Chapter 42 : The End

Making an Error

“Hello and welcome to the show, where we have a very special guest for you today!” A middle-aged host was sitting on a stool on a simple, dark set. He was dressed rather formally, a large TV mounted next to him, currently displaying a simple show logo. He gestured across the TV where the six young men of VIXX were also dressed up, seated in two rows, stadium-style. “VIXX is here today to discuss their newest video, ‘Error’. Please introduce yourselves!”

N, seated front and center, bowed his head to being their introduction, “We are Real V! V. I. X. X. VIXX!” They all joined in, giving the V/peace sign before waving to the camera.

“I am so glad we are able to have this program with you today,” The host continued, looking towards the camera again. “We would usual go through this program analyzing your video step by step, but we have a special program planned for today.” The boy’s all ‘ooh’d and ‘aah’d, looking at each other, making it apparent that they were, indeed, surprised.

The host smiled warmly at them before turning his attention back to the camera, “You have been promoting this mini album for about a month now, correct?”

“Yes,” Ravi spoke from the back left, “We debuted our comeback around a month ago and have been performing pretty much nonstop since then,” he smiled a little, “We are glad to get a little break now.”

“Very good, very good,” the host spoke again, scanning them carefully, “Did you know that we already conducted a very special interview in preparation for this one?”

Immediately, the young men began to look around at each other, looking for confirmation of this fact. “Another interview?” N asked warily, sill glancing at his fellow members around him.

“Yes, indeed,” the host grinned, looking back to the camera, “A member of your company travelled all the way to American in order to get your collaborator’s thoughts on the matter.” The six men began to murmur to each other quietly. They had absolutely no idea. There was a mix of excitement and anxiety in their voices. “So how we’ll do this interview,” the host pressed, “is that we will see a question asked to Mira, hear her response, and then we will get your answers as well. Is that okay?”

“Yes,” N responded warily, “We had no idea,” he voiced again, looking around.

“I’ll warn you now,” the host said as the monitor flicked to life, “In order to appeal to international fans, the interview was conducted in English, but there are subtitles for us.” And then on the screen, there she was. VIXX fell silent, six pairs of eyes on the screen.

“Thank you so much for meeting with me, Mira,” the female interviewer spoke in slightly accented English, but Mira’s smile was genuine all the same.

“It is nice to meet you,” she responded quickly with a little nod.

“When I first came to your office, you looked a little disappointed.”

Mira laughed nervously, reaching up to rub her neck behind her dark red hair, “Well, the secretary simply said I had a visitor from Korea, so,” she trailed off, looking away, a flash of sadness crossing her face. “I am still very grateful,” she recovered quickly, looking back to her guest.

“Well I would like to start this interview by apologizing on behalf of Jellyfish Entertainment.”

“Apologize?” Mira’s brows scrunched together in confusion.

“We had hidden cameras placed all around the building,” the interviewer lost composure for a moment, looking extremely apologetic, “But we would like to stress that there was not one in your room.”

Halley sighed lightly, looking down for a second, “I suppose I can’t be too surprised. Thank you for telling me.”

~~~
The host paused the interview then, causing VIXX to straighten up suddenly, broken out of their stupor from watching their Mira speaking once again. “It’s strange seeing her speak so much English again,” Ken spoke up, looking to the host, who simply nodded. Ken remembered when he had interrupted her phone call to Ian Eastwood, her easy and fluent English had been so delightful to hear.
“Did any of you know about the cameras?” the host pressed, looking to each of them.
They all shook their heads, “No,” Hongbin spoke, “I was encouraged to film us together whenever possible, but it was mostly for VIXX TV.”
The host caught sight of Leo, who was fidgeting slightly, “Leo,” he prompted, “Are you nervous to see what was filmed?”
Leo looked slightly panicked. In his mind, he recalled all of the events that had occurred during that time. He took a long breath, “I trust our company to edit appropriately,” he spoke as vague as he could get away with. Would they finally show what happened in that first rehearsal? He supposed it didn’t matter much anymore.
The rest of VIXX laughed at his comment, though each of them silently agreed. Some things that happened in that building were a bit too intimate to be shared with the public. “Well then,” the host interrupted their silent thoughts, “let’s continue.”
~~~

“Well Mira, we have our first clip,” the interviewer continued, “Are you ready?”

