Coffee Shop

A/N: I'm back with another chapter!

Uhm, also this will probably be the last chapter for a couple of weeks (as I'll be leaving the country for holidays), but I'll return with a whole new chapter!

Sadly, even though they could have stayed that way for ages, something got them up after just a couple of minutes. The sound of an alarm clock, and the realization that it was Monday.

Minseok sat by the kitchen table, almost dozing off as he rested his head on hand. Just ten minutes ago he had been fully awake, but the knowledge that it was Monday, and that he couldn’t cuddle for as long as he wanted to, made him tired all over again. Luhan on the other side, was his usual, happy self. He was the one making breakfast, and he smiled as Minseok sighed because it was Monday. But Minseok realized he couldn't stay that way forever, and he tried to pull himself together a little bit, and sat up in his chair. He needed to look at least representable when he went to work, or he’d get an earful from his boss.

Of the two of them Luhan was the superior cook, and after he moved in, Minseok had started looking forward to his meals. When he had lived alone, his diet had mainly consisted of take-away, cup-a-noodles and cornflakes, which he now realized maybe weren’t very healthy nor very smart considering the future of his body. And as he got up and put on plates for the two of them, Luhan served a warm breakfast, which had become quite a nice change for both. Luhan would make the food, and Minseok would do whatever was left. He smiled for himself, as they ate in silence. This was nice, indeed.

But still, even though they lived well and fit perfectly, there was still one thing that wasn’t settled. Because to be honest, Minseok was more than enough happy to have Luhan stay with him. His parents paid for the apartment anyways, so when Luhan brought up that he wanted to pay rent, Minseok felt that it wasn’t really fair to receive money from him. Luhan had enough to deal with already, and for now Minseok just wanted him to focus on his studies. Because honestly? He had enough money. Yes, he bought everything he needed himself, but he didn’t shop clothes that often, he was careful with his things, and seriously? Cornflakes didn’t really cost anything, so the food expenses were kept down at a minimum as well. And his job paid off well. His boss was maybe strict and scary and just generally terrifying, but she appreciated his skills and gave him a small pay-rise every now and then.

But Luhan didn’t have that luxury. He had to pay the gang his brother had stolen money from at a regularly basis, which didn’t leave him with much. And Minseok didn’t want those few last won spent on rent, when they easily could go to better things.

So they had come up with a deal. It made Minseok happy, but Luhan was still in doubt. The general idea was that Minseok was dealing with rent and stuff, and Luhan kept the house clean. He made food, made sure everything was okay and all that stuff. It was the least Luhan could make him agree with, and he had even made the usual cleaning lady stop coming every week to make Luhan feel like he was doing something for living there.

Minseok decided that if he ran, he would catch work in time. And as he jumped around on one foot, putting on a pair of Converse high-tops, Luhan laughed at him.

“You look stupid,” he commented, which earned a glare from Minseok. Well, it was supposed to be a glare but coming from Luhan, he couldn’t quite give him the right look. He was great at glaring at his co-worker, Lay, every now and then when he earned it. But when he tried to glare at Luhan, it ended up being a sheepishly smile, like a child who tried being angry but couldn’t keep it and laughed instead.

So knowing he had lost, he quickly swung his bag over one shoulder, pecking Luhan shortly at the lips.

“Dammit Luhan, we’re acting like an old, married couple already. We need to fix this,” he sighed half joking, before sprinting out the door. And Luhan stood there left, still laughing. That was one of the things that made Minseok him. A sheepish guy who could never get to work on time. And he loved it.

When Minseok barged in the door to the café, his co-worker and trusted comrade Yixing was already at the counter. He grinned as he saw Minseok run in the door, and checked his wristwatch.

“Only one minute and 48 seconds!” he declared. “That’s a record!”

Yixing quickly recieved the glare Minseok failed at giving Luhan, and he put his hands up in defeat. “Go change, I heard boss-lady is checking up on her employees today,” he reported with raised eyebrows, and greeted a customer that just came in the door. Minseok nodded and without further discussion, decided he better go get changed before his boss arrived.

