The Inevitable
Chapter 5
“I know of a few reasons why some spirits are unable to crossover,” the man named Luhan started calmly.
Yifan had brought him inside our partition the moment Minseok took Minsung for her weekly check-up. He was excited like a little boy who had just caught a dragonfly, presenting the other man who had the same ability to see him as I did.
“It’s basically your choice, really,” he looked to and fro between Yifan and I, who had our ears perked up in interest, “Spirits usually refuses to crossover because they hold a grudge against the living – wanting to seek revenge.”
“How is it that they hold grudges when these spirits don’t even have any memory of their previous self?”
Luhan looked at me like I had a third eye, “What gave you the idea that they don’t?”
Yifan raised his arm up, “I don’t.”
Luhan pursed his lips as he hummed in thought, “Well usually they do. Maybe you had a traumatizing death, causing some sort of a memory lost. How did you die?”
The other man’s face turned bitter in frustration, “Which part of ‘I don’t remember’ don’t you understand?”
If only I could slap some manners into him.
“However, those spirits with grudges aren’t very likable, if I must say. They tend to be very cranky and mean.”
I narrowed my eyes over to the lanky man who seemed not offended by the other’s statement. “You suit those qualifications.”
“They usually look different as well – as in, you know, dead-looking.”
Yifan turned to me snobbishly, “Judging from my appearance, I am 100% sure I don’t fall under that category.”
I rolled my eyes. The arrogant bastard had a point, though.
“Other than that, it’s usually because they have some unfinished business.”
Yifan scratched the tip of his nose, “Like what?”
“It can be anything. Some worry of those they left behind; and some just...refuses to crossover because of regrets during their living lives.”
The other gasped in utter disbelieve, “So I had a traumatizing death and lost my memory, and now I’m stuck in this state for forever?”
Luhan shrugged, “Seems like it.”
“Why am I able to see ghosts?” I asked before Yifan could throw another displeased fit.
“I prefer the term wandering spirits, if you don’t mind,” Luhan smiled, “It is either you were born with it, or had developed the ability after going through certain circumstances. You said you got into an accident, right?”
I nodded, touching my bandaged left eye.
“I met a man here a couple of years ago who had this ability after he underwent an eye surgery.”
