Prologue

    Baekhyun had not thought about Death.

    He had not thought about what it meant or even the finality of it. Why should he? He was young, barely even sixteen. Baekhyun was just a high schooler with rebelliously dyed red hair and soft, smirking mouth from which all manner of cynical remarks came. Baekhyun was small compared to many of the tall, muscular boys in his school. Feminie in comparasion. He was wispy. A small boy with a slim boy and expressive eyes. Baekhyun was not popular in his school by any means. He wasn't good enough at anything to be popular or wanted. He prefered- or rather forced to - having a small selection of friends and many, many people who thought him odd enough to bully. 

      He supposed it was a combination of all those qualities that killed him. 

      Baekhyun stood in the woods, hand braced against a tall tree. It soared into the sky, leaves turning red and falling like the hundreds that surrounded it. Shivering, he took out his phone and flicked it on to check the tie. 6:05 the screen said. Baekhyun angrily turned the phone off, jamming it back into his coat pocket. 

       He isn't coming....the idiot. HE was the one who wanted to meet. 

       A blast of the chilling autumn wind rashed through the forest. Baekhyun pulled his blue stripped scarf closer to himself. The tempature was dropping rapidly as the sun sank lower in the sky. Baekhyun sighed. He had been waiting since 3:00. If Chanyeol wasn't here, he wasn't coming at all. 

     A tear formed in the corner of his eye. Baekhyun wiped it away before it fell. How dare he not show up? Was Baekhyun really that forgettable? That worthless to Chanyeol? Pushing off the tree, Baekhyun turned to go home. 

     A shadow fall across him. 

     Baekhyun stopped. He turned around, half expecting it to be a remorseful giant of a friend. Just a friend. His shoulders sank a bit when he saw it was. Still, he recognized the figure standing a few feet from him. Baekhyun didn't want to, but he waved. 

      "Hi," he whispered, not really wanting their bull right now. "I was just going home."

      Baekhyun had not thought about Death. 

      The figure had.

      Baekhyun began walking up the hill and towards the bridge that laid over the old mill river. This time of year the water wasn't frozen quite yet. It was still running, a freezing stream of water with chunks of ice floating down it. The town was across the bridge and through another small patch of woods. Baekhyun tried to imagine would he would do when he got him. He doubted he would call Chanyeol. Maybe the idiot would call him. If he didn't, school would be as awkward and heartbreaking as Hell tomorrow. 

      SNAP! 

      Baekhyun glanced over his should. The figure was following him. "Are you going home too?" he asked. It shook its head slowly, eyes trained on him. Fear coiled in Baekhyun's stomach. It twisted and bit at his mind, screaming for him to run. The cold ran through him until he felt frozen in place with fear. 

     That fear grew stronger as the figure walked faster to overtake him. Their footsteps were determind, their walk agressive. The air rushed out of Baekhyun's lungs. He was trotting now, hurrying to get away before the figure caught up to him. 

       "Is something wrong Baekhyun?" they asked softly. Darkness lurked in that voice. Baekhyun felt a tear roll down his face. He had heard the darkness many times, but he never thought it would effect him this much. The figure's mask had fallen, revealing a monster Baekhyun had only jokingly thought existed. 

      Baekhyun had not thought about Death, but he knew he wanted to live. 

      I'm not getting out of here alive.....

      Baekhyun dropped his backpack and ran. 

      Death had come. 

  Hello everyone! Thank you all for checking out my story :) This is a story based off of my previously written one shot "Ghost House," serving as a prequel/alternative point of view/sequel. "The Unusual Afterlife of Byun Baekhyun" is my third multichaptered story, and I am trying to improve my plot and character writing skills with this.
