Chapter 6

Don't Leave

All mistakes are mine.

“NO!” Taeyeon jumped out of her seat from what their manager said. She shook her head violently and said, “No oppa. Please! Anything but that. I can’t. Please.”

Their manager can see the begging in her talent’s eyes and he couldn’t help but feel bad for the girl. His heart wasn’t cold and of course, he loves the girls so much. He knows everything about them despite their number. And he knows that Sooyoung and Taeyeon are very much in love. This is going to be harder for him than for the couple.

“What do you propose I should do Taeng? The bosses said that they want to see the two of you hang out with the other members more.”

“But we do hang out with the others more! I don’t what they see!” Taeyeon said trying hard not to lose her patience. She managed to keep calm and took a deep breath. “We can do that. I’ll talk to Sooyoung and she’ll understand.” Taeyeon said almost desperately.

“I know she would Taeng but there’s another problem.” Their manager said in a low voice.

“What?” What now? Taeyeon thought. This shouldn’t be happening. What else is there to ruin their relationship?

“There was a survey done by the company about you know… your uhhh.. pairings.” Taeyeon scrunched up her eyebrows, trying to digest every word their manager was saying. “And your fans voted for it and the company wishes to grant the fans desires.”

“What do you mean oppa? Which pairings are you talking about?” Taeyeon of course knew about the pairings. It has been a kind of fad for the fans which they have been all laughing about secretly at the dorm. She also knew that Sooyoung and her’s pairing wasn’t popular and if there was a voting that went on, she knew they would lose.

“The fans wanted you to pair with Tiffany. Apparently, you two are the most popular after YoonYul.” Taeyeon wasn’t shocked to know about this. She and Tiffany are good friends and she feels at ease with her but she wants nothing more than to be with her girlfriend.

If this was a normal case, she would be happy to be paired with Tiffany. But lately she noticed how Sooyoung developed this thing about getting jealous easily, especially over Tiffany, which the leader had no idea why.

“So I want you to spend more time with Tiffany outside and every time you people are out in public. I’m not saying you won’t interact with the other members as well but, try to be extra friendly with Tiffany. You know how that goes right?” Taeyeon sighed defeated. She doesn’t want to do it, but she doesn’t have any other choice. I hate fan service. She thought to herself.

“It’s either this or break up with Sooyoung right?” Taeyeon asked their manager, trying to make up her mind. The man nodded. Of course the leader would choose to pair with Tiffany more. The fans and their bosses wouldn’t know anyway. And she could spend all the time at their dorm with Sooyoung. She just hopes that her girlfriend would take the news well.

“So that’s what he said.” Taeyeon relayed to her girlfriend after the two had their alone time. She watched the different reactions that played on Sooyoung’s face while she was telling her the order of their manager. There were some violent reactions on the part that they have to break up and stuff but somehow, the shikshin stayed calm.

“It’s a silly idea to break us up for that. I mean c’mon, are they stupid or something?” Sooyoung said through gritted teeth. She found the whole thing pointless and they always try to do fan service like their Super Junior oppas but this was the first time that there was an official order.

The taller girl sighed loudly as Taeyeon rubbed her back soothingly. “Don’t worry too much Syoung. It’s just an act, right?”

Despite the obvious pout in her face, Sooyoung nodded and buried herself in the crook of Taeyeon’s neck. Her girlfriend giggled slightly and they continued cuddling with each other on the bed. The shorter girl can still feel the uneasiness emitting from her girlfriend so she began to worry a little.

“What’s wrong baby?” She asked. Taeyeon purposely put the term of endearment because she knows that this usually works to cheer up Sooyoung.

“What is wrong with Sone’s? I mean, why is our pairing not popular?” The younger girl wondered out loud. It was Taeyeon’s turn to sigh but obviously, she was thinking how to answer the question.

“I don’t really know the answer to your question. But I have a hunch that it’s because we seldom interact much in public so we could hide our relationship. Hmm.. I really don’t know. What do you think?”

“I don’t know either. But…” Sooyoung hesitated.

“Yes?”

“Why does it have to be you and Tiffany?”