“Let’s see it,” Mira said with a bright smile, looking to the smaller monitor between them. That screen came to life, and dark footage began to roll. Immediately Mira laughed as she watched. It was footage of her first time seeing VIXX. They were all lined up, and she was hiding with Charlotte and Mr. Kim in the audience.

“Go ahead and tell us what’s happening,” the interviewer encourage.

Mira looked to the interviewer, a genuine smile taking over her pale, freckled face, “This was our first meeting,” she spoke fondly as she looked back to the screen, but she laughed again, “I had to ask a member of management to label them, because I had no idea who they were at the time.”

“Were the colors your idea?”

“No,” she shook her head, “I just needed something and I guess that was the closest thing they could find. It made it much easier on me, since I was able to track them as they performed and easily was able to take notes.”

“What kind of notes did you take?”

Mira glanced away from the screen just briefly, “General ability, first impressions, that sort of thing.”

The interviewer smiled a little, “Was there a moment that changed your mind?”

“Actually, in a few second here we’ll see Leo absolutely kill it on a high note. I had written that he was a good singer, for sure, but nothing special. When he hit that note, there, see, you see my head snap up,” Mira pointed excitedly at the screen, where, as she had said, you could see in the darkness that she had perked up as soon as the high note hit in ‘Eternity’.

“And that impressed you?”

“The note itself was good, to be sure,” Mira started, “but what really caught me was how absolutely uninhibited it was. Like, this guy did not hold back, and I really appreciate performers like that.”

~~~
Leo was nowhere to be seen when the camera cut away from the paused monitor. He had shrunk behind Ravi, trying to hide his face from the camera. The embarrassment was too much. “Yet again we see Leo’s aversion to compliments,” the host laughed.
The rest of VIXX was grinning as well. It took N to gently coax his friend back to his seat, but even then, his head remained bowed. “She was a surprise for us,” Ravi spoke up, simultaneously distracting from Leo’s embarrassment and changing the subject.
“Yes, I heard it took several months for you company to get her to Korea,” the host continued, looking to each of them, “And how did each of you react?”
“I think we were all just shocked and surprised,” Ken spoke, “We had heard she had been requested, but never thought it would actually happen.”
~~~

“So when you moved into the Jellyfish building, what was that like?

Mira huffed a little, looking at the momentarily blank screen, “They were not comfortable with me at all.” Pausing, she looked to the camera for a moment, “Ravi bit the bullet and started visiting me. And I am so appreciative that he came out of his comfort zone to break the ice.”

“Why do you think they were so uncomfortable?” the interviewer asked, sounding genuinely curious.

“I actually am not sure,” she reached to gently tug on a strand of hair near her face, green eyes looking away, “But luckily, I had a great opportunity to lure them to my room,” she looked back up, a thin smile on her face.

“Will you tell us about it?” the interviewer eagerly asked.

Mira nodded slightly, “My manager had sent me a big box of American candy,” the interviewer interrupted with a laugh, and Mira’s smile grew, “Ravi stopped by to visit, and he saw it. We started eating it really loud, and one by one the rest of them started to show up to investigate.”

“Really?” the interviewer seemed genuinely entertained now, “Just from candy?”

“It was really good, to be fair,” Mira replied with a little laugh. “It was really nice, though, as if a wall had been climbed. After that, they seemed much more comfortable coming to visit.”

~~~
“Was it really that easy?” the host asked with a little smirk.
“Yes,” Ravi replied with a loud laugh, “American candy isn’t something we get very often, so it was an easy lure.”
“But the real question is,” the host spoke up, “Why were you so uncomfortable around Mira?”
Ravi continued to speak, “I think it was a combination of a few things. You have this incredibly talented, beautiful, foreign woman move in right down the hall, you can’t help but be a little nervous, I guess.”
“Not to mention,” N spoke up, “She was very strict and rough with us the first few meetings, so we didn’t know how she would be on a personal level. I think we were scared she was going to be mean,” N grinned, holding back a laugh, “So I’m glad we got over that.”
The video was paused, but Leo’s eyes were still glued to the monitor. Mira was smiling, fresh from laughter. He couldn’t help but inspect her face. It had been a whole month since they had said good-bye. He was thankful that the host seemed to be leaving him alone, since it was pretty apparent he was staring.
~~~

The little screen between Mira and her interviewer lit up again, and this time it was edited footage with the word ‘Montage’ written across the screen. “So now we have a montage from the cameras in the studio of your first rehearsals with each of the VIXX members.”

