ooo9 — 2Jae

GOT7 Drabbles and Oneshots

Title: Simply Special

Pairing: 2Jae

Genre: Fluff (yey!)

Description: Jaebum found something not so special that had gradually became his most precious treasure.

This is based from the song Obvious by Westlife, requested once again by kimminah89. Sorry if this took too long, I'm a born procrastrinator and I'm proud. LOL. Also, I Just made this last night so this is lame, I'm sorry. For everything. Errors, grammars and such.

2Jae1

We started as friends

Everyone would say that Jaebum and Youngjae's meeting was plain, nothing special. There were no sparks, no love at first sight. There was just him and Youngjae.

Jaebum was in his junior year as a film major while Youngjae was a sophomore, music major. It was autumn, signifying their second semester. Their sections collaborated for their school's annual foundation week as they planned to make a musical. Youngjae, being the representative of their class, sought for Jaebum, the representative of his own. It was formal, the way Youngjae had spoken.

"Good morning, is Im Jaebum-ssi in this class?"

Jaebum, expecting it, excused himself from his friends and walked towards Youngjae who merely stayed at the entrance. He had been just as civil that time, too.

"I'm Jaebum. About the play, right?"

When Youngjae had nodded as a response, Jaebum thought he was cute. And he was unable to resist the urge to grin affectionately and ruffle the younger's raven hair. But it was all a friendly gesture, as all Jaebum could see was a lowerclassman that kind of resembled a bunny in his eyes.

It was the start of their friendship. During work, they talked professionally about their project. But outside, when they had lunches together— or occasionally, even dinner— Jaebum learned everything that was Choi Youngjae. How he was from Jeollado, Mokpo. That his passion for singing pushed him to leave his hometown, the place he had grown up in, and explore the unknown territories of Seoul. Now, he was at the top of his class and JYP was waiting for him, a big future was already waiting for him.

Jaebum really admired Youngjae's bravery. When before, Youngjae was just an adorable hoobae, now Jaebum saw him as an admirable brave youth with a story.

But something happened inside me

Jaebum doesn't even know when it started. Maybe on the thirtieth lunch or the fifth dinner, but Youngjae became something that was engraved in his mind, a permanence in his daily life. He was so used to Youngjae's presence that he even feared the moment when the time of their play was only two days away. That he and Youngjae would be back to being strangers after everything.

So instead of being comforted by the thought of less worries, he wanted to prolong everything just to have more lunches with Youngjae. Of course he didn't know how to express his thoughts to the male. Aside form being prideful and all, Jaebum doesn't know how to say it and he didn't even know why he was feeling that way.

The evening before their play, the two of them were the only ones left to check on the set. They stood on the stage and Jaebum coughed, but it did not caught Youngjae's attention that was on the microphones. Jaebum sighed internally, feeling defeated already when nothing had even happened yet.

"Jaebum-hyung,"

Jaebum's eyes widened and his head snapped to Youngjae's direction too fast his vision dimmed for a moment but he didn't care, he was too startled. Youngjae had his eyes on the audience's chairs, gaze a bit lidded. "Can we still stay as friends even after the play?"

Jaebum's stomach felt weird, like a circus was on it while he could feel a band march in his chest. It wasn't really an unfamiliar sensation, he had felt it before. But he pushed the thought away, letting the relief that he didn't have to be the one asking overtake instead. He grinned when Youngjae met his stare.

"Yes. We will still be friends after all this."

The dead leaves varied in pretty reds and oranges, falling from the lines of trees in their campus like it was raining fire. Jaebum was on his way to his class when he paused and looked up to appreciate the cloudiness of the sky, as well as the windiness of the day. The cool breeze blew his brown scarf delicately, making it dance in the air.

It was nearing winter, Jaebum's favorite season and a smile blossomed on his face. He thought of the way Youngjae's pale cheeks colored an alluring shade of pink as a reaction to the cold, and Jaebum realized that he favored the blush of the younger than the shades of crimson autumn has to offer. He bit his lip bashfully. Youngjae wasn't even beside him but he couldn't help but imagine the boy, eyes in crescents as he smiled his signature smile that made Jaebum's heart melt every single time.

The autumn also marked their year-long friendship. And his year-long crush.

Jaebum admitted it to himself when finally, the signs were hard to ignore anymore.

Now I'm reading into everything

There's no sign you really like me, baby

Every Friday and Saturday night, they had an unspoken tradition to have phone calls that Jaebum could never end, resulting to them falling asleep with the call still on since Youngjae refused to hang up first, too (much to Jaebum's giddiness). Usually it was Youngjae who would doze off first, his labored breathing and sometimes sleep-singing serving as Jaebum's lullaby. Even in the long run, it never failed to make Jaebum sleep smiling. But to Youngjae, they simply meant that Jaebum was just feeling alone and wanted someone to talk to.

The boy just never seemed to notice his extra bright smiles, the way his face would especially light up whenever Youngjae was around.

Youngjae never noticed how hard he tried to showcase aegyo, making sure to give his famous eyesmile that even rivaled Youngjae's.

Youngjae never even took note of the intensity of his stare whenever he shared stories or random things, how Jaebum paid attention to the smallest details, especially the movements of the younger's lips.

His first and last thought everyday was Youngjae, but Youngjae would never know. He never even noticed.

