Chapter 9

Don't Leave

“Can we do it later? I’m kinda hungry right now.” Sooyoung muttered quietly, trying to avoid Taeyeon’s eyes. Although the shikshin was known for loving food more than her life, Taeyeon knows she was her top priority and she felt that Sooyoung would give up all the food in the world for her. But right now that was not the case. It seemed so silly being insecure about food but Taeyeon couldn’t help it. It was a big issue for her no matter how shallow it was.

The leader sighed loudly and said, “At least let me cook for you.” Sooyoung, not wanting to argue at the moment, nodded her head and stepped out of the way. This made Taeyeon’s hopes leap a bit. Sooyoung wasn’t difficult to deal with but she sensed that the taller girl is keeping her distance.

The younger girl sat at the kitchen table watching the other girl prepare her food. Taeyeon can feel Sooyoung’s eyes on her and for some reason she felt nervous. But she shook the feeling off and concentrated on whatever she was doing.

After like a lifetime of awkward silence, Taeyeon couldn’t take it anymore. She was hoping that Sooyoung would talk to her but the taller girl didn’t even utter a word. She only heard long sighs, soft clinks at the table, tongue clicks and that’s it. Taeyeon throws stolen glances then and again but Sooyoung wasn’t even looking at her. The taller girl had her head on the table and the soshi leader wasn’t even sure if the girl was acknowledging her presence.

Taeyeon cleared loudly, trying to get Sooyoung’s attention. When she didn’t get any reaction from the girl, she swallowed her pride and said shakily, “Syoung?” The taller girl didn’t give any sign of noticing. Taeyeon thought the shikshin was ignoring her so she didn’t dare talk again. The rejection was too much.

The shorter girl finished cooking the meal and she placed the food on the table. Still, Sooyoung didn’t budge. Curious, Taeyeon rounded the table and saw the girl was sleeping soundly. A smile was formed on her face. She missed watching Sooyoung sleep especially when the girl will fall asleep in her arms.

Taeyeon lightly brushed some stray hair blocking Sooyoung’s adorable face. She sighed and thought how much she would give to do this every day. Cook for Sooyoung, watch her eat, go to sleep with her, and wake up to the person she loves the most in the world.

She didn’t realize she was spacing out until Sooyoung lifted her head from the table and saw Taeyeon above her. She sat up quickly and averted her gaze somewhere, not wanting to talk to the leader. Sooyoung saw the food and immediately dug in. In her mind, she just wants to get this over with so she could go back to her room peacefully without dealing with Taeyeon. She doesn’t know why but she’s not in the mood to talk at all.

The Soshi leader sensed that Sooyoung isn’t up for any kind of discussion so she said in defeat, “Eat your food slowly. I’m going okay?” Sooyoung stopped her ministrations and watched as the shorter girl grab some food and head back to her respective room.

After the girl was out of sight she dropped the utensils and placed her head back to the table, banging it for feeling stupid.

After the little incident in the kitchen, the SooTae couple hadn’t interacted at all unless it was necessary. Taeyeon got tired of the rejection the taller girl was giving her and Sooyoung was just plain upset that the TaeNy fake couple is going strong. She just can’t bring herself to talk to Taeyeon after seeing them all gooey and flirty in public. C’mon, she’s also a girl and she gets real emotional.

“Seems like you two haven’t made up yet.” Sunny said suddenly during a press conference.

“Are we seriously going to talk about this now?” Taeyeon asked annoyed but she didn’t show it. She kept smiling because of the goddamn cameras taking every move they make. Sunny shrugged and looked like she wasn’t in a conversation with Taeyeon. The two both waved at the cameras still smiling while continuing their talk. “When can we talk about this? You told me you’re going to get her back!”

Taeyeon tried all her might not to roll her eyes. “I did~! She doesn’t wanna talk to me okay? And you know that I hate rejection.”

“Then try again!” Sunny backfired. “Or someone might snatch her away.” With that, Sunny made her way to the table leaving Taeyeon standing in front of the press confused. What did Sunny mean?

