Chapter 3

Watch Over Me

“Jino-ah,” Hyukjae called out playfully while looking behind the TV and under the couch for the hiding toddler.
“Where are you?” Hyukjae continued to singsong as he walked through the living room. He walked right past the lamp that Jino was hiding behind pretending not to see him, even though the lamp was skinner than his arm, and he could clearly see Jino sitting down hiding his eyes behind his hands.
“Jino-ah, don’t hide from hyung, you’re making me sad,“ Hyukjae said, a carefully formed pout on his lips. Out of the corner off his eye he could see Jino turn his head in curiosity. He let out a small smile before he could help himself, and sunk to the floor, hiding his head in his arms to give the appearance that he was crying.
He even played it up with some over exaggerated sniffling noises. He knew his acting was terrible—his friends were kind enough to point it out to him continuously—and he was glad that this was Jino and not Kyuhyun he was trying to trick.
Not even a few seconds longer he heard the shuffling on the plush carpet. He peeked up a little to see Jino crawling over to him.
“Hyung?” he called, grabbing onto Hyukjae’s arm. “Hyung, don’ cry,” he started to pet Hyukjae’s head with his other hand. “Jino not hide from hyung.”
Hyukjae looked up to see Jino’s wide eyes staring at him.
“How do I know it’s really Jino?”
“It’s me! It’s Jino, hyung,” Jino whined shaking Hyukjae with his tiny hands.
“Well, the Jino I know is extremely… ticklish!” Hyukjae yelled as he pulled Jino into his lap and started to tickle his sides mercilessly. Jino let out yells and squeals in between his giggles as he wriggled around in Hyukjae grasp. Hyukjae laughed aloud as he tickled Jino, finding huge delight in the way Jino tried to laugh and catch his breath at the same time as he tried futilely to protect himself from Hyukjae’s fingers.
When Hyukjae finally decided to release the younger, he couldn’t hold back his laughter when Jino rolled out of his lap limply, before scrambling up and running away screaming. Hyukjae got up to chase him, managing to corner him under the table, but stopped when he heard the doorbell.
“I wonder who it is,” he said to himself as he walked to the front door. He peeked through the peephole, and saw someone standing in a uniform. He opened the door and was greeted by very sturdy looking man.
“Hello there, you must be Hyukjae-sshi. I’m Kim Youngwoon, but you can just call me Kangin. I’m Donghae’s personal driver.”
“Oh, well, it’s very nice to meet you, Kangin-sshi,” Hyukjae said, bowing politely. “Did Donghae forget something?” Hyukjae asked while he moved to the side to let Kangin in.
“No, he didn’t. He sent me to pick you up. He said something about some shopping you needed to get done,” Kangin said.
“Oh, that’s really not necessary. I’m really fine, and I’ve already gotten a  few things,” Hyukjae said in hopes that he would let it go.
“I’ve been told to make sure that you go, even if I have to use force,” Kangin said seriously, but had a teasing smile on his face.
Hyukjae couldn’t help but notice Kangin’s large stature and had a feeling he really had no choice in the matter. Hyukjae tried his best not to pout. Donghae must have known that Hyukjae was planning on not going shopping with his money and purposely sent this giant to come and get him.
Hyukjae sighed in defeat. “Fine. Just let me go get Jino ready,” he said, moving into the living room with Kangin right behind him.
“Gin hyung!” Jino yelled as he ran and attached himself to Kangin’s legs.
“Hey there kiddo,” Kangin said, reaching down and petting his hair affectionately.
“Jino-ah, do you want to go to the mall with hyung?” Hyukjae asked, as he leaned down to pick him up in his arms. Jino responded by nodding rapidly with a wide grin on his face.
After putting Jino’s shoes and jacket on, Kangin led the two down to the car where he had parked it outside of the apartment complex. Hyukjae made sure Jino was properly in his car seat before sitting in the passenger’s seat.
“I’m going to drop you two off at the mall while I pick up Kyuhyun from school. You can just call me when you’re done,” Kangin said as he pulled off.
“Why don’t I go with you to get Kyuhyun? He can go to the mall with us,” Hyukjae said.
“Sure thing,” Kangin said, making a u-turn and driving in the direction of Kyuhyun’s school.

