saw his schedule, it’s insane!

I rubbed my eyes while I still walked and bumped into someone.

“I’m so sorry!” I said, looking up. A smile immediately fell upon my face when I see Henry rubbing his forehead.

He looked at me, “Oh, Alex?” he blinked. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m…Lost.” I awkwardly scratched the back of my neck, “They left me at music bank and I didn’t know the way home.”

“Oh…” he nodded his head, “Well, I’m gonna hit the convenience store before I go home, feel free to follow.”

“Thank you!” I beamed.

Henry’s 100% nicer than that old hag!

“Let’s go.” Henry smiled, pulling the violin strap.

I smiled at him, following him.

Okay, first off, I’m willing to admit that there’s an undeniable awkwardness between Henry and I as we were walking. I mean, it’s totally understandable, right? I thought he was Justin Beiber’s cousin just by the fact that he was from Canada. I mean, how could I think that? He’s asian, he has tiny eyes! Justin Beiber’s white and has big eyes, and he’s white. I mean, psh! I’m an idiot.

“So Alex,” Henry started. “How’s been living in the dorms doing for you?”

I stared at him, I never noticed his broken Korean before, “You can speak to me in English if you want.” I told him in English (if it wasn’t obvious.)

“Ah, that’s right, you’ve been to America.”

“Yup.”

“Well, have you heard of any Canadian jokes?” he asked, “If so, might as well let it out now.”

I couldn’t help but chuckle, “Not really, -ay”

“Oh that’s—oh wait.” He snapped, before smiling at me, waving his finger at me. “Oh-ho-ho-ho you clever fellow.”

“I’m a girl.” I smiled at him.

“Yes, yes I’m pretty sure of that.” He chuckled, “Ah, I feel bad for making you live as a boy though.”

“Eh, it’s fine, I guess.” I shrugged my shoulders, “You only live life once, so I can cross out ‘living as a boy’ off my bucket list.”

“Oh god.” He chuckled, “Yeah yeah, I got it. So…No hate on the poor Canadian?” he smiled.

I looked at him smiling and I couldn’t help but pinch his cheek. Why, you ask? It’s because, well… HAVE YOU SEEN HOW CHUBBY THEY ARE? It’s adorable! Oh my gosh, I feel like crying! They’re like a little baby’s cheek!

“Aigu, look at all the chubbiness.” I muttered in Korean.

“Ow!” he pouted, I let go of his cheek, “You’re like a grandmother.”

“I’m sorry!” I frowned, “It’s just that I’m like that when I see something so fluffy!”

“…My cheeks are fluffy?”

“Precisely.”

Henry rolled his eyes, a smile plastered on his face. “Oh wow.”

I smiled at him, “It’s not my fault you’re adorable.”

We finally got to the convenience store. We were welcomed by the clerk almost immediately. Of course, it was an old lady, so she couldn’t possibly have recognized Henry. I followed Henry as he walked to get a soda.

“Oh, Alex, if you want anything, just yell at me.”  Henry smiled.

“Really?” I beamed, “Thanks.”

“No problem. Just don’t go crazy, okay?”

I nodded, following Henry around still as he bought those rice balls (or triangles.) as if—oh no, he’s not eating that, right?  Does he know how unhealthy that is? Oh my gosh, how long has he been eating that? Urgh, I bet it’s the ‘homemade egg’ that made him not want to eat.

“Henry, I can speak to you informally, right?” I asked in English.

“Yeah, sure, it’s not like I care.” He replied, shrugging his shoulders.

“Do you go to the convenience store every day?”

“Yep.” Henry nodded, “Quite a few times a day, but other than that, I go to restaurants.”

“How long has it been since you’ve had something…Oh I dunno, homemade?”

“Since…” he thought for a while, “It’s been a while.”

“Do you want me to make you something? If I remember correctly, we still have plenty of food at home.”

“It’s okay.” He grinned, “Maybe tomorrow, but tonight, I just wanna eat and go to sleep.”

I sighed, “Alright.”

Henry looked around some more, “Do you want some ice cream?” he asked.

“Sure.”

“What flavor?”

“Anything’s fine.” I smiled as I walked over to the snack section.

I looked around that section and smiled, seeing all the snacks that I couldn’t see in America. I mean, sure, there were some that were in Asia, but for the most part, there wasn’t. Oh gosh, Asian snacks. Once I remember to bring my wallet, I swear I’ll indulge myself in you again.

However, one thing caught my eye, and I feel like I’m in heaven right now.

Mochi Choco Pie.

Immediately, I grabbed the box and walked to Henry, “Ready?”

He looked at me, and then at the box, “Um, sure.”

Henry took the box from me and went to the cashier to pay for it. I was behind him, wishing that the box was in my hand right now.