Just then, she looked at Sooyoung’s direction, trying to see if Sunny was trying to tell her something. Then she saw her girlfriend interacting with the fans while hugging Hyoyeon from behind. The two were goofing off and if Sooyoung and her were okay, she wouldn’t mind it but there’s something going on right now that she doesn’t like.

The HyoYoung couple. They’re known for their goofiness and they make everyone laugh without effort. Tonight, something’s different between them.

Is it just me or they’ve gone too close?Taeyeon asked herself as she watched the two being unnaturally and unusually touchy. They’ve never been that way before. Not much in public at least. What is happening? She pushed her thoughts aside as she felt a hand grab her and it’s not a shock that it was Tiffany’s.

“What are you still doing standing there? We should get to our table.” Tiffany whispered as she towed Taeyeon to their table.

The Soshi leader was too lost in her thoughts that she didn’t realize she wasn’t looking really cheerful anymore. “Hey, you okay?” She heard someone ask behind her. “You know, people are dying to see you smile and I’m one of them.” She didn’t need to turn around to recognize the voice. Her face automatically lit up and she acknowledges the camera men and the fans in front of them as she smiled broadly.

“Aigoo… I thought this day won’t end. I’m so tired” Hyoyeon whined as the girls filed inside their dorm. “Who wouldn’t get tired after being all hyper like that?” Sooyoung replied while she entered the room.

“Hey, you were hyper too.” The dancing queen let herself fall in the sofa and sat limply. The shikshin sat beside her as well, placing both of her feet to Hyoyeon’s lap. Little did she know that she was being observed by Taeyeon who was removing her shoes near the front door.

Taeyeon’s attention was now on her shoes because she can’t seem to get them off. “Ugh what’s wrong with this thing?” She mumbled to herself. Beside her was Tiffany who looked so tired, she didn’t want to bother the girl but all the other members were inside already and she didn’t want to call them just because she can’t get her shoes off.

“Fany~ah, can you---?” She hasn’t even finished her sentence yet when Tiffany turned her back and headed to her own bedroom. The leader let out a loud sigh out of frustration and tiredness. She still tried to fumble with the shoes but her hands were already hurting and her nails will get broken if she did more.

Just as she was about to give up, she saw two hands working their way through her shoes. She looked up and saw her girlfriend trying to help her get rid of the damn thing. Taeyeon felt electricity shot through her for the first time in days. It made her feel alive… and loved.

Because of that simple gesture, she remembered why she was with Sooyoung. She felt stupid for not getting her girl back sooner. She regretted thinking of ending things with this amazing and wonderful person who was coming to her rescue even though she didn’t call her. No other person ever did this for her before, well maybe except for her parents, but they’re not counted. She smiled despite herself and Sooyoung noticed it.

“What are you smiling about?” The taller girl asked when she noticed Taeyeon smiling absentmindedly. “I was just thinking about stuff.” The shorter girl responded.

“I’m thinking too.” Sooyoung said.

“What is it?”

“That these shoes . You shouldn’t wear them anymore. They don’t even look good on you. I probably should get you a new one.”

Taeyeon’s smile broadened. No one will replace Sooyoung. No one is as good as Sooyoung. Nobody loves her like Sooyoung. And she will love nobody but Sooyoung.

She just hopes Sooyoung feels the same way.

“There, all done.” The younger girl breathed out in relief. Her hands were red after her struggle with the damn shoes. Her eyes met Taeyeon’s, which was observing her and she couldn’t believe how she missed being under the spell of those cute round eyes. She was so caught up by their staring contest that she didn’t realize she was holding her breath for such a long time.

Sooyoung cleared and directed her gaze from the shoes, trying to make Taeyeon to do the same. “Y-your shoes…” She started. The leader was unfazed. She still kept on staring at Sooyoung which the taller girl didn’t fail to notice.

“Stop staring.”

“Why?”

“I’m getting conscious.” Actually she meant nervous. She doesn’t why her heart was beating this fast, as If she was anticipating a move from her girlfriend.

“You never felt that way before.” Taeyeon tried to hide the disappointment in her voice. What if Sooyoung’s feelings had changed? What will she do?