Taeyeon tried thinking about the answer like what she did at the previous question but there’s nothing coming out of her mind. Not even an excuse. What does that mean? So instead she just tried to comfort her adorably needy girlfriend.

“Hey, do you want me to make you feel better?”

And at that simple question, the taller girl perked up and both didn’t remember their problem anymore.

Sooyoung was sitting alone in front of the stage, resting her tired feet from all the dancing they’ve been rehearsing. They’re doing Gee and Genie again for the billionth time and honestly, she’s freaking tired of it. Not to mention her foul mood was affecting her performance and attitude.

“I’d give anything for food right now.” She mumbled to herself. That has been her way of cheering herself up before Taeyeon. But when the two became a couple, she didn’t think of food as much. But today, seeing the “TaeNy” couple all close and sweet makes her want to devour an all-you-can-eat buffet for the rest of the afternoon.

Her sulky mood wasn’t missed by Hyoyeon, her supposed pair. Apparently, HyoYoung was popular also for their crazy antics and dorky actions. “Hey, you okay?” Hyoyeon said as she took a seat beside Sooyoung, who was dangling her feet from the stage.

The taller girl gave her a weak smile. Hyoyeon looked behind Sooyoung and she saw the TaeNy couple having a conversation. She felt bad for Sooyoung.

“Cheer up. You know it’s just an act. Besides, Taeyeon loves you. Trust her.” Hyoyeon comforted her friend.

“Yeah I know. I trust Taeng. It’s Tiffany that I don’t trust.” Sooyoung said bluntly. The statement took Hyoyeon aback. It was her first time to hear the girl talk about someone that way, especially one of the members.

“What are you saying?” The dancing queen asked in pure curiosity and concern. Sooyoung realized that maybe she said too much but she can’t keep these thoughts and feelings for herself any longer. Hyoyeon is here, offering to hear her out. Maybe her unnie could help.

“Before I tell you this, you must promise never to tell anyone.” She paused. “Even Taeyeon.” Hyo nodded, detecting the tone of warning in Sooyoung’s voice.

The taller looked around to make sure that no one was listening and she also checked if both of their mics were off. When she was satisfied, she started to pour out her feelings to Hyoyeon.

“I know I shouldn’t think about bad stuff to our other members but I can’t help it. You know I like everyone here. But it’s just that I feel uneasy being around Tiffany lately and I don’t want Taeyeon near her.” Sooyoung stated. These confused the dancing queen more.

“What do you mean?”

“Tiffany likes Taeyeon. I know. I’m not stupid and blind.” Sooyoung deadpanned.

Hyoyeon’s eyes widened at what she heard and she scrunched her eyebrows together. “How could you tell and how can you be so sure?”

Sooyoung sighed almost impatiently, for the irritating feelings were taking over her. But she was talking to Hyoyeon and the girl actually wants to listen. So she pushed the annoying thoughts aside and continued telling her side.

“Don’t tell me you don’t see it. Even before Taeng and I became a couple, I’ve noticed how Tiffany treats Taeyeon differently.” Hyoyeon opened to cut the taller girl off, but Sooyoung raised her hand, indicating that she doesn’t want to be interrupted. “Yes, I know what you’ll say, that maybe it’s just a friendly gesture or whatever the case.” Sooyoung said.

“I thought that as well. But my suspicion was cleared that day when we all decided to get drunk. Do you remember that Hyo?” She asked the shorter girl. Hyoyeon searched her brain for the memory but she couldn’t quite recall it. She saw a smirk in Sooyoung’s face which brought some thoughts back. “Oh yeah. But I couldn’t remember anything after that.”

“That’s because everyone was wasted, except for me and maknae.”

“I understand Seo was not drunk. But you?” Hyoyeon asked as if she was betrayed. Sooyoung let out a small laugh and said, “I thought that it would be pretty funny if you were all drunk and I’d caught it on video. And then I’ll blackmail you guys to serve me some food.”

Hyoyeon wasn’t amused. “But I saw you drinking too… that day.”

