Chapter 20; Part 2
The Perfectly Imperfect Mistake
“Hello, umma.” Sungjong was giving his mother a call, sitting next to leader Sunggyu in a car drove by manager Gonam.
“I’m on my way to Guro Hospital as we’re speaking. No, don’t worry, nothing bad happen about me or Bean. We’re healthy. Bean.. Bean has been a lot stronger. He grows just fine. You should listen to his heartbeat.. It’s.. the most beautiful sound I ever heard,” Sungjong smiled, but his eyes were teary and his voice was shaky. “It’s Myungsoo, umma. Myungsoo.. He.. He’s been in accident. I.. I don’t know anything yet but.. I’ve been told he’s still unconscious,” Sungjong sniffled. “Sunggyu hyung and Gonam hyung will send me home but I might be a little late. I’ll inform you if there’s any change of plans. I will, thanks umma. And umma.. umma please pray for him.”
Sungjong ended the call. He leaned back, sitting still while looking out the window. Left hand in his lap was still had the phone, right hand on the bottom of his baby bump with his thumb caressed it absentmindedly.
Sungjong let himself washed with his overwhelmed feeling. His eyes dripped with tears. His walls, the walls that held him up, made him strong just.. collapsed.
Today was supposed to be a happy day.
He cried silently.
Gonam looked at both crying Sungjong and mourning Sunggyu via the rear mirror. He recalled the memory of fifteen minutes ago; when he was the one who broke the news to the maknae about Myungsoo’s current condition.
Sungjong smiled looking down at Bean’s newest sonogram. He can’t wait to meet Myungsoo and tell everything good that happened to their baby. Well, maybe after he threw a few good punches to the visual. He cannot expect not receiving any punishment for not showing up, duh.
He was about to text Myungsoo but he got a call from his manager instead.
“I finished my appointment but still at the hospital. May I know why I need to wait for you? By the way, where are you now, Gonam hyung?” Gonam sounded disturbed and Sungjong was honest to God confused.
The other line was ended, and Sungjong saw both Gonam and Sunggyu walked towards him in hurry.
That was fast. Sungjong thought. He was so concerned about what was happening right now. One eyebrow raised as he studied Sunggyu and Gonam for a moment or two before Sunggyu decided to open his mouth.
“Sungjong-ah, hyung…” Sunggyu can’t seemed to find his voice when he was already in front of Sungjong. He knew he needed to keep calm for the sake of s but that was the one thing he found impossible to do at the moment.
Gonam gave out a rather heavy sigh and looked at Sungjong with a frown, teary eyes and red nose. “It’s Myungsoo, Sungjong. He said he was sorry he didn’t make it to meet you here, but he didn’t forget your appointment. Heck, he and Hyoan left the house thirty minutes early. Both of them were so excited, especially Myungsoo.”
“So, where he is now?” Sungjong’s heart was somehow pounded quickly all of the sudden. He sensed nothing good will come out from Gonam’s mouth. His eyes fixated on Gonam as if some unknown force was pulling his gaze up. Sunggyu averted his eyes, can’t really face the maknae. That action just proved to Sungjong that something bad had happened to his loved one. Suddenly, he became panicked. He didn’t like this at all, not a bit.
“I’m sorry, Sungjong-ah but.. Myungsoo.. He has been in an accident. He’s been treating at Guro Hospital. We’re here to take you there. He is.. He is unconscious at the moment.”
“Sunggyu hyung.. Hyu-hyung, what is this? It’s not true, right?” Sunggyu closed his eyes when he heard the question. “Sunggyu hyung, Gonam hyung is just joking, right?” It was too much for the leader. “Gyu hyung, please—”
Sunggyu hurriedly hugged the pregnant member. “He’s gonna be okay. Myungsoo.. Myungsoo is gonna be okay, so don’t you worry too much.” Sunggyu was trying to convince himself more than Sungjong. Myungsoo being in accident was a hard pill to swallow, even for Sunggyu and the rest of Infinite.
Dongwoo, who was an optimistic, very positive guy- lost his smile. Woohyun, who the one talked too much, even on some inappropriate time- suddenly lost his voice. Hoya, who was known as a tough guy- was almost fainted. Sungyeol, cheerful, dependent, reliable Sungyeol- was full of rage before broke down completely. Sunggyu didn’t dare to imagine to be in Sungjong’s or Myungsoo’s family’s shoes.
Sungjong slowly nodded, accepting the news without appearing to be troubled by it when he was so against it merely a second ago.
Sunggyu puzzled of how easy Sungjong took the shocking news. But suddenly, he felt Sungjong’s body went weak and he realized Sungjong was about to faint. Hurriedly, he hugged Sungjong even tighter before made him sit down on the nearest seat.
Sungjong felt nauseated. The urge to vomit never felt this strong. He fought so hard to not letting anything came out.
Sungjong felt so bad. He felt beyond guilty. He thought the worst about Myungsoo. He thought Myungsoo forgot about him, about them. He thought Myungsoo got cold feet and bailed on him.
Myungsoo still loved him. Still remembered the promise. The visual still loved him. That was the most important. He should be rejoice over the cloud with that fact but the thought never crossed him. His loved one was unconscious. What if something really bad happened?
Sungjong’s face was pale, so pale like all of the blood got out from him. After a while, his mouth tight as he spoke, “Take me to him.. now.”
“As crazy as this may sound, I cannot not suspecting Kim Doyeon is playing the part of the accident.”
That took Sungjong’s attention. Both he and Gonam were looking at Sunggyu.
“Why’d you said that?” Sungjong needed an explanation.
“It’s true that the car that crushed into Myungsoo’s car was without a driver. Initially, the police team thought the car was just not parked properly, and the car went down from the hill and hit Myungsoo’s car. But, don’t you think it was impossible that the car was at high speed? Without a driver? Seriously? Myungsoo suffers two broken ribs, guys. And not to forget the owner of the car had filed a report the car was missing nearly a month ago.”
“Sorry but I don’t follow you,” Sungjong said honestly, furrowing his brows as he gazing at Sunggyu intently, as if he was trying to look into his very soul to find the answer.
“How to say this? Hm.. Rich people love playing dirty. Every dirty play needs backup that eventually gonna s
