[16]
Endless LimitsJieun's POV
When I open my eyes, I'm 16 again.
It's my day alone.
Well, except for dad in his office.
But he doesn't know I'm home.
I'm supposed to be at school.
Psh.
Yeah, right.
I finger the watch on my wrist and smile sadly.
My life is going wrong in so many ways.
I'm such a idiot.
I should stop hoping.
Stop forgiving.
But love is hard to control.
And that's why I need a rest day.
If Kai and Ryeowook oppa find out, I'm dead.
Ssh!
I want to surprise dad.
His smile makes me feel better.
I tiptoe silently and put my ear to his door.
I can hear murmuring.
He's probably singing to himself.
I push open the door.
And time stops.
I don't think I'll ever forget this moment.
My dad, kissing a woman.
But the woman isn't my mom.
I must've made some sound, some movement, something.
My dad pauses and looks up.
He freezes when he sees me.
"Eun-"
I shake my head frantically.
This isn't happening.
It can't be happening.
The woman hurries out.
Me and my dad.
Alone.
My dad comes towards me, pleading.
"Ji-Eun, I can explain."
His hand touches my shoulder.
I slap it away.
"Don't touch me. Don't say anything."
He looks wounded.
"Ji- Eun, I swear-"
"You disgust me."
The words are out.
They hang there, foul, stinging, poisonous.
He flinches.
I don't care.
"I trusted you. After everything I went through with him. With Chan Jin."
He's hurt.
Good.
I won't let myself stop.
"It's not like that, Ji-Eun."
"I hate you."
Everything I've said until now doesn't matter.
I could've taken back.
But not this.
I should've heard him out.
I should've let him explain.
But instead I choose to make the biggest mistake of my life.
I turn on my heel and run, full speed, away.
Down the stairs.
Out the door.
Across the lawn.
Into the street.
I can hear it before I see it.
The honking.
The screech of the tires.
And I can feel it before I register it.
The push.
The land.
The chilling thud.
The road is dark red where the blood is seeping.
Aside from the big gash across his head, my dad looks strangely peaceful.
I hear yells.
My brothers.
They missed the school bus.
They saw the whole thing.
And they know exactly who to blame.
