Chapter 3: The Beginning or The End?

You Left Without Saying Goodbye

"So yesterday, when Lay and Chen teamed up to scare Luhan and Baekhyun, they hid in the upstairs bathroom for twenty minutes. Finally, when those idiots went up into the upstairs hallway, Chanyeol began flickering the lights. They looked around and acted as if they weren't scared at all. Then, Lay and Chen jumped out with their masks and began running after them. I swear, I've never heard Luhan and especially Baekhyun scream like they did. Even when we went to that haunted house a few months back, Luhan's scream wasn't as bad as it was yesterday. Baekhyun too. If only you were there, you would have been laughing your off like we all were. I'm pretty sure Xiumin was recording it."

In a way, I couldn't help but be agitated over how Tao was acting. He wasn't doing anything wrong, rather being very bright and cheerful, but that's what bothered me. Why is he acting as if nothing painful has happened...that Kris didn't leave us? I don't understand why he is pretending. Is it to cheer me up or is he lying to himself? Before I could stop myself from acting rude, I mindlessly blurted out "How are you coping so well?"

"What do you mean?" Tao gave me a confused look. Dammit, I was the jerk to say something like this. Well, now that I'm drowning, I might as well make it worth while and explain my point.

"Well, I feel heartbroken over what happened with Kris. Like, as if my heart was ripped out." Telling him this, I looked down at my caramel frappe in my hands and began twisting it around, partitially distracting myself from the situation in front of me. "I know you two were best friends and that you looked up to Kris, and it seems like it doesn't bother you what just happened."

"If you think it doesn't bother me, you'd be mistaken." I looked up at Tao, whose eyes were hardly recognizable. They pierced into me and I swear I could feel knives cutting up whatever what was left of me. The happiness and joy that he had before was gone in an instance and pain had replaced his expression in his eyes. It was like a completely different person, and it scared me to see him like this.

"Tao, I didn't mean it as an insult." I stood up, ready to leave. I felt guilty, making him upset like this. Being the idiot I am, I ruined his day probably. "I'm sorry, if I hurt you in any way. I'm a jerk and I deserve whatever I get."

"You did hurt me, but not with what you said." What? I sat back down, wanting to hear what he had to say next. "I realized that pretending everything is okay doesn't make it change reality. Thank you." His eyes began to soften, his coldness seemingly melting away.

"Here, let's get our mind off of him for a while. Do you want to go see a movie? I had already bought tickets early, because Kris and I planned on seeing it, but since we aren't together anymore I would really love it if you came. You've been so kind to me, Tao, and thank you for that." He shrugged, giving me a soft smile.

"Amber, if anyone is the kind one....it'd be you." I blushed at his comment, looking away from him for a moment and finding sudden interest in what was going on outside.

"Thanks Tao, but I beg to differ. Look, the rain has cleared up. Maybe that's a good thing."

"It must be a sign from the stars, now we really gotta see that movie. What time does it start?"

"I think in a few minutes. It's called 'The Girl in the Red Dress'."

"Oh, we better get there now!! Come on!!" All of a sudden, Tao grabbed my hand and pulled me up out of my seat. He picked up our almost finished drinks and handed me mine. Before I could ask him to slow down, he began dragging me out of the cafe and towards the movie theater down a few blocks.

The energy and warmth this boy has, I wish I possessed it. The bitterness I had in me was sickening. Why couldn't I fall in love with someone as innocent and kind as Tao? I don't think someone like him could hurt me. Well, I guess my taste in men .

"Mr. Wu, Cho Bum Suk is ready to see you now." the woman at the front desk said to me, never taking her eyes off her laptop. Well, that was kind of rude. Whatever, I don't deserve people being polite to me right now. Besides, what does it matter anyway? It doesn't change anything going on around me. Rolling my eyes at my irrelevant inner thoughts, I raised myself from my seat and began walking to the door next to her desk.

 "Okay, thank you."

No response. Oh well, maybe she is having a bad day.

Once I walked in, the man behind his desk motioned me with his hand to come inside. He was in some intense situation with whoever was on the other line of his cellphone. I quickly closed the door and took a seat in front of his desk. After a few minutes, he hung up his cell phone and placed it in his coat pocket.

"I'm sorry, there was a misunderstanding with another client. How can I help you, Mr. Wu?" He put his elbows on his desk and intertwined his fingers, leaning his chin against them. "Then again, I am pretty sure why you are here to see me. I've heard the rumors all over the internet. This isn't the first time I've had an SM idol come to my office."

"I need your help....nullifying my contract with SM Entertainment."