Ohhh gosh, mocha choco pie! I haven’t had it in soo long! Not to mention, it’s in my favorite flavor—sesame seed!  Oh gosh, it’s been soo long. Okay, I know some of you think I’m overreacting, but imagine 2 years without your favorite food. Just, just try to imagine it! And then, once you see that food on the shelf, you’d be insane and buy as much as you can, right?

‘Cause that’s me right now. Oh Mochi! I missed you soo much, did you know that?

Henry tugged my arm, breaking my mental babble. I looked at him and followed him out.

“So Alex,” Henry started. “You didn’t answer earlier, but how’s life in the dorms for you.”

I thought for a moment, “Well…There’s Jung su—”

“Say no more, I understand the pain.” Henry sighed, “Is he mean to you already?”

Okay, to be honest, I’m surprised. I mean, does everyone hate Leeteuk? It’s like he’s always the mean one, the jerk face, the poop head. Why is he like that? It’s not healthy to be mean all the time.

“Do you wanna sit down?” Henry asked.

I looked at him and nodded. We both sat on a bench in a nearby park. Henry opened the ice cream container and gave me a spoon, “Is green tea okay?”

“Of course.” I smiled, digging into the ice cream, “Thanks by the way, for buying.”

“No problem.” He said, opening the box of choco pies. “It’s completely fine, I mean, I owe you one for practically living as a guy.”

I smiled, taking a pie packet and opening it, “It’s no big deal. It sounds fun, other than Leeteuk of course.”

Henry scooped the ice cream into his mouth, “Trust me, he seems mean at first, but he’s a really caring person.”

“Caring my .” I muttered, opening another packet. “He’s nothing but a jerk.”

“Well, trust me when I say this, but he’s a butthole at first—only if you get on his bad side. An example would be me. When I met him, I didn’t know a thing about respect in Korea, so I used North America’s kind of respect.”

“Wait, you don’t mean—”

Henry extended his hand, “Hi Ms. Lee, nice to meet you.”

“To Leeteuk?”

“And to Lee Soo Man.”

“Oh my gosh, the guy that made SM entertainment?”

“Yeah, but Leeteuk was much ruder to me about it. Lee Soo Man took pity on me because he knew I was a foreigner, so he forgave me.”

“And Jung Su was a douche to you for how long?”

“Well, considering the fact that I was a foreigner, he was only mad at me for a month. Then after that, he started to warm up to me.”

“Ahh, I see.” I nodded.

“Besides, what’d you do? It honestly depends on his mood and what you did to make him that angry at you.”

“He got mad at me when I was trying to wake up my own brother because Donghae had a late schedule, he was talking to Donghae about forcing me out when he thought I wasn’t listening, I attacked one of the managers thinking that he was a fanboy, I got really mad at him so I started to talk to him disrespectfully and I ditched him somewhere in the streets because he was being such a douche.”

Henry’s jaw dropped, “Holy…”

“Cheese sticks.” I finished him as I continued to eat my ice cream. Henry gave me a confused look, I smiled. “Don’t curse for fun, only curse when you’re mad because it’ll have a scarier effect on people.”

“Ahh.” He nodded.

I smiled at him as I finished eating the ice cream, “Sorry, it’s just one of the things I’ve learned in life.”

“It’s fine, I don’t care.” He shrugged, “But anyways, Jung su’s really nice, but you might have to suffer a while before you see his nice side.”

“Of freaking wonderful.” I grumbled, opening another mochi packet.

“It’s worth it when you get on his good side.” Henry added, putting his feet on the bench, “It’s like you’re under his wing when you’re on his good side.”

“Really? So he’s like the hen protecting the chicks.”

“Pretty much.”

“But it’s not fair! I’m related to one of those chicks!”

“Well, you got on his bad side.”

“B-but, I’m a girl! Can’t he treat a girl better?”

“He thinks you’re a man.”

“I DON’T CARE, I’M A GIRL!” I pouted, wishing that Henry was a wall so I can just bang my head on it.

“I’m sorry…” he frowned.

I let out a small sigh, staring at him. “Well, I guess I should try to find a new place. One of the managers warned me about the stalker fans.”

“Oh, there are stalker fans everywhere.” He laughed, “But it’s mostly when we’re on promotions, so try not to worry too much, okay?”

“They are on promotion.”

“Oh shoot.”

“Yeah.”

“But maybe…Maybe…”

“Maybe what?” I sighed, “I’m going to die, and you know it and it’ll be your entire fault.”

“Again, sorry for that. I didn’t think Donghae would take it so seriously.”

“And how long have you known my brother?”

He was silent for a bit, “I should’ve known, I’m sorry.”

“Yeah yeah, whatever.” I sighed.

“I swear, I’ll make it up somehow.”

“Maybe you should find a way for me to stay as far away as the members as possible.”

He thought for a moment, “Do you wanna come to the SM practice room with me? The members come over there once in a while, but since they’re on promotions, I don’t think they’ll have enough time for that.”

I looked at him and beamed, “YES!”

Henry Lau, I think I’ve found myself another sidekick.