Mira’s head shot up to look at the interviewers, “Studio cameras?” her voice was very slightly nervous as she flicked her eyes back to the screen. There was no time for more questions as the footage began to roll. First was Mira at the piano, N leaning on it, singing effortlessly. The audio was quiet and muffled from the low quality, but Mira’s smile was warm as she watched. The video cut, a black screen again, a message reading ‘Most of Leo’s footage has been lost’. Mira’s relief was visible as she let out a long breath. When the footage started again, it was of Mira, sitting in the studio corner on the floor, head in her hands.

“What happened?” the interviewer asked quietly, but Mira just put up a finger, as Ravi stormed into the room. The footage cut to the point where he bent down, scooping her up into his arms, carrying her back upstairs. After another cut, it was Ken, swinging his feet as he sat on the subwoofer, headphones on as he was singing. Another cut and the camera was on Ravi and Mira, dancing to ‘Rock Ur Body’. Next was Hongbin and Mira, staring at each other in wonder right after he hit his first real low note. Finally another cut, and instead of the studio, it was Hyuk fast asleep outside of Mira’s door. And just like that, it was over.

The interviewer cleared , getting Mira’s attention. “Will you walk us through those?” she asked gently.

Mira nodded quietly, thinking hard for a long while, “Well, as you could see, N was fantastic and easy to work with.”

“But what happened with Leo?” the interviewer pressed, “It’s unfortunate the footage was lost, but you looked awful!”

Mira laughed awkwardly, “There isn’t much to say. I am glad Ravi found me, though,” she did her best to brush it off, trying to convey her wish to not speak about it.

“Alright, alright,” the interviewer relented, “And Ken? What was he doing?”

“Ah,” Mira sighed happily, “He was sitting on a subwoofer listening to a song while wearing headphones. I wanted him to sing without hearing, but being able to feel the beat.” When her companion simply nodded along, Mira decided to continue, “Ravi didn’t really need my help, so he volunteered to teach me some dances, but Hongbin,” she paused, her grin returning, “That was the moment when we discovered he had an incredibly rich baritone voice.”

“He didn’t know before?”

“No, he had been singing slightly lower than the rest, maybe with Ravi, but no one had bothered testing just how low he could go.”

“I guess that explains the surprise in ‘Error,’” the interviewer said with a little chuck.

Mira nodded, “Exactly, I knew I had to use it.”

“So what’s with just a picture of Hyuk asleep outside your door?”

Another laugh came from Mira’s lips, “He was a bit excited, I guess. He woke up early to meet me, but I guess it was a little too early.”

~~~
“Alright Leo,” the host spoke accusingly, “You’ve been quiet so far. Will you tell us what happened?”
“No.” Leo shook his head once, not even entertaining the idea.
When the host looked to the other members for help, they all shrugged or shook their heads, “Whatever happened down there,” Ravi spoke, “it was bad. My guess is that they got into some sort of fight and they both lost.” They laughed at this, but Leo looked away.
“Leo hyung looked like he had seen a ghost when he came upstairs,” Hyuk chimed in, “He didn’t say a word for the rest of the day.”
“And she looked, well, you saw her.” Ravi added with little smile.
The host seemed to be satisfied by this, knowing he wouldn’t get anything else out of them at this point, so he simply hit play again.
~~~

“So,” the interviewer continued, “Before we watch anymore footage, we have some pictures, some of which were taken by Hongbin. Would you be willing to explain them?”

Mira’s eyebrows raised a little, but nodded, “Of course.” The first picture appeared on the screen, it was of Mira and Hongbin, hugging each other tightly, the neck of Mira’s guitar in Hongbin’s hand. “Ah,” Mira spoke up immediately, a warm smile spreading over her face, “I gave Hongbin my guitar.”