Their uniforms were simple. In the winter, they were pretty much allowed to wear whatever they wanted, as long as it was acceptable at work. This meant knitted, light-coloured sweaters or ordinary sweaters with no patterns on it, and dark jeans. And in the summer, as it was a little bit too warm to walk around in thick clothes, they were to use white, long sleeved shirts or dress shirts. Yixing preferred the dress shirts, while Minseok preferred the long sleeved shirts, so at least they had a little variation.

For a long time, they had seen an increase in customers. They didn't really know how or when - it happened somewhere along the way. The coffee shop had always been a little bit hidden for the common eye, so the popularity was unexpected. But he didn't mind it. They hadn't been doing bad before, but now their manager seemed to be in a constantly better mood. She had even let them off work one hour earlier the previous week.

"Hey, Minseok!" Yixing exclaimed as Minseok spaced out for a few seconds while making a cappuccino. His head was all over the place like it had been the whole week, without him really knowing why. As soon as Yixing called out he turned around, realizing the coffee was done ages ago.

"Oh," he muttered, walking over to the counter where the one ordering a cappuccino waited. "Sorry," he half-smiled. The waiting customer, a tall, blackhaired guy with a wide smile and eyes with a mischievous glint in them, nodded as soon as he got his order, saying a thank you before walking over to one of the tables in the faraway corners. He sat down by a smaller, brown-haired boy, who had ordered something from Yixing earlier. Minseok swore he had seen them before, though he couldn't really place where. Maybe they were on the verge of becoming regulars?

At that point, someone else came into the cafe. The little bell over the door chimed as it opened, and a known face came in, red cheeked as half his face was hidden under a cream-coloured scarf. His trademark deep-green jacket was drawn close around him, as he escaped the cold weather outside. As soon as he came in a wide smile spread across his face, though both Yixing and Minseok only could see his eyes. He walked straight forward, placing last in the small queue that formed in front of the counter. As the line slowly moved forward he ended up first, and gave Minseok a crooked smile as he took his scarf off.

"I'd like the macciato, please," Luhan said mischievously.

Minseok who was taking his order, rolled his eyes. "You know Yixing makes those better than I do," he said, turning to get Yixing instead. The latter was currently in the back room getting more coffee beans, and he was about to leave when Luhan put a hand on his. As Minseok turned back again he ended up staring into the eyes of Luhan, who was centimetres from his face as they both leant a little bit over the counter from each side.

"I've wanted to taste the one you make for ages, but you never seem to be willing to do it. I've asked for a long time already. So I figured, that I just had to come here and order it myself. Can't refuse a customer?" he smirked.

Instead of going all red by Luhan's closeness like he would have done half a year ago, he just rolled his eyes and blew air in the face of the one opposite of him, causing him to pull half a step backwards.

"That was cold of you!" Luhan complained, to which Minseok only raised an eyebrow.

"Your order is coming up, sir. To go or sit inside?" keeping the professional tone Minseok turned around and started making the order, without even waiting for the answer. He knew Luhan would choose to sit inside anyways, because there was no way he would come all this way just to leave again. He quickly got the hot drink done, turned around and gave it to Luhan again. "That would be 4,000 won," he said, plastering his widest smile on his face. He knew Luhan had a special love for macciatos though Minseok refused to make them when they had Yixing to do it, but he hadn't actually though Luhan wanted to taste his version this bad. Or maybe it was to irritate him that he did it. It seemed very Luhan-like, as he tended to like to piss off Minseok in a good-mannered way when possible.

As Minseok gave him the tab, Luhan waved his credit card in front of him with his right arm, together with his employee-tag. "Employee's discount," he grinned as Minseok rolled his eyes and cut thousand won off the original sum.

"There you are," he said as the smile became more and more strained. Luhan just nodded innocently, said a thank you and went around the counter. When Minseok questioned it, he excused himself with the fact that he had forgotten his phone here last night.