"I won't lie, I'm surprised. You are at the height of your career, let alone the leader of EXO M. EXO's first solo concert had sold out tickets in 1.47 seconds! Are you sure you want to do this? It may take even years to officially break this thing."

"Yes sir, I know what the consequences are and I am ready to deal with them."

"There is no turning back after this." He warned me again. I've already been through hell and back these past few months, especially this past few weeks. Nothing that comes next could hurt me worse than what's already happened to me. I guess what comes next begins hear. It's the beginning and the end all inside one moment.

"Yes." I confirmed. He sighed, leaning back in his chair.

"Okay. Now son, explain to me everything that happened that lead you to do this. Back when I had Hangeng of Super Junior, he told me they were inhumane and treated their idols terribly. Is this what happened to you?"

"Well, that movie was scary!" Tao exclaimed, clapping his hands together.

"Right!? When that girl popped out from behind the doors....Jesus Christ that scared me!" I replied, remember that scene vividly in my head. I swear, that movie will be haunting me for a little while.

"Uhhhh, noona don't remind me ~~." he whined, causing me to giggle. Soon enough, I got an evil idea and began grinning like a villain.

"She was all like 'Kekekekekeke.....' and then BAM!" I grabbed Tao's shoulders, making him jump a little in the theater seat. "There she was!"

 "No! Amber noona, please stop!!"

"Haha, fine." I whined. "I see that horror movies aren't your thing."

Tao put a hand behind his head, clearly embarrassed, and said "I don't mind them....they just always scare the hell outta me."

"You could have told me! Now I feel so guilty." Tao shook his head no.

"Actually, this time it wasn't too bad. I felt safe with you here." I could feel my face heat up again. I swear, his comments are gonna kill me.

"Thanks, but I'm nothing to be scared of." We began walking out of the movie theater and back towards the dorms. "Well, maybe when someone takes my food or sleep away from me. I'm very frightening,"

"Frightening? I can't imagine that. What, do you start biting people and attack them like a wild llama??"

"Shhh, secrets Tao! Secrets!" I said in a hushed tone, putting a finger up to my lips.

"Sorry, pandas aren't the most quiet animal." Tao shrugged, chuckling. I rolled my eyes and couldn't help but giggle.

Honestly, this day has been the best day I've had in a long while. It's the first time I could get my mind off of everything, even if it was for a short period of time. I know misery will be knocking on my door again soon, so enjoying this while it lasts will be my goal for now. Taking me out of my thoughts, I felt my phone vibrating in my jean pocket. I took it out and saw it was a text from the f(x) manager. What does he want? He rarely ever texts me. After quickly reading over the text, I smiled at the news.

"So, what do you wanna do next? Apparently, the scheduled meeting for f(x) has been moved to tomorrow morning." I put my phone back in my pocket and raised both of my arms in the air. I felt like God was giving me a tiny break today. After a little bit, Tao playfully grabbed my wrists and put them back to my sides. I tried to defy him, but of course his strength was far better than mine. Still, that didn't stop me from trying. Once I was exhausted - which only took a few more seconds - I gave up and we began to laugh.

"You know what? How about we go back to my dorm?" Tao offered casually.

  Wait, his dorm?

I could feel a knot begin to twist in my stomache. Not only did Kris live there, but it is where Tao lives....another boy. I don't like being alone in another boy's room, no matter how close I am with them. It just made me uncomfortable and it isn't easy to explain. Kris was the only person I was able to. Not only was feeling unsafe my issue, but I couldn't help but feel I was cheating on Kris. I know there is nothing going on between Tao and I and that Kris is gone from my life now apparently, but I couldn't help but still feel allegiance to him. The same with earlier when I deffended him.

 I still love him.

"What? I mean, are you sure?" I asked.

"Hell yeah, I have all of the 'Call of Duty' games. I know how you love video games." The last part he cooed into my ear. Damn, tempting me with video games....he wasn't a dumb boy.

"I don't know, it's just I don't want to disturb the other EXO members." I lied, hoping he would just let me escape this.

"Amber, you could never annoy them. We are always happy to see you. Come on, I'm sure the others would love to face us....especially see me kick your ."

"Oh that's it! We are heading there right now!" I still didn't want to go, but staying for a few games didn't seem bad. I can leave right after. Besides, when I am challenged, I am never able to back away. This jerk seemingly knows that. I have never had anyone beat me at a COD game, and looking like a chicken didn't make myself feel any better, rather more determined to wreck him.

"Alright!!" Tao yelled in a low voice. Just a few games I assured myself, then I'd be back home in the dorms.