“You gave it to him?” the interviewer repeated.

“Mmm,” Mira stared at it for a little while, “I think Hyuk took his picture. But yes, I gave it to Hongbin. He and I are both left handed, and he wanted to learn. I figured he’d be more motivated if he had an instrument with some history.”

The interviewer nodded slightly before clicking to the next image. “What about this one?” The screen flickered slightly as the next photo appeared on screen.

Mira’s eyebrows raised slightly as she shifted slightly to see it. It was a picture of a very cranky looking Leo, carrying Mira in his arms. “Oh,” Mira said quietly. She had not expected this one to make an appearance, “I didn’t know Hongbin took a picture,” she mused. Suddenly, she remembered where she was, straightening up a little. “This was taken when I was mixing and mastering ‘Error’ down in the studio. I guess I fell asleep down there. Leo and Hongbin found me.”

“Why do you think Leo looks so angry?” the interviewer asked with a little laugh.

Mira smiled a little, but it was a little bit sad. “It’s probably because he doesn’t have a free hand to stop Hongbin from taking a picture.”

“I heard you and VIXX grew close, but I didn’t think you were this close.”

Mira raised an eyebrow again, “Well, we practically lived together, and when I first arrived, I told them to treat me as an equal. If we were going to do good work, I needed to be one of them.”

“Well, it looked like you were successful.”

“Yeah,” Mira’s voice dropped slightly, “Yeah I was.”

There was a heavy, awkward silence for a moment before the screen changed. Thankfully, a much happier image appeared. It was Hyuk, with Mira on his back. Her face was obscured by the cowboy hat she was wearing, but she was clearly kissing him on the cheek. Hyuk’s face was absolutely priceless, the smile on his face lighting up the entire picture. “I didn’t see this during VIXX TV!” the interviewer spoke up quickly.

Mira grinned, glad for the mood change, “I made sure the camcorder wasn’t facing us, but I guess one of the guys must have snuck a shot at us anyway.”

“For the fans who haven’t seen that episode, can you explain what happened?”

“If a fan hasn’t seen that episode, they really need to,” Mira said between laughs, “It was so much fun. We went to the fair, and they guys all took turns carrying me around. This was right after I totally smoked Leo at the shooting gallery, and Hyuk wanted me to get the cowboy hat prize.”

The interviewer smiled genuinely for a while, “That was probably the most popular VIXX TV episode to date.”

“It was so much fun,” Mira repeated, “That was a great day.”

~~~
“It was a great day,” Hyuk spoke as soon as the video paused.
“But Hongbin,” the host interrupted, “Do you realize how much that guitar is worth?”
Hongbin’s dimpled smile appeared, “Yes,” he said simply, “but I would never in my life sell it. It’s too special.”
“Just don’t be surprised if an American collector comes to your door wanting to bid on it,” the host laughed as he spoke. “So have you learned to play?”
“Ah,” Hongbin laughed awkwardly a little, “Mira was giving me lessons while she was here. I’ve tried to keep it up, but it’s pretty slow learning,” he admitted.
“So,” the host spoke up again, “We’ll watch this next segment in a bit, but I want your opinion ahead of time. She’s about to get asked about her other acquaintances in Korea.”
N sat up a little, shifting on his stool, “She was incredibly popular,” he started, “As soon as it became public that she was here, all of us were bombarded by friends and otherwise about how they could meet her.”
“From what I hear,” the host mused, “You were the one to set her up first.”
“Well,” N laughed a little, “Taemin was her first connection. She knew of him before arriving here, since they had a mutual friend. G-Dragon also showed up to her first public appearance. But after that, yes, I did set her up with Henry.”
“About Taemin,” The host interrupted, “She seemed especially close with him. Did that affect your relationship with her at all? She was sighted at SMTown and seemed to spend a lot of time with other artists.”
They all looked around at each other, “No,” Ravi answered definitively, “Sometimes I think it was good for her to get out and take a break from her work with us. Taemin is one of my best friends, and I was happy to add her to that circle.”
“I’m happy she made so many connections,” Hyuk said, “It means there’s a higher chance of her returning to Korea.” The rest of VIXX and the host chuckled at the innocent answer. But it was true. The rest of VIXX held the same sentiment.
The host nodded for a short while, “Well let’s hear what she has to say on the subject,” he segued into the next question, starting the interview again.
~~~

“You made quite a few friends outside of VIXX in Korea, didn’t you?” the interviewer pressed onward.

