The second time

Silence is louder than words

Kikwang and Doojoon were in the cafeteria, waiting for Hyunseung. While Kikwang was hungrily eating his burger, Doojoon's one lay untouched. He was thinking about what a coincidence it had been, for Hyunseung and the boy to know each other. Or as Hyunseung had called him, Yoseob. Light Yo, Fire Seob. Doojoon thought that was very appropriate name for him. Yoseob. Yoseob. He had left such a strong impression on Doojoon that he couldn't help but think about him.

'Why does he keep re-appearing in my head?' Doojoon asked himself frustratedly. 'What is it about him that I'm so drawn to?'

"Can I eat your burger if your not eating it?" Kikwang pointed to it. Doojoon pushed his burger towards him without a word and Kikwang picked it up immediately. "Thanks. What are you thinking about so deeply?"

"Buisness. Bills. Life." Doojoon smiled at him. "Hey, do you know the boy who Hyunseung's talking to right now?"

"You mean Yoseob? I've heard Hyunseung talk about him one or twice but this is my first time meeting him." Kikwang told him.

"He looks quite young... shouldn't he be in high school?" Doojoon asked casually, taking a sip of his coffee. Iced coffee, his favourite.

Kikwang stared at him strangely. "Doojoon, he's our age."

If Doojoon hadn't been careful, his drink would have gone everywhere when he heard what Kikwang had said. He gulped and then asked with his eyes going wide, "Our age? Not high school?"

"Well that's what Hyunseung said." Kikwang told him. Doojoon began to smile; no wonder he had reacted so negatively when he had asked him why he wasn't in high school. He felt a little bad for mistaking him so young, but the expression on Yoseob's face returned inside his head and he couldn't help chuckle to himself again. "Oh look! Hyunseung's back!"

"Sorry I was late." Hyunseung sat down next to them, looking a little worried. He was biting his lip unconsiously which was a habit he'd had in high school too, whenever there was a test or something. "Junhyung was being the slowest driver in the world as usual."

"It's okay! As long as your here." Kikwang cheered at him, then stretched out his arms. "Ah! It's been such a long time since we've meet each other like this."

"How did your buisness go with...Yoseob?" Doojoon asked uncertainly. He didn't know why but while calling him by his first name in his head was fine, calling him Yoseob out loud seemed a little strange. After all, he'd only just met him.

"Good; I just had something to ask him." Hyunseung smiled but he still looked worried.

"What's wrong?" Kikwang asked, putting the burger down.

Hyunseung hesistated, before speaking. "Its Junhyung. I think he's worried, and it has something to do with Yoseob."

"How does Junhyung relate to him?" Doojoon asked.

"I actually know Yoseob through Junhyung. They knew each other in high school, and since then Junhyung's always been pretty protective about him. Ever since Yoseob got a new job a week ago, he hasn't seen him which I can tell is making Junhyung nervous. He's not saying but deep inside hes worried about Yoseob. I had a feeling that something was bothering Yoseob so when I meet him today, I wanted to clear up a few things. From my guess although Yoseob denied it, hes avoiding Junhyung but not for a bad reason. It was only because of that I let him go. I dont know what to tell Junhyung though; he would be pretty hurt if he knew Yoseob was deliberately not seeing him and I dont want to create any misunderstandings. But, he doesnt seem happy right now." Hyunseung told them, biting his lip even more after he finished talking

"Hyunseung, stop that your going to bleed." Doojoon smack his hand lightly. "And stop worrying: if it were serious Junhyung would probably be discussing this with you. It's probably just a small thing: you just worry way too much."

"Your right." Hyunsung suddenly gave a bright smile and stood up. "I'm sorry for ranting about this with you guys. Now enough serious talk; how about we head out to a resturant now?"

Yoseob was walking back to the library, giving up for the day searching for jobs. He had just finished his conversation with Hyunseung and was wondering whether Hyunseung knew more that he had let on. Was Yoseob that easy to read? From what Hyunseung had said, it seemed like Junhyung was truely upset at Yoseob's absence. Yoseob felt confused; wasn't the whole point in disappearing to make Junhyung happier? Then there was the fact that Hyunseung had seen him; would he tell Junhyung? Once again, all Yoseob had done was cause confusion. He'd also achieved nothing today. His encounter with the woman, going to the police station and meeting Hyunseung had made him tired. It was surprising how much lack of food affected your energy.