I've made it obvious

Jaebum already did everything. He deliberately tried to get caught staring at Youngjae, intentionally tried to look more presentable whenever he knew they would meet.

He would even be straightforward at times.

"Youngjae,"

Youngjae peeled away his focus from writing lyrics to Jaebum. "Yeah?"

"Go out with me." Jaebum managed to say with a straight face, half serious and half in a carefree manner. Jaebum could always retort a 'literally go out, stupid!' if ever Youngjae declined anyway. But Jaebum couldn't help but hope that Youngjae would understand what he really wanted to say.

Youngjae blinked, before nodding. His eyes avoided Jaebum. "Okay then, let's go out. It's getting too noisy here anyway."

Jaebum had never wanted to cry as much as he did now, not taking note of how the library was too silent.

He got nothing from it.

Youngjae does not even notice how Jaebum would pop out of nowhere in places he wasn't supposed to be, like the music room, just because Youngjae was there.

Youngjae thought that everything was only a coincidence.

Maybe Jaebum should try something else?

Youngjae loved singing, obviously. But... wait. Should I write him a song?

Jaebum actually found the idea appealing, since he has been told that he have a quite beautiful voice himself. The problem was, he didn't know how or where to start. And the first person that he thought of asking for help was Youngjae himself.

"Hey," Jaebum called out one noon they were together. It was December and Youngjae was finishing a song he needed to submit the next day. Jaebum saw it as an opportunity to ask. "How do you write a song?"

The question caught Youngjae's interest and he lowered his pencil as he stared off in the distance, thinking thoughtfully. He hummed when he came up with a proper reply. "Well, I just translate my feelings into words then practically jot everything I wanted to."

"Ah," Jaebum nodded in understanding, memorizing Youngjae's advice. In curiosity, he glanced down at Youngjae's music notebook and his crinkly eyes broadened when he saw that it was a love song. Youngjae noticed too late but regardless, he closed his book, flustered.

"This is... uhh..."

"A love song? You mean... you're in love?"

Youngjae turned redder than possible and Jaebum was amused at the same time, albeit disappointed.

"Actually, yes."

Jaebum's heart dropped. "Oh."

Silence ensued, but if before it was comfortable, this time was different. The atmosphere felt heavy for some reason. Youngjae seemed to notice too, his eyes fitting into anywhere but Jaebum while Jaebum's remained downcast. Youngjae was thinking so hard to come up with anything, anything to say, just...

"H-Hyung, you know, I want to be w-with someone like y-you."

Jaebum felt his heart pump with life at the words, it was as if Youngjae was giving him a chance. He lifted his eyes to Youngjae and couldn't prevent his lips from curving up as he pat the other's head.

It was helpful, and with that memory as well as all of the memorable recollections Jaebum had with Youngjae, Jaebum's fingers and pen moved on its own.

I done everything but sing it

I've crushed on you so long

But on and on you get me wrong

I'm not so good with words

And since you never noticed

The way that we belong

I'll say it in a love song

"Youngjae,"

Youngjae's visage was morphed into shock when he turned to Jaebum who was holding a guitar, walking towards his place on one of their campus' benches. Only a few students were loitering around and Jaebum was thankful, since it would be his first time doing such a thing.

"Jaebum-hyung?" Youngjae's voice was a tad breathless, almost like a whisper, unbelieving that Jaebum was kneeling in front of him. The sound managed to sooth some of Jaebum's nerves as he tucked the acoustic guitar in place. He shut his eyes, inhaling and exhaling slowly as he began.

I've made it obvious

So finally I'll sing it

I've crushed on you so long

Oh yeah

Wo ohh

I'm not so good with words

Since you never noticed

The way that we belong

I'll say it in a love song

The love song, I'll sing it until the day you're holding me

Ooh

I've wanted you so long but on and on you get me wrong

Ooh yeah

I more than adore you but since you never seem to see

Since you never seem to see

I'll say it in this love song

The final note was strummed in the air and Jaebum tightly held on the instrument, treating it like a lifeline as he stared straight at Youngjae. His whole being was in chaos and he was pretty sure that the whole student population could hear his heartbeat.

Youngjae's lower lip trembled and a few tears were released before he was laughing, catching Jaebum off guard. Jaebum flushed. "H-Hey, stop laughing!" But Youngjae continued, ignoring his command. A full minute passed before Youngjae's chortles died.

"Did you know how hard it was for me?"

Jaebum's brows furrowed in confusion, while Youngjae had a faraway look.

"Whenever you thought I never notice how you would stare at me, when you would keep our phone conversations going, when you asked me to go out with you— everything. I tried my hardest not to give meaning to everything.

I'm afraid. What if I was the only one thinking that it has a meaning? What if I've just misread everything? Falling in love was a scary thing."

"But you're falling in love with me. You're going to have no problem." Jaebum winked, acting cocky but in truth, he was in cloud nine at the confession.

This... this is perfection.

Youngjae chuckled.

"Fine then, Im Jaebum-ssi."

"Is that a yes?"

Jaebum was granted by that eyesmile that was matched by a wide genuine grin.

"Yes."

Their meeting might not be special, Youngjae may have read the signals wrong, and Jaebum may be bad in expressing his love, but in all, it doesn't matter. What counted most was that there were the two of them and now, their feelings.

Just them, in their own world.