“Yes,” Mira answered with a little nod, “None quite so close as any of the VIXX members, but I was extremely fortunate to be able to meet several talented individuals.”

“Who would you say struck you the most?”

Mira drew a long breath, thinking, “It’s not really a fair question since I loved meeting everyone. I do honestly hope I get to see them again. Leeteuk, Heechul, GD, Kyuhyun, Daesung, Taeyeon, Tiffany, Henry, Seungri, Kai, Taemin, and I’m sorry if I missed anyone,” Mira sighed a little, but her smile persisted.

“Very political,” the interviewer laughed as she spoke, “Any special shoutouts?”

Mira smiled a little, but then looked into the camera, “You had better be taking care of yourself, Taemin!”

“On that note, several people have been curious about your relationship with SHINee’s Taemin. Is there anything you would like to say on the subject?”

Mira’s face expressed surprise at the bluntness, but she was clearly not surprised by the question, “Taemin and I had a mutual friend in Ian Eastwood. But even if we hadn’t, I think we still would have become extremely close. Like with Ravi, when we met, I could just tell we would get along. He’s an incredibly easy going guy. He’s like a little brother to me now.”

“We actually have an interesting clip to show you,” the interviewer said with a warm smile, “I think you’ll find it interesting.”

The monitor switched to a segment of an interview, but it wasn’t of Taemin. It was Kai. Mira’s mouth was slightly agape as she watched, not having expected this. “So Kai,” an off-camera voice spoke, “Is it true that you are good friends with SHINee’s Taemin and VIXX’s Ravi?”

“Oh yes,” he answered with a broad smile, “Outside of EXO they’re my best friends. I get to see Taemin much more since we’re on the same label, but the three of us hang out whenever we can.”

“Can you share a story with all three of you?”

Kai thought hard for a moment, “Actually, this seems like a silly story to tell since Taemin wasn’t conscious for most of it, but the last time all three of us were together was when Taemin fell ill. He collapsed after one of his concerts, and an SM manager called me to look after him, but” Kai stopped to laugh, “I’m not very good at that sort of thing. When I got to SHINee’s dorm, Taemin was on his bed unconscious. All I could do was pull of his shirt and jacket, and then I just panicked by how hot he was, so I called Ravi.”

“And did Ravi come over?”

“Yeah, and he brought much needed help,” Kai said with a grin. “He brought Mira and Leo.”

“The American, Mira?”

“Yes,” Kai laughed again, “And thank god he did. Ravi and I were like delirious parents, just sitting by his bed worrying. Mira totally took charge, ordering Leo around like it was nothing. She managed to move Taemin and sit behind him, propping him up all night to make sure he could breathe okay.”

“I hear they were very close.”

“That’s an understatement,” he grinned again, “I’m so glad I got to meet her. Taemin adored her. And clearly she adored him, too. Like siblings. I’m so incredibly grateful to her, and to Ravi for having the sense to bring someone who knew what they were doing.”

Mira watched as the clip ended, a smile still on her face. “That was a rough night,” she mentioned, finally looking back to her interviewer.

“So it’s all true?”

“Yeah,” Mira grinned a little wider, “Kai and Ravi were totally useless.”

~~~
“I was pretty useless,” Ravi admitted, his crooked smile appearing once again.
“Is it true Mira bossed Leo around?” the host asked with a little laugh.
“Yes,” Leo said, finally allowing himself to smile a little, “But she needed help, and as you’ve heard,” Leo looked to his left, “The other two were so beside themselves, they were useless.”
They all laughed together. N smiled broadly back at Leo. He didn’t need to say anything to express his pride. They all knew Leo hated speaking during interviews, but they all appreciated it when he played along.
~~~

“We have one more clip for you,” the interviewer said with a little smile.