Instead of worrying any more about Luhan, Minseok turned to the next customer. It was a woman, probably in her twenties. She wore killer high-heels, which made her tower over Minseok by a few couple of centimetres. She had fashionable styled hair and prominent eyeliner, making Minseok wonder if she worked in the fashion-industry or something. She blinked once as he smiled at her, asking her about her order.

"An esspresso," she said somewhat baffled. He was about to ask if she wanted to stay in or have it to go, before she added a quick "to go". He nodded slowly at her reaction, before he went to make her coffee. When he came back she was scribbling something on a small slip of paper, which she slid to him as he gave her the order. As soon as he realized a number was written on it he looked up to protest, saying that he had a boyfriend already, but she just winked at him. She was about to turn around and leave, before he felt an arm slip around his shoulder.

Minseok quickly spun half a round to remind the person guilty of offence - who he had already figured out the identity of - that they had that agreement not to be overly intimate at work (for the sake of Yixing's 'sad lack of own lovelife' and for the other guests). But just as he opened his mouth he looked at Luhan, and the words became stuck in his throat, his mouth left hanging open. Luhan looked... Different. Had he done something with his hair? Usually he just ruffled it a little bit, he didn't really use that much hair products. Minseok liked it that way, really, but now... And had he left an extra button on his shirt open? Minseok thought he had seen all the sides of Luhan so far, but this was something completely new. Not that he minded though. Because this was... He liked to refrain from using the word to describe other people, but Luhan really looked hot. He was always handsome of course, but this was on a whole another level.

And so, Minseok ended up staring wide-eyed at Luhan.

Luhan smiled smugly, leaning down the few couple of centimeters that separated them. He was standing half beside, half behind Minseok, and it sent shivers down the spine of the latter. "I'm sorry," he said in a low voice, eyeing the woman. "But this guy is sadly mine already," the small smile that had been playing on his lips slowly turned into a grin, and shifted his gaze to Minseok. "I just got the best pun for your name; MINEseok, because you're all mine,"

And then, before Minseok could do anything, Luhan drew him into a deep kiss in front of the whole cafe, including all the customers and (a now very unhappy) Yixing (who still cursed his loveless life). The lady was very quickly informed about Minseok's relationship-status.

"I think that was," Minseok declared on his and Luhan's way home from work that day, "by far the worst joke you have ever made," he slowly nodded for himself, talking about the 'MINEseok'-pun.

Luhan shook his head disappointed, and posed to be hurt. "I'm sorry? I thought about that one for like three minutes, I was quite proud you know!"

Then he grinned, and poked Minseok lighty. And the latter couldn't help but crack a smile himself, as he nudged Luhan back. "Then you can use those extra three minutes to fix yourself up like you did now," he raised an eyebrow, finding the keys in his pocket and unlocking the door to the apartment complex.

"Oh?" Luhan raised his eyebrows back daringly, as they walked inside and into the waiting elevator. "You like me like this?"

Minseok sighed, as the doors closed with a muted 'pling' and left them closed in the small steel box as they made their way upwards. "Luhan, for god's sake, how many times have I told you already that you are really handsome? But now, doing all this..." He suddenly turned to Luhan, tip-toeing the extra couple of centimeters. "You're mocking me, you idiot," he went in for a short but deep kiss, before they reached their floor. He'd once before been caught kissing Luhan in an elevator by an old lady, and even though she was really nice he would rather not experience that again. Then, as they halted to a stop and the doors opened, he walked out with Luhan hanging after him like a puppy. He'd like to think he won this round, as he caught Luhan by surprise.

"You can't do that to me," Luhan complained as the hung their jackets in the hallway, "That's so unfair! Kissing is not allowed as an argument,"

Minseok shook his head. "You were the one surprising me by coming out like that! And then you kissed me in front of all of those people, I don't believe you have the right to say anything. You can be happy they didn't do anything, instead of hating us and going home," he reasoned, firmly believing his case was stronger. Luhan pouted, shaking his head. He walked over to the kitchen table, and sat down heavily on a chair.