'Not only energy, but also appearance.' Yoseob thought to himself as he caught sight of himself as he walked past. He had gotten alarmingly skinny and bony, and as Yoseob looked closely he saw that his dark circles had gotten even larger, his eyes looked frighteningly large and fearful in his even small face. Although Yoseob had always been on the small side, this was too far. He looked away from his face, and once again hated the fact that he'd been born with such a face. No wonder people always knew how to hurt him; he was like an open book. At that point, he forced himself to take away all feelings and make himself feel nothing but blankness. Yoseob felt an almost relaxing numbness come to him as he slipped away, and he looked inside his reflection to see an expressionless face stare back at him. This was better.

Yoseob walked away with heavy footsteps and finally arrived at his destination. Before entering the library doors, something caught his eye. A sheet of paper was advertising a job as an librarian. "Shortage of librarians; looking for someone who is willing to become one. Small wage will be given." Finally, a bit of luck had come to him. Hurrying to the front desk, he saw that he was face to face with a familiar librarian. It was the one that he thought he had seen a few nights ago, and he was sure that he knew about Yoseob's sleeping arrangements. He hadn't seem him upclose and now he did he saw how mature and responsible he looked. He was a lot taller than Yoseob, and had a serious face. However he looked very friendly when he look up to see Yoseob.

"Haven't seen you studying here in a while." he said, smiling. "What can I do for you?"

"Are you still accepting people for your librarian job?" Yoseob asked quietly, his heart thudding. He told himself not to get his hopes high, and his heart was heavy which was why it gave a jolt when he heard the librarian's answer.

"Why yes we are. We're currently under-staffed, and we need a few poeple who would like to help around. Would you like to work at the library?"

"Yes. Please." Yoseob quickly answered without hesistating.

"Well your hired! We'll be having a tutorial tomorrow at 12pm here that you should attend. It's going to just be us teaching you things that you need to know need working here, like where different books are and what to do when a customer's having difficulty. Oh, and my name is Son Dongwoon but you may just me Dongwoon. May I ask you what your name is?" he asked, his pen ready in his hand.

"Yoseob, Yang Yoseob." Yoseob said, and before he could stop himself he felt himself giving a small smile. Dongwoon scribbled his name down onto a list, and then wrote something down on a piece of paper before handing it to him.

"Thank you. We will be expecting you here by 12pm and please don't be late. Have a good day." he smiled, before going back to his work. Yoseob walked to the entrance of the library in a daze, before he realised that he was scrunching up the note Dongwoon had given him in his fist. Opening it carefully, he read the note.

The library's busy today, and there's a lot of people around the main stairs. If I were you, I'd go through the backdoors to the attic.

Yoseob turned around but the librarian was innocently writing something down and paying no attention to him at all. Feeling gratitude to him, and did as he said and walked through the backdoors, upstairs and into his room. The room was just as empty and plain as it had been this morning, but to Yoseob it felt like it was a mansion in the mood he was in. Finally, he had gotten a job for the first time in his life. He hadn't felt this happy in a long while, and although he felt afraid in case he would jinx his happiness, he couldn't help but feel a warm bubbly feeling in his stomach. Hope.

'Maybe things would get better from now on,' Yoseob thought foolishly to himself. He had these kind of thoughts countless of times, but he never seemed to learn from his mistakes. He didn't want to think of the future or the past: right now he just wanted to stay in this moment forever.  'Maybe everything will become alright, and I'll get to start over.'

Yoseob sat down, and gave a huge stretch before he saw something stuck on his wall. A plain envelope. He went over and took it off the wall and then opened it.  Reading the letter, the warm bubbly feeling in his stomach left and was replaced with fear. The words were written in a simple font, and there was only one sentence on the sheet of paper but Yoseob began to tremble. He scrunched the piece of paper up, and closed his eyes. He hadn't heard of them in such a long time, and he didn't know how they had found him again but he should've known better than to assume that they had forgotten about him. What a strange relationship he had with them; he was ignored when he wanted to be acknowledged, and acknowledged when he wanted to be ignored. They had one clear message though.

They would not let him forget the past.

-

His first day of work, and Yoseob was late. He hadn't been able to sleep well, not after reading the envelope and now he was late to his first job. Cursing inside his head, Yoseob ran inside the library but started fast walking when he saw the glares of the librarians. He was so busy trying to walk fast that he bumped into someone's back.

"Oh I'm sorry-" Yoseob stopped when he saw that he'd bumped into a slightly familiar face. It was man from the police office yesturday.

"Well isn't it a pleasure bumping into you, Yoseob." he smiled.

A/N: I wrote and quickly finished in a rush without editing! I hope that the story's finally going somewhere! I just realised the end of the chapters a little blunt... Sorry! Enjoy!