“Alright,” Mira nodded, sitting up a little to view the screen a bit better.

“Before we start,” the interviewer paused, “It is pretty well known that the VIXX members are pranksters, right?”

Mira looked up at the interviewer again, “Yeah, they involved me several times, in fact,” she grinned a little, “It was all in fun, of course.”

“Who then,” the interviewer thought, “Is the most guilty of pulling pranks?”

“Oh,” Mira thought for a moment, “I’m not sure, I mean, they all seemed to participate. Maybe Hyuk or Ravi?”

“Well, watch this clip,” the interviewer nodded to the screen.

It was on the set of ‘Error’s video. Mira’s eyes widened slightly, “No,” she whispered slightly as the camera focused. It was Leo, on the green screen set. She had just called cut and stomped toward him to fix his makeup. As soon as she was satisfied, the take began. As soon as Mira looked away, Leo reached up and wiped the line quickly with his finger. The camera caught Mira doing a double take, once again walking up to Leo to fix the penciled line. The footage cut to the next take, then the next, showing how Leo would deftly smudge his own makeup at the end of each take without being noticed, just to have Mira come and fix it. Mira gaped at the screen, shock written all over her face.

The interviewer was stifling her own giggle once the clip ended, “By your reaction, it seems he didn’t tell you?”

“No!” Mira suddenly snapped out of her little daze, looking to the interviewer. “That little cheeky bastard!” she cried, but a little smirk crept across her face. She turned, scooting her chair closer to the camera. She leaned in, pointing straight into the lens, “Taekwoon, you little jerk, you knew how hard I was working that day!” Suddenly she sighed, her head drooping for a moment. Looking back up, she was smiling again, “That was good,” she admitted, “I can’t believe you,” she trailed off, shaking her head as she replaced her chair to its original position.

~~~
Leo had the tiniest smirk on his lips when the clip paused, the rest of VIXX looking at him in surprise. “I had no idea you had it in you!” Ken cried proudly, “Our little Leo hyung getting ballsy!”
Under the pressure, Leo considered retreated as he usually did, but he slowly the right side of his lip before biting down, repressing a smile, “I wanted to see how long she would keep it up.”
“Holy crap, Leo,” Ravi was laughing raucously, “When did she give up?”
“Never,” Leo responded smugly, smirking slightly, “We finished the shoot.”
They continued to chuckle amongst themselves as they looked at the screen, the paused face of Mira, once again smiling her natural post-laugh smile. The rest of VIXX all were, in reality, watching their own Taekwoon. After a ton of aggressive interrogation from Ravi, Leo had admitted what had happened that day in the airport stairwell. Well, not all of what happened, but the general idea. He was doing his best during this interview to hide his own heartbreak.
“We have one more segment,” the host gently interrupted. Even he could feel there was tension in the room. “Before we watch it, I have a very general question for all of you.” They all turned their attention back to the host, doing their best to smile politely. “If you would,” he continued, “Tell me what it was like to work with Mira. This is your chance to talk about it.”
They all looked back at each other. It was such a broad question. “Where to start?” Hakyeon said with a dry laugh. “I guess, for me, Mira taught all of us a great deal. Not just about music, but about working together. It sounds silly because she’s a solo artist, but,” he paused, looking around for confirmation from his brothers, “I feel like she brought us all together somehow.”
“She found our weaknesses,” Ken continued for him, nodding, “both vocally and personally. We found some of hers, too. It just comes with trying to get to know somebody.”
Ravi nodded now, “Her American personality was quite forceful sometimes,” this drew a laugh from the host, “but she really wanted to know us in a way we weren’t used to a stranger wanting. She got to know us, and we got to know her, so our work really benefitted from it.”
“She tailored this new song,” Hyuk gestured to the giant poster at the back of the room, “to all of the new discoveries she made. Hongbin hyung’s new voice, my English singing, Ken and Leo’s harmonies,” he listed, “Everything that is new and exciting about ‘Error’ is because of Mira.”
They looked to Hongbin now, who nodded as well, “She had more confidence in us that we did. It was a great motivator.”
Not a single pair of eyes fell on Leo. No one expected him to speak. He looked around, noticing this fact, his brows furrowing. He looked up to the camera, rather than the host, “Mira is incredibly stubborn, blunt, and harsh.” As he spoke, the surprised faces of VIXX turned to look at him in surprise. He paid no mind, pressing on, “It also meant that she was determined, honest, and incredibly hard-working. We will never be the same. She has changed us all for the better.”
The silence that followed was incredibly heavy. Finally, the host quietly interrupted, “Let’s roll the clip,” he spoke simply, gesturing towards the monitor.
~~~