“No, it was just iced tea. Did I fool you?” Sooyoung proudly admitted. She was now laughing a bit louder while Hyoyeon was giving her a full on scowl. “It’s not funny Sooyoung.”

The taller girl shrugged and continued with her story. “So anyway, everyone was drunk right? And maknae was getting all worried while I was laughing so hard because of the funny things all you guys were doing. So we decided to call it a night and help you guys to your respective rooms. You were pretty hardcore though, still able to dance around while you’re drunk.” Sooyoung joked trying to lighten up the mood. Hyo wasn’t laughing but she’s clearly interested with what the taller girl was saying.

“Go on.” Hyo urged.

“Seo was taking Jessica to our room; meanwhile I was trying to carry Taeyeon because she was passed out. So as I was scooping her up from the couch, Tiffany began shouting something in English. I know my English abilities are not that good but I can understand what she was saying…” Sooyoung paused for effect and also to look around again.

Hyoyeon urged her to go on and Sooyoung moved in closer to Hyoyeon. “She said, ‘Don’t touch my Taeyeon. I’m the only one who can do that!’ And then maknae returned from the room and she restrained Tiffany because she was about to lunge at me. Then she started sobbing and she was saying, ‘Taengoo saranghae’. Something like that. Seo and I exchanged confused looks but we vowed never to tell what happened that night. Well I guess I broke that promise right now.” Sooyoung sighed heavily as she finished her story.

Hyoyeon was in shock. “Really? That really happened?”

“Do I look like I’m kidding you?” The taller girl asked seriously. Yes she’s a joker but not with Taeyeon. She left out the part after Tiffany’s drunken confession, where she did her best not to burst out of jealousy. Because at that time, she was doing her best to ignore all her growing feelings for Taeyeon and knowing she had a competition gave her a hard time doing so.

Hyoyeon bit her lip on what she heard. If this goes out, it might turn nasty. It may cause some serious damage to their group and their friendships. “I know what you’re thinking. It may seem bad but my trust kinda grew when Tiffany didn’t make a move on Taeyeon when she found out we are dating. So I’m really hoping that she won’t use this situation right now to her advantage.” Sooyoung confessed.

Hyoyeon nodded in understanding. “Yeah me too, coz I don’t like taking sides. And I’m afraid that this might affect our group.” It was the taller girl’s turn to nod. “Besides, maybe she has moved on and probably doesn’t have feelings for Taeyeon anymore.”

“I hope so too.” Sooyoung, feeling down and bothered, leaned her head in Hyoyeon’s shoulder while the other girl draped her arms over the girl and rubbed the girl’s arm. It was foreign for both girls but Sooyoung found it comforting.

Neither do they know that Taeyeon was watching from behind. Even though she was talking with Tiffany, Sooyoung still owned her thoughts. That’s why when she saw Hyoyeon and Sooyoung in that position she kinda blanked out suddenly.

“Taeng?” Tiffany waved a hand in front of the girl’s face. “Hey~!” She called out again and this time the other girl responded. “Oh sorry about that. What were you saying?” Taeyeon asked. Tiffany continued her drabble but Taeyeon wasn’t listening anymore. She was now watching the HyoYoung couple teasing and laughing playfully with each other, acting like dorks. She couldn’t help but feel jealous coz Hyoyeon seemed to be having fun with her girlfriend. Unlike her bored to death with Tiffany’s endless talk regarding the American culture.

“You seem distracted.” The mushroom said to the girl. “Oh I’m just tired sorry.” Taeyeon replied. She wants nothing than to go home. “What time will this rehearsal end?”

“I really don’t know. Why?”

“Nothing.” Taeyeon said nonchalantly. “I’ll just go to the dressing room.”

“Do you want me to come with—“

“Uhm, no. It’s okay.” Taeyeon said as she walked briskly towards the dressing room. She passed by the HyoYoung couple and caught Sooyoung’s gaze. She sent her a secret message using her eyes and hoped to god that the taller girl understood. When she disappeared to the dressing room, Sooyoung excused herself from Hyoyeon and followed her girlfriend to the said room.

Tiffany watched quietly from backstage. She’s going to work harder if she wants Taeyeon for herself.