“Aren’t you tired yet? You should go to your room now.” Sooyoung stalled, trying to change the subject.

“Why are you making me go? Don’t you want to spend time with me?” The leader asked.

Sooyoung slowly lifted her head to meet Taeyeon’s eyes. When she did, her hear doubled its speed which she didn’t think to be possible.

“I… uh…” The shikshin’s mind went blank as she noticed that Taeyeon’s face was only inches away from hers. Her eyes automatically glued to the leader’s lips, and when she realized what she was doing, she flicked her eyes back to meet her girlfriend’s.

Sooyoung could feel every breath Taeyeon was making. That’s how close they were. She closed her eyes, anticipating whatever the shorter girl will do.

But it never came.

Instead, she felt a hot breath in her ear that said, “Jalja Syoungie.” Her breath hitched at the sound and feel of Taeyeon’s voice, like she was seducing her.

At that moment, Taeyeon stood up leaving Sooyoung hot and bothered, which she didn’t intend to do. The leader was stopped on her tracks when she felt a hand grab her from behind like what Tiffany did earlier. This hand was soft, loving, warm, and familiar. This is the hand she would like to hold onto forever.

Taeyeon turned back and saw Sooyoung staring at her. The taller girl was biting her lip, hesitant maybe of what she was about to say or do. The leader patiently waited, trying to read what Sooyoung will do next.

Sooyoung didn’t plan on what she’s going to do when she pulled Taeyeon back. She didn’t think thing through, she should’ve thought more on what to say but she felt that the moment will be gone and this will be a rare opportunity so she took it. Whatever happens, she’s not going to let Taeyeon go. Now that she’s sure that she’s the only one who could take care of her.

Strong arms enveloped Taeyeon ever so quickly. She could feel the rise and fall of Sooyoung’s chest, the familiar smell of her body, and the warmth emitting from her slowly transferring to her body as well. She missed this. Both of them did.

“I miss you so much.” Sooyoung whispered in Taeyeon’s hair as she peppered the shorter girl’s head with small kisses. Taeyeon giggled at the gesture. “I miss you more.” Sooyoung tightened her hold on Taeyeon more before she pulled away to look into the other girl’s eyes.

“I’m so sorry.”

Taeyeon flashed a tight-lipped smile. “I’m sorry too.” Sooyoung smiled sadly. She unconsciously tucked her stray hair to her ears. “You always do that when you’re uncomfortable or nervous.” Taeyeon said, pointing out the taller girl’s habit. Sooyoung’s eyes widened a bit.

“So what is it? Are you nervous or uncomfortable?” The leader didn’t get a response. “Are you uncomfortable right now?”

“No.” Sooyoung muttered.

“No? Then you’re nervous.” Taeyeon said while searching her girlfriend’s face. “Why?”

“Nothing… It’s just…” Sooyoung started but she can’t seem to finish whatever she wanted to say.

“Yes?” Taeyeon encouraged her to go on.

“I’m… really… trying hard not to get jealous of you and Tiffany but… I just can’t…” Sooyoung said trying to hold back the tears. “I’m really sorry Taeng… If you want to break up with me because of that and because I’m immature then…”

Sooyoung’s rambling was stopped when a pair of warm lips landed softly on her own. Her eyes shot wide but she instantly closed it again and let herself get lost in the kiss. God, she freaking missed this.

After like an eternity, Taeyeon pulled back, cheeks flushed and deeply blushing. It was Sooyoung who broke the silence. “Does this mean….”

“I’m not breaking up with you. I won’t. Ever.” Taeyeon said with confidence.

With that, Sooyoung smiled broadly and lifted her girlfriend up, who squealed in surprise. “Where are you taking me?” Taeyeon said between laughs.

“To my bedroom silly.” Sooyoung said as if it was obvious.

“But Sica is there.”

“I’ll make her leave.”

“She won’t like it.”

“Yeah well, who cares? We have better things to talk about.”

“I know.”

“I love you Kim Taeyeon.”

“I love you too Choi Sooyoung.”

The two smiled at each other.

“Now let’s get Jessica out of our bedroom.”