“So Mira,” the interviewer spoke with an air of finality, “Tell us what it was like working with VIXX as a whole.”

“Wow,” Mira gave a little laugh, “That’s quite a question.” She tugged at a strand of her hair again, thinking hard to gather her thoughts, “VIXX,” she began slowly, “is a group of six incredibly talented young men,” she said decisively, glancing at the interviewer for a brief moment before looking away again. She sighed, her breath slightly shaky now, “But they’re not just talented. They are the perfect balance of individuals, and I have all the confidence in the world that they will be successful. As long as they continue to support each other and make each other as happy as I know they can- they’ll be a force in the industry for years to come.”

The interviewer smiled warmly, “Would you like to send final messages to them now?” she gestured to the camera.

Mira’s deep green eyes flicked to the lens, “Will they see this for sure?”

The interviewer laughed, “We’ll make sure they do.”

With a little chuckle, Mira nodded, “Okay, can I speak in Korean for this?” Once the interviewer nodded, Mira switched to Korean, English subtitles showing up on the screen as she spoke, “Cha Hakyeon,” she began, smiling warmly into the camera. “Leader-N. I,” she stopped, her face contorting momentarily, “Oh Hakyeon, you know,” she paused again, taking a breath, “I never knew my mother. But I think you’re the closest I’ll ever get,” she smiled a little, but her eyes were sad. “The way you can switch between leader, friend, and caretaker of the group is incredible. You manage to stay positive no matter what, and you know your members better than anyone else. And with one of the most accurate and unique voices I’ve heard in a long time.” Mira had to pause again, gathering herself again, “I will miss your perfect, bright smile. It really kept me going when things got hard.”

It was a lot to handle, emotionally. Mira looked down for a moment. She had to do Leo next, and she wasn’t sure what to say. For some reason ‘I’m still in love with you’ didn’t seem like a good start. “Jung Taekwoon,” she let the name fall from her lips. She bounced her feet, still looking down at her hands. She couldn’t stall for long, they were still filming. “Leo,” she looked up into the camera, forcing a smile, “I am so incredibly grateful for every minute we got to spend together. You started out so cold and angry,” she paused to laugh once, dry and ironic, “but whenever I talked to anyone else about you, they told me that you were scary. And I bet if I had met you under different circumstances, maybe I would have thought that, too. Even though you fought me the whole way, I am so glad you eventually came to trust me.” This speech wasn’t nearly as emotional, but she looked into the camera’s lens desperately, attempting to communicate with him how they usually did- not with words, but expressions. There was no way she could keep talking without cracking. She hoped he was not disappointed.

“Lee Jaehwan,” Mira was able to smile, then, “Ken, you are the funniest guy I have ever met. I’m so glad someone with your talent can still be so humble and cooperative. You don’t try to overpower your members, you sing with them in such a harmonious way,” She stopped to look up, remembering, “I still must say,” she looked back down, “That was a total crappy game we played,” throwing a Ken-style obnoxious wink at the camera, she laughed quietly. “But you know, nobody gives you enough credit, Ken. You’re probably the smartest and most observant out of everyone. You act silly, but you’re also quietly watching out for your brothers.” Mira shook her head a little, “Please keep looking out for everyone. And don’t be afraid to follow your ambitions. Your brothers will be there for you.”

Halfway through, Mira took a deep breath, “Kim Wonsik,” she couldn’t help but smile now, “Ravi, when I first met you, I had that feeling- that instant feeling you get when you just know you’re going to get along with someone. That’s so rare, and yet I felt it with you and Taemin. I don’t know why, but I was so drawn to you.” She had to stop. She didn’t want to get too deep into that, “Your casual attitude really helped make me feel at home. And I am so glad you had the balls to show up at my door, giving me that rose of sharon. I think if it hadn’t been for you, we never would have got this far.”

