“Are you okay now Hye?” Kai asked in a soft voice, he had been watching over Hye the whole night. The new information Hye got yesterday probably shocked her so much that she fell asleep as soon as Kris took her in his arms. Kai thought the whole scene yesterday night was very touching, but somehow he felt like something was a bit odd about Kris his behavior. As soon as he noticed that Hye fell asleep he put her down and told Kai to take care of her and just left, there was no emotion on his face at all after she fell asleep. This was something that didn’t make sense to Kai at all, he thought that now that the two of them have reunited their friendship Kris would smile uncontrollably.

Kai figured that perhaps Kris was very tired as well, since it was rather late at night. “My head hurts” Hye answered with her eyes half open. Her voice sounded fragile in Kai’s ears, fragile but at the same time very cute. Kai couldn’t help but smile a little bit at Hye’s cuteness, “Oh no, do you want me to get you a painkiller?” he asked her. “Yes please” was all that came out before she closed her eyes again and put her hand on her forehead in the hope to take a little bit of the pain away. She remembered everything that happened last night, she had trouble with trying to not screaming terrible words at herself for never listening to Kris. She had acted like a spoiled brat who knew better for three whole years, while in fact she just ruined a childhood friendship over nothing. She opened her eyes again and Kai was already back in the room with a glass of water and a painkiller for her headache. “Thanks Kai” she said after she took the painkiller and drank it away with some water.

“No problem, Hye” Kai answered with a small smile included of course. Hye stared at his face, more precisely at his smile, his mouth and his eyes. Now that she had felt his heartbeat she somehow couldn’t think of Kai as a robot anymore. He already looked so much like a normal human, and now it turns out he actually has a beating heart on top of that.
“Is there something on my face?” Kai asked noticing her staring. “No.. it’s just.. I can’t believe you’re a robot anymore” Hye explained. “Sit down next to me okay?” Hye told him while petting the bed. Kai sat down as he was told “I’m not really sure what this makes me.. to be honest” Kai let out his thoughts about hit beating heart. “Well, technically, I guess you’re neither a robot nor a human right?” Hye said exactly the words Kai couldn’t stop thinking about. “Right..” he answered.

“You’re kind of like a super human!” Hye shouted after thinking it through. “You have the amount of power and body of a robot, but the heart, will and thoughts of a human, right?” Hye concluded “so, you’re a super human”. Kai chuckled at Hye’s enthusiasm of figuring this out, “Well, I must admit I do like the sound of that”. “Right?” Hye answered excitingly with a smile on her face. She figured now that Kai has a beating heart he probably wasn’t to be as feared as other robots. Of course she wouldn’t let her guard down just yet. But Kai having a beating heart inside of him did calm her mind a bit and unconsciously she already started to open up to Kai.

“When did Kris leave?” she asked after she realized that her tears made her fall asleep in no time. “Kris left as soon as you were asleep, and told me to watch over you” Kai answered, as he stood up and dusted off invisible dust from his jeans. “Ah, I see..” Hye figured that Kris wouldn’t stay the night, but she was a bit sad that he hadn’t left a note or something that announced his leave. She wondered if their friendship really had totally recovered after last night. It did sound logical that maybe he never really was her enemy, as Kris had mentioned before that he wants to be a part of the ruler system in order to change things around there. But on the other hand something still didn’t feel right. It would be nice to think everything is rainbow and sunshine after 3 years but somehow Hye didn’t want to start partying about it just yet.

The robots still remained under the government’s hands, even if Kris did get into the ruler system and was able to make a couple of changes, alone he wouldn’t even last for a week in the ruler system. Well, he would if he went along with all of their plans, but not if he immediately voiced his thoughts about the way our world is being ruled right now. Maybe that’s why there was something not feeling good about what was happening.

She would have to have a serious talk to Kris about all this once more. If both of them really wanted to change something and make the world more equal they would seriously need each other for it. Hye thought everything through, and she knew Kris was right, to change something about the ruler system it had to come from within the ruler system. But to get into the ruler system she had to get her act together even more. Luckily her father would help her get into the ruler system without a second thought, but it was her pride that would hurt. She had always convinced herself that anyone who joins the ruler system is just a selfish /jackass. Of course she herself also realized she would be joining in order to turn thing around, she still had to get her heart to agree with this.

Kai had long left the room as he saw Hye was in deep thoughts and he wanted to leave her in her own space for her thoughts. He was out in the backyard enjoying the scenery of the morning glow shimmering on the water of the large pond with beautiful fishes in it. Kai himself needed to get his thoughts straightened out as well. Although he hasn’t been alive for so long he had many questions about this world and the people who were living on it, in particular Kris his maker and Hye his… His what? What was Hye exactly to him? To other robots she would be called a master, but Kai felt that since he is not really a robot this wouldn’t really apply to him. Mostly since, well, he would listen to what she says, but not necessarily really do as she said. He hoped he would more be seen as a comrade or friend instead of a servant. He placed his hand on his chest and felt the thumping of his heart, somehow the feeling of his thumping heart calmed him in a certain manner. It just felt like a reassuring rhythm and it was a nice thought that this heart had made him the way he is.
He stood up, ready to do some chores around the house as Seung Tae had ordered him to.

