Chapter 32

The Ring Bearer

"I had a dream about the next mage." I knew I was just changing the topic, and I knew they were aware of it; but I honestly didn't mind much. I would rather them be suspicious of a lie than let them show anger towards BAP, who seems like they genuinely wish to help. My words, however, caused for D.O. and a couple of the other mages to look at each other before turning to me, and I couldn't help but flinch at the hurt expression Tao sent my way.

"Let's go quickly, we don't want to waste any time." Joonmyun's voice was firm, and he nodded at me shortly as he turned and walked off with the other mages following him. Well, all of the mages except for Baekhyun.

His eyes narrowed for a moment as he looked at me, but then he shrugged and slowly turned away from me as he continued walking as well, "You better have a good reason to be hiding this from us."

What would I tell him? That I'm afraid the other mages would lose trust in me once I told them the truth about myself? That Joonmyun and Minseok had told me to keep my past a secret until the second leader joined our group? As I was thinking to myself, I hadn't realized Jongin had made his way back to me and held out his hand.

"You found me, took care of me, and protected me. I trust you more than anyone." I was a little skeptical about his words, since he was pretty close to D.O., but his eyes were gentle and his smile was sincere. Without another thought, I took his outstretched hand, and Jongin and I walked out of the house together, only to pause in front of the building with the other mages before us.

Joonmyun, who was holding the map, turned to Jongin and I before handing the map over to D.O. and walking over to where Jongin and I stood. His eyebrows furrowed as he glanced at our hands, but when he looked up at me, there was no trace of anything but his cautious smile.

"Do you know where it is we are heading to?"

I stared at him for a moment, because I forgot what it was that I had seen in my dream. Was I supposed to look for the mage hidden in the castle first, or the one I had seen at the Isle of Death? My silence caused for Joonmyun to grow suspicious, and the other mages turned to us as they waited for orders.

Without answering, I walked up to D.O., who hadn't even turned to me, and I slowly pulled the map out of his hands. He was surprised that I went all the way over to him for the map, but I was busy trying to read the map and our next destination. There were two markers left blank, but I noticed something odd. There was one marker over the Isle of Death, of course, but there wasn't a marker over my castle. The last marker was far away from my castle, seemingly in the middle of nowhere.

"That's odd." I couldn't help but frown, as it was all very confusing. If the marker was in the middle of nowhere, how come I had the nightmare showing the mage to be found in the castle? Was I being tricked by my mind? Was I missing something important?

"What's wrong?" Chanyeol was looking at the map over my shoulder, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he waited for me to answer.

I couldn't answer because I didn't know the answer. It was beginning to frustrate me, the fact that I really didn't know what I was doing when it came to the mages and how to free them. With a light groan of annoyance, I held the map out to D.O. once more, but the mage of earth didn't even attempt to take it, so in the end, I was the one tasked with leading us.

"Where are we going?" Chen asked loudly, and when no one answered him, I remembered I was the only one who actually knew.

"The Isle of Death. We're going after the mage of telekinesis."

As soon as I let the words escape my lips, Sehun rammed his way through the other mages and was holding onto my shoulders with a gleam of excitement in his eyes, "We're going to find Luhan? We're going to find Luhan!"

With that, Sehun ran off to where Joonmyun, Minseok, and Yixing were conversing in the back. I turned my head slowly to watch him, a fond smile on my lips, but I couldn't help but notice the disappointed expression on Tao's face.

"That means no Kris hyung, right?" he tried to smile, but it seemed forced; and as I tried to answer, the name he said finally clicked.

They all warned me about Kris before, and Kris was the one I had seen in my nightmares. Why was it Kris that I saw in my nightmares? Why did he warned me, pushed me away, and attempted to kill me? Who was this Kris and what did he want from me?

"We know this place." Minseok muttered, and he pulled forward to look down at the map, "The Isle of Death is where they turned us into mages, and even worse, into their slaves."

"That means I can take us there." Jongin didn't sound very pleased as he spoke, but when the elder mages nodded, he held out his hands, and the rest of the mages latched onto him.

When we had gotten to the Isle of Death, we stopped and stared, because the Isle of Death wasn't resting on water or even on the ground, but floating several meters above us.

"What a show off." D.O.'s voice was amused as he scoffed, his arms crossed over his chest as he watched the floating isle shift around in the air.

I took a couple of steps forward, because I knew that in my dream, I had used D.O.'s power of earth in order to create a staircase leading to the flat surface of the isle. Just as I was about to call for the power, however, someone pulled me back.