"Then what was I supposed to do?" he said. "That girl was fawning over you and I couldn't stand there and watch!" He leant his head in his right palm and looked at Minseok, who in return smiled and ruffled Luhan's hair.

"Then, now you know how I feel whenever we walk on the streets and people turn their heads after you," he said, while opening the kitchen drawers to look for something fastly made.

Luhan furred his eyebrows. "They don't," he said, obviously new to this information. But instead of arguing over such a stupid thing, Minseok found a pack of macaroni, which he placed on the counter before turning to Luhan.

"Okay. Let's just say that no one looks at us and we're confident in each other and that's why we live together okay?" he said, offering a truce on the matter.

"I still kind of want to write 'Luhan's property' in permanent marker on your forehead, just to make it clear to them," Luhan muttered, yet not fully satisfied.

A Thursday evening, Yixing came over to Minseok just as they were about to finish up for the night. He was busy cleaning the tables for tomorrow, but all he really wanted to do was go home and sleep, he was so tired he could die. They had stayed extra late going over stocks and numbers to make sure everything was okay, and right now he didn't want to see another plus or minus ever again.

"Hey, cleaning lady," Yixing called, throwing a dry sponge at his almost sleepwalking co-worker. In response, he got a half human sound from someone that hadn't slept well the previous night either.

"But for god's sake," Yixing sighed. "Just how do you and Luhan spend your nights? Wait, I don't want to know, you can spare me," he shook his head, and put a hand on his forehead like he was trying to keep some not very welcomed images out.

"Monopoly," Minseok replied, despite Yixing telling him not to answer. "Goddamn worst game in the world. I'll use it as firewood next time we have a barbeque," he seemed awake enough, even though he was now lying very unprofessionally over one of the tables, using the washing cloth as a pillow.

Yixing furred his eyebrows. "What? That's even worse than I imagined. Monopoly? Are you 80 or something?" he asked. Then he turned around, muttering something about 'even him having a more fun life than them'. And everyone knew Yixing spent his Friday evenings doing his homework.

When Minseok came home, he stood in the hallway for a half a minute, considering if he should sleep on the couch like he had done before Luhan moved in. The bedroom just seemed so far away, and his couch could be quite comfortable, if he just lowered his standards enough. But before he could reach a conclusion his phone started vibrating, signalizing an incoming call from Yixing. Yixing often tended to start saying things, but would then be side-tracked and forget his original topic. Minseok suspected he called to let him in on something he had forgot to say at work.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you, because you left me shocked with your old-people kind of fun. But I was to tell you that we're getting a new worker on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Boss-lady saw the sudden increase in customers and thought we needed a new one. She didn't tell me who, but he is around our age. Oh, and you, me and Luhan got a four percent pay-rise! That means I can eat out tomorrow. Well, it would be embarrassing eating alone so I'm bringing my parents. Anyways, see you!"

And with no room for Minseok to speak, Yixing cut the call and all that was heard in the phone was a buzzing noise signalising a dead line. Had Minseok even been able to put in a word? He didn't think so. Yixing didn't even check if he was there, he just started talking. Minseok sighed, but couldn't help but crack a smile as he kicked off his shoes and dragged himself into his room.

"Luhaaan," Minseok called from the bed as soon as he dropped down on it, laying flat on his stomach. It was completely dark in the room except for the light from the hallway, but he didn't have the energy to go shut the door. "Luhan, stop doing your homework and come sleep,"

Beside him, someone moved. Had Minseok been anymore awake he would have been startled, but right now he didn't care.

"It's half past two in the night, I'm already here," the someone muttered sleepily.

"Oh. Good." Minseok drew Luhan in by the waist, making himself comfortable. "Sleep well," and so, Minseok's consciousness went out for the night.