Hye finally stood up, determined about her future. What was she even thinking to accomplish with just hatred for the ruler system? Her hatred wouldn’t do anything to it, but her actions could. If she had only realized this before.. That she can actually make a change, that she should be happy about the opportunities she was born with.
 

Hye looked at the clock, it was still early in the morning and she wasn’t really sure where to start, she didn’t really have a plan besides getting into the ruler system. So she ran downstairs and quickly put on her coat and decided to go to the place she had before sworn to never visit. Kai immediately stood up and ran towards the door as he had heard Hye running from the stairs. “Where are you going so early?” Kai asked his eyes showing concern. “I know I normally don’t leave as early as this. I have some plans, you’re welcome to join if you feel like it” she didn’t really answer Kai’s question, but since it was the first time she actually invited him to join he had no complaints. “I am driving” Hye said as she jumped into the fastest car her family owned. “Okay..” Kai was a bit sceptic about Hye’s driving skills but took the seat next to her anyway.
“Come on” Hye whined “I know how to drive properly, don’t look at me like that” “Like what?” Kai asked not realizing the emotions that were easy to be seen on his face. “You look as if you’re going to die with me driving in this car” Hye chuckled as she pressed in the pedal with her foot and the motor started roaring. Kai nervously laughed back, deep inside he did kind of feel that way.
Hye proved him otherwise though, she was rather skilled at driving and obviously was loving the speed of the car and the wind pulling back her hair. It somehow made her feel alive, she never had to worry about anything when she driving. All she could think of was the speed and the feeling of freedom it gave her. Kai stared at the girl next to him in awe for the first minute, but soon was distracted by the wind hitting his face and the beautiful scenario’s surrounding them.

Hye’s house was on top of some hills, making the route towards everywhere they go magical and touristic especially with the morning glow just reaching above the hills. Down the hills you could see the city, the city was the place where mostly the poor and common people lived. Around the city in the hills were where the richest of richest people had their residence, mostly because on the highest hill the government had their buildings. It was easier for the rulers and government workers to get to their work by not living in the city.

Finally Hye slowed down a bit as they reached a large residence, the soft sun hit their faces as she drove up to the gate. “We’re here” Hye stated, more for herself than for Kai. “Welcome, how can I help you?” Was what they heard when Hye pressed the button on the intercom. “Hello, this is Hye, I’m here to see Kris” she answered to the voice coming from the intercom. She figured the voice probably came from a robot. Since Kris made robots himself he also had a lot of them in his home, it was like one big robot family. Hye felt a chill run through her body as she thought of the army of robots that roomed around Kris’s house. Kris had his own residence as soon as he started to work for the government, it was safe to say Kris is the most wealthy person of his age on the whole world.

The gate opened and Hye drove up to the front door and exited the car, Kai knocked on the door and was expecting to see Kris’s face. Instead of course, a robot was the one opening the door for them. Hye recognized the robot clearly, it was one of Kris’s first real human sized robots, she didn’t look very human yet and had an iron maid costume on. Kris had made this maid robot for his mother who back then always got mad at her human maids for not doing as told. That problem was fixed as soon as Kris had introduced his mother to his robot maid. Hye guessed that with the newer robots Kris’s mother no longer had any need for this old robot maid. “Kris is in the kitchen, eating his breakfast” the robot informed us. “Thank you” Hye nodded and walked towards the kitchen with Kai following her around like a happy puppy who is about to see his owner again. Kai just couldn’t resist feeling happy about seeing Kris, his maker.

“Morning” Kris said before he took another sip of his coffee. “Good morning” Hye greeted him and sat down across Kris at the dining table. The robot maid had quickly followed the two into the kitchen and offered them drinks and food. Kai sat down next to Hye enjoying some coffee, while Hye was craving for some tea. “To what do I owe the pleasure of you two visiting so early?” Kris wondered as soon as his guests were seen to by his robot maid. “Well, obviously…” Hye started “we wanted to see you” Kai finished the sentence. Kris chuckled at how straightforward Kai had answered, while Hye felt her cheeks turning pinkish. “For a reason” she said and cleared . “Well, of course.. What’s the reason then?” Kris asked amused by Hye’s reaction. “About yesterday, I thought about your reason of wanting to join the ruler system” Hye answered, now with a serious face and tone. “And what is your conclusion?” He hadn’t seen it coming that Hye would come to him as soon as she woke up, Hye was normally the kind of person who would think everything through twice, scrap that, more like a hundredth times. But he supposed she might have been thinking about this long before yesterday.

“Hatred won’t change the ruler system, and other higher ups definitely won’t change anything either. We are basically the only ones who can really change things around here. I don’t understand why I couldn’t see that before.. and I’m sorry”
Kris his jaw fell open, of course he was expecting her to have found out that they are the only ones who can bring change, but that Hye would apologize is something he had never even dreamed of. “Hey! Don’t look so shocked! I know I don’t say those words a lot, but I do know what they mean” she puffed her cheeks feeling rather hurt by his shocked face. Kris let out a laugh and when he saw Hye’s pouting face he said “I know, I know, I just never would have thought I’d hear you say those words to me”. Kai silently watched the communication going, trying to understand everything that was being said and connecting dots together. “Are you two going to take over the whole ruler system?” Kai finally asked, a bit absently as it was more a question in his head and he hadn’t noticed he spoke the word out loud.

Kris shifted his eyes from Hye to Kai and confidently answered “Yes”.
