Cola

My Small World
Five
— Cola —

"I'm Shinae. You're Hyunjung, right?"

"Uh, yeah." Hyunjung said, feeling slightly insecure. She still wasn't accustomed to new people approaching her. Shinae gave her a sweet smile, "I'm in your class."

Hyunjung took a brief moment to look at her. She never really paid attention to the people in her class and she wondered how she never really paid much attention to Shinae. To Hyunjung, she was just that chirpy, bubbly girl that was friendly with anyone she talked too. A total opposite of herself. It made her feel even more distant than she did before... wow, what a feeling.

Shinae cleared . "So, you're friends with Jungkook."

"Yeah."

Shinae looked past her. "And, what about Taehyung?"

"I guess so?" Hyunjung replied. Shinae looked down and her lips compressed into a thin, serious line.

"I see..." She quickly snapped her head back up and smiled at her. "Well, I'll see you round then."

"Uh-- yeah, okay." Hyunjung said, fighting down her lingering sense of disappointment. Well, that was abrupt. She wished they talked for longer; it could've been a chance for her to make a friend. Once again, she was alone. She felt useless. She said to herself many times that she would make the extra effort, but everytime, she would chicken out and barely make any significant progress. At this rate she'll be stuck on the same square forever.

"Idiot. Why are you standing there like a moron? You look like you're in a trance or something."

"You're so sincere aren't you?" she said, turning her head to face Taehyung. She watched as he opened one of the two cokes he held in his hands. "And why do you have two cans of coke?"

"Why not?" he replied, putting it to his lips and drinking from it. Hyunjung watched him worriedly. "You know, that stuff is bad for you if you drink too much."

"Idiot. Who said they were both for me?" he said, offering the other one to her.

She eyed it suspiciously. "Okay, what did you do to it?"

He stared at her, obviously agitated. "What are on about? I'm trying to be nice!"

She regarded the cola he still held out to her.

Taehyung scoffed. "Just accept it will you? I even paid for it."

She took it from his hands, thanking him. She opened the can and took a sip from it. She looked back at the claw crane game; she really wanted that purple bunny. Taehyung saw her staring at it intently and sighed.

"This girl, seriously," he muttered under his breath. He hurled the empty can into a bin and walked past her. "Come on then," he said. Hyunjung followed  behind. He inserted a token into the machine. "Alright, what do you want?"

She pointed to the purple bunny she had attempted to get earlier. Taehyung held the joystick and she watched as he guided the claw towards the bunny. She beamed when the claw grabbed it.

Taehyung handed her the plushie. "Here."

Hyunjung put her cola aside and took it. "Thank you so much!" she exclaimed, hugging the bunny tightly.

Taehyung croseed his arms, a smile forcing on his lips. "Such a kid."

"Hey, shut up."

"Whatever."

She felt happy.

"Hyunjung! Hey!" She turned and saw Jungkook walking towards them. "Hey Hyunjung, hi Taehyung." He said, smiling widely at both of them. She noticed he did that a lot; genuinely smiling at people on a daily basis. Seems pretty tiring.

"Hyunjung, do you want to meet my friends now?"

She nodded slowly. "Sure."

He grinned, taking her wrist and pulling her in the direction towards the air hockey table. What was it with him dragging her around today? She looked back at Taehyung and saw him standing there looking at them with an unreadable expression. She tried motioning him to come with them, but he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. That guy, seriously.

She then remembered she had forgotten to bring the coke Taehyung had given her. The last she saw of it was at the side next to the claw crane machine.

"Hey, you got that purple bunny from that game!"

"Yeah, Taehyung got it for me."

"That was nice of him." Jungkook let go of her wrist and looked behind her. "Where did he go?"

Hyunjung sighed, "He just walked off."

"Oh, alright." Jungkook said, leading her over to the air hockey table.

suddenly felt tight; she saw Jungkook's friends crowding round the table and she was so uneasy that it almost felt suffocating. Sure, she wanted to be friends with more people, but that didn't mean that they would want to be friends with her back.

"Don't worry, they don't bite." Jungkook assured, giving her a consoling smile. She took a deep breath and followed him.

"Guys, this is Hyunjung. You know, the one I said I'd introduce."

The five boys turned away from the table and looked at her. Hyunjung bowed and did the same. She recognized their faces, they were the ones that were always with Jungkook around school.

One of them waved at her. "Hey Hyunjung! I like you're, uh-- purple bunny!"

Jungkook stood next to her. "That's Hoseok."

"I already know his name, we're in the same class."

Hoseok face lit up. "Oh yeah... we are, aren't we?" His smile quickly turned to a frown. "Sorry that I never really noticed you."

"It's fine." Hyunjung said, bowing her head. Jungkook rubbed the back of his neck, giving looks to his other friends signalling them to help lighten the awkwardness between them. One of them tapped her on the head. She looked up and saw him giving her a sweet smile. "I'm Yoongi." He pointed to the guy next to him. "And that's Jin."

Jin waved at her, "Hi!"

"Hi," she replied timidly.

"So you're the one that Jungkook kept telling us about. I was wondering when he'd finally introduce you properly to us. But I already recognized you, wow what a small world we live in."

Hyunjung smiled at him, Jungkook seemed to have really companionable friends.

"Hi I'm Namjoon. You're in my chemistry class, right?" He grinned, making his dimples visible.

"Yeah, I think so."

He then pointed over at Jimin. "You probably already know him, but that's  Jimin. Otherwise known as the guy that clings around Jungkook because his own life is too boring and mundane."

Jimin overheard this and narrowed his eyes. "Excuse me, but I happen to have been in some pretty bad- situations myself."

Everyone stared at Jimin. Jimin stared back. "You don't believe me?"

Yoongi spoke up. "Nah, not really."

Despite everything, Hyunjung laughed lightly. They all looked at her and after a moment, laughed with her.

Yoongi nudged Jimin. "See, even Hyunjung agrees."

"Shut up, Yoongi."

Jungkook put some tokens into the token slot in the air hockey table, causing it to light up. "Guys! Let's play!"

"My turn!" Jimin said, running back to the table. He slipped in the process, causing him to drop his token bag onto the floor.

Namjoon looked down at him. "Yeah, unfortunately this is how exciting your life gets."

Jimin groaned and proceeded to pick up the scattered tokens. Hyunjung knelt down next to him and helped him. He turned his head to the side. "Thanks Hyunjung."

Yoongi sighed. "Come on guys, let's help too."

Hoseok glanced at the clock. "Time sure flies, it's already 4:40."

Hyunjung shot back up, looking at the time. It was already 4 o'clock? "I have to go home. My uncle told me be home by five."

Jungkook pouted at her. "Already? Is there any way for us to entice you to stay?"

"Sorry."

Jin waved goodbye to her. "We'll see you in school, Hyunjung!"

"Do you want me to walk you home?" Jungkook asked.

"I'll be fine, don't worry."

"Okay."

She waved goodbye to them, making sure she had everything. They waved back, grinning at her.

She reached the exit and looked through the window. "This is ridiculous. How can it still be raining?" She put her hood up, tucking her bunny on the inside of her coat.

"Are you planning on going home in the rain with no umbrella? Idiot."

She smiled to herself and turned her head. Taehyung was stood not far behind her, looking at Hyunjung with that same inexpressive look he always gave her.

Maybe she wasn't going to walk alone after all.