“Lee Hongbin,” Mira laughed, “You already go by your real name. Good for you,” she joked, giving a thumbs-up to the camera. “You had better become the greatest guitarist Korea has ever seen! I miss my Gary, so you had better be taking care of it,” she was still smiling as she sat back in her chair, “In all seriousness, Hongbin, I’m going to take credit for all of your success from now on. Not only did I give you an amazing guitar, but I also discovered your amazing vocal range. Don’t ever let anyone else label you,” her voice grew serious. “It doesn’t matter what people call you, you are Hongbin, an incredibly talented musician. Who gives a about dimples, right?” she gave a more subtle wink this time.

That only left one more. Mira felt like she was writing in a high school yearbook at this point, trying to compress heartfelt feelings into a single paragraph. With a deep breath, she resolved to get through the last one intact. “Han Sanghyuk,” she said slowly, “Hyukkie, I already have a little brother, but you’re the best little brother a sister could ask for.” For the first time since this started, she glanced to the interviewer, who was watching calmly, “My brother is going to kill me when I go home,” Mira laughed nervously, but then looked back to the camera, “Hyuk, I’ve told you this before, but you are an anchor for VIXX. You might be young, but your vocals are absolutely rock solid, and your temperament is so mellow and pleasant, you honestly keep everyone together. I can’t wait to watch you grow, even if it’s from far away.” She let out a long breath.

“Any final thoughts?” the interviewer said softly, her voice nearly as emotional as Mira’s.

Mira’s face was suddenly very pained as she looked away, “I guess,” she started, “I miss you all so much,” she looked back to the camera. “I will never forget the time I spent with you. All I can hope is that by the time I get back to Korea, you’re not too famous for little old Mira,” she bit her lip, eyes shining with unshed tears. With a shaky breath, she continued, “I love you all.”

~~~
The room was quiet as the monitor faded to black. “That’s it?” Hyuk’s voice was small and far away, like that of a lost child. They all looked to the host, who was watching them, his face sympathetic. All six of the idols looked incredibly weary, as if what they had watched had physically drained them of their strength.
“She might watch this you know,” the host offered meekly. “Any final thoughts?”
They all looked to one another again, silently debating over who should speak. N looked as if he were about to speak when a hand fell on his shoulder. It was Ravi, “Let me, hyung,” he murmured quietly. When N nodded, Ravi looked up to the host before looking to the camera, “Halley Browne,” he started, a little crooked half-smile on his face, though his eyes were incredibly gloomy. “Mira, even if we never have the pleasure of meeting you again, know that we will also never forget you. Even if we are apart, we will be rooting for you in America. But if you ever do make your way back to Korea, you will always be a part of VIXX. You will always have a home with us.”
Another heavy silence fell over the room, but finally it was Hakyeon who cracked, a single shaky sob cutting through the quiet. The host, clearly flustered, looked to the camera, “This has been VIXX with their incredible insight to their time with American superstar Mira. Thank you for tuning in to Behind the Scenes: The making of VIXX’s ‘Error’.”
Chapter 44: Whelp, just finished my 3rd time reading this. It never gets old, and always I end it with a happy smile. This is actually my first re-read since I finished The Great Reclamation (which I've also re-read since), and it left me pondering all the connections between each of your stories. I admit, I'd totally missed the reference to Nunsongi in my previous reads, and it made me sad that that's currently down for a re-write, because I really was enjoying the story for as far as you'd written it. Hopefully we'll get to see it eventually! Anyways, that's all for now! See you when I have the urge to read this story again, haha. =D
Chapter 44: Hello Author-nim!Oh fudge, that was just sublime! Words can't express my gratitude for reading such a lovely piece. Although, I got to discover this late already, I still hope your offer stands on that second epilogue as well as the bonus chapter/s.
Although, it feels empty now with the story ending, it was beautifully wrapped up!
Once again, thank you so much for showering the readers with your awesomeness! More power!