"It's dangerous up there." Yixing's voice was wavering in fear, and I wished I knew of a way to reassure him that we'd all be fine; but after what they told me of us all dying together, I knew my words would have no affect.

Slowly, I took his hand off my arm and squeezed it, because I knew nothing I could say would appease their hearts. Their fear would not stop me from doing what I promised to do, and they knew that as they backed away.

I looked up at the Isle of Death, and it looked pretty damn deadly, but I was ready to get up there; and when the ground shook and a staircase was built on top of it to reach the isle, I was ready for it.

"Let's go, before it gets dark." Joonmyun was the first to ascend the staircase, and Minseok followed closely behind him. Quickly, the other mages ran off after the pair and left me behind with the map clutched in my hand. I trailed after them slowly, the stairs disappearing one by one as my feet lifted off of them.

There was a temple on the top of the isle, though it was further in and the other mages had already walked into it. There were drawings on the ground, what I figured were magic circles for outdoor rituals, and as I walked into the temple, I felt the strange sense that I was home again. It made sense, since my ancestors came from this place, but I didn't feel at peace when remembering what this temple stood for. When I entered the temple to meet up with the other mages, I noticed all the lab equipment sitting around.

My heart felt heavy. This really was the place that my mages had been brought to so their lives could be ripped away from them. I had the urge to push all of the equipment off the floating island, but I had something more important to tend to. The mages were all in the center of the temple, surrounding a small podium on which the eleventh mage's ring box was resting. Their shoulders were raised and their bodies were tensed, and I couldn't blame them. There was a see through chamber on one side of the room, and I swear I could see a couple of corpses in it, too.

"Yun Seung, get Luhan so we can leave this place. Please." Tao's voice was wavering like Yixing's was earlier, and I nodded as the group of them parted to let me through.

I opened the ring box, and sitting there was a silver ring with what seemed to be an orb symbol sitting at its center. I hurriedly pushed it onto my right hand's thumb and shut my eyes, only opening them when I heard Sehun's excited voice.

"Luhan!" Sehun actually ran forward and had himself wrapped around the new mage immediately, and the innocent eyed blonde haired male smiled widely as he hugged back.

"Sehun-ah." He even kissed Sehun's hair, and after Sehun sobbed for a few moments, Luhan pulled back and wiped his face dry of any tears, "Why are you crying when I'm right here?"

"Luhan." Minseok's voice cut into their moment, and though I would have rather let the two talk amongst themselves to catch up after years of being separated, Luhan looked over at Minseok immediately, "Can you bring this back to the water?"

Luhan's face tightened at the question, and though he nodded, his voice didn't make him sound like he agreed with the order completely, "I'll do as you say, Min; but the second this island gets back onto the water, the guards are going to come looking for us."

"Guards? What do you mean?"

Hearing me speak, Luhan turned his head to me and his eyebrows furrowed for a few moments before he smiled and bowed his head.

"You must be our master."

Well, it didn't seem like he hated me. It was a nice break after D.O. When I didn't answer, he looked up at me again and waved a hand in the air.

"They have this place bugged. The only way I could be awakened and have this land back onto the water would be if a master found me. They'll be here after us, after you, as soon as we get down to the water."

Guards? Did that mean people that worked for my ancestors would be coming for us? Would they take us to my ancestors, or would they kill us immediately? I wasn't sure, but I knew I couldn't be caught until after we found the next mage, Kris.

I looked over to Joonmyun, who was staring back at me with his eyes hardened and his hands clenched into fists, "They'll kill us if we're found here."

"Keep the island up in the air. You'll get out of here before they can spot us." My voice was never this sure and confident, and as the mages stared at me in confusion, I ran to the edge of the isle and the staircase was formed again.

"'You'll'? What are you planning to do?" Baekhyun grabbed me by the arm and wouldn't let go when I tried to shake him off.

I looked past Baekhyun to Jongin, who was standing beside D.O. and giving me an unreadable look, "As soon as you're off this isle, teleport everyone back to the house."

"What are you planning?" D.O.'s voice wasn't angry but hesitant, worried almost.

"I'm going down with the isle." I answered, and then I was walking back to the center of the temple with Baekhyun finally letting go.

No one answered at first, and then someone was sighing, and I stopped walking to look over at Joonmyun. He was shaking his head as he looked at me, possibly asking me to change my mind, "If they find you, they'll kill you. They'll kill all of us."

"No they won't, Joonmyun, and you know that." Finally, Baekhyun and D.O. started climbing down the stairs, causing for a couple of the other mages to look at me once more before allowing themselves to follow.

"I'm their descendant."
