When Tao had communicated his decision to Kai the next morning, he had been content about it. Tao was still not convinced this was the right thing to do in their situation but his baby came first. Plus Kai had been nothing but nice to him until now and he had treated him with with the outmost respect.

They had decided, together with Kai’s parents that they would get married  in two months. Kai’s mother had insisted on a big wedding but Tao felt really uncomfortable with the idea. He came from a simple family and he didn’t want his parents or his relatives to feel embarrased with all those rich people around. He told them that the only way he would go through with the wedding was if him and Kai would have a small ceremony with only their loved ones present. Kai’s mother had reluctanly agreed and the deal was made.

Having Kai next to him all the time felt strange somehow. Tao was enjoying the attention but he couldn’t help but feel a bit sad knowing that Kai was only thinking about the baby. His baby bump was obvious now and everybody in the company kept asking him about it. In the beginning he didn’t know what to say but Kai had assured him that he was entitled to tell them the truth if he so preferred. They would get married soon so there was not real reason to hide it.

As Kai’s mother had predicted, Xiumin seemed to be even more excited about his pregnancy than Kai was. He visited Kai’s office everyday now just so that he could rub Tao’s bump or ask about how he was feeling. Tao found that extremely cute but he would have wanted Kai to act more like Xiumin. He was so good at hiding his feelings that Tao had no clue if he was actually happy about this. His sense of responsibility was starting to bother Tao. He was tired of pretending things were fine because they weren’t. He was going to marry a guy he didn’t know almost anything about and who seemed not to want to share anything about himself.

While Tao was was drowning in his misery, Kai was struggling with some of his own. He wanted to build a lasting relationship with Tao but he didn’t really now how to go about it. He wasn’t used to sharing things about himself and even he could see that Tao was feeling sad about it. He needed to find a way to get closer to Tao. Desperate times called for desperate measures. He was determined to make Tao see that he did care about him and the baby.

When they returned from the office that day, Kai had insisted on them having dinner together. Tao had complied but hadn’t expected much of a change in Kai’s behaviour. He was positively surprised to realize, however, that Kai was really giving it his all to open up more in front of Tao. It was a small step but still better than nothing. Tao had a lovely dinner and he was happy. He was certain that his dreams would be pleasant that night and that maybe him and Kai could make it work in the end.