Hyukjae stood outside of Kyuhyun’s school, scanning the crowd of children for the curly-haired one that belonged to him.
“Do you see him Jino-ah?” he asked as his eyes flickered from the crowd and down to the boy that was attached to his hand. Jino shook his head briefly before going back to the important task of looking for his big brother.
His eyes suddenly lit up as he spotted him and he released Hyukjae’s hand to run towards his unsuspecting hyung. Hyukjae turned to yell for Jino to come back, but when he saw the direction he was headed, he just decided to follow behind, a smile gracing his lips as he watched Jino connected almost painfully with the unsuspecting Kyuhyun.
“Ji-ah? What are you doing here?” he asked, looking at his grinning brother in confusion.
“Hyung and me come get you today!” he squealed happily as he clung to Kyuhyun’s shirt.
“Hyung? Really?” Kyuhyun questioned with wide eyes. Jino nodded and turned to point at Hyukjae who had walked up to the two.
  “Hi, Kyuhyun-ah,” he greeted.
“What are you doing here?” Kyuhyun couldn’t help but ask, a frown of confusion on his face.
  “Picking you up.”
“But… usually Kangin hyung picks me up.”
“Well, I wanted to come today with him today, so I’m here,” he smiled at Kyuhyun and ruffled the other’s hair, chuckling at the scowl he wore, even with the faint color on his cheeks. “Now let’s go,” Hyukjae said reaching to grab Kyuhyun and Jino’s hand.
“You don’t have to hold my hand,” Kyuhyun pouted, pulling weakly at Hyukjae’s hand, but the latter ignored his small protest and walked them back to the car. He put Jino into his car seat and was about to buckle Kyuhyun in, but the other pushed his hands away.
“I can do it. I’m a big boy, you know,” he said indignantly as buckled himself in and crossed his arms over his chest when he was finished. Hyukjae just smiled at his behavior and closed the door, moving so that he could sit in the passenger seat.

They arrived at the mall twenty minutes later. Kangin told Hyukjae he would wait outside for them and gave Hyukjae his number so that he could call him when they were ready. Hyukjae took each of the boy’s hands in his as he led them into the mall, sighing in relief when he noticed that there weren’t too many people. This would be his first time with them in a big place without Donghae, and he really didn’t think it would look too good if he lost the kids in the first week.
Hyukjae wandered around the mall, looking for a store where he could buy a few inexpensive things, just to appease Donghae. He had finally found one that looked reasonable so he walked in, placing Kyuhyun and Jino in some chairs at the front where he could keep an eye on them while he browsed.
He was looking through a rack of t-shirts when he felt a tug on his pants leg. Startled he looked down to see Jino looking up on him with a grin on his face as he peeked up at Hyukjae from up under the clothes.
“Jino-ah, why aren’t you sitting down, huh?” Hyukjae smiled as he leaned down to poke his cheek. “You’re supposed to be with Kyuhyun.”
“Kyu hyung told Jino to go with hyung,” he said, reaching up his hands so Hyukjae would pick him up.
“Why would he say that?” Hyukjae asked as he turned to the front, only to find the seats empty. “Oh my God. Kyuhyun!” Hyukjae called as he practically ran through the store looking in every nook and cranny for Kyuhyun.
“Excuse me, but did you see where the little boy who was sitting there went?” Hyukjae frantically asked one of the salesladies.
“I think I saw him walk out a few minutes ago,” she answered.
“Well, why didn’t you stop him?” Hyukjae tried to hold back his anger at her carelessness. “You just let a six-year-old wander around the mall by himself?!”
“I’m sorry, I just thought-“ but Hyukjae didn’t let her finish. He was already out of the store looking for any sign of Kyuhyun.
“Jino, did Kyuhyun say where he was going?” Hyukjae asked as he started jogging past the stores, eyes flickering here and there for Kyuhyun.
“Kyu hyung wan’ game for his ‘puter,” Jino said, as he clung to Hyukjae’s neck.
Hyukjae quickly ran to the large sign with the map of the mall on it, eyes scanning for the nearest game store. When he spotted it he took off running again, silently praying that no one had taken him.
He reached the store in record time, panting slightly from running the whole way while holding Jino. He quickly ran to the aisle marked ‘Computer Games’.
“Kyuhyun?” he called out, looking past all the other boys that were clogging up the aisle and feeling close to tears when he didn’t see him there.
He was just about to run out and find the next store when he heard a distinct high-pitched voice yelling about something. He turned quickly and saw Kyuhyun standing at the counter arguing with the cashier about something.
“I told you, just let me call my Hae hyung and he’ll pay for it!” he yelled, scowling fiercely at the teen behind the counter.
“Look, kid I told you I can’t do that. Why don’t you come back with an adult and then you can-“
“Kyuhyun!” Hyukjae cried, wrapping his hands around the shocked boy. “Oh Kyuhyun, don’t do that to me again!” Hyukjae said, tears of relief falling down his eyes. “Do you know how worried I was?”
“Oh… I’m sorry. I just… really wanted the new Star Craft game,” he said, and Hyukjae pulled back from the embrace, chuckling when he saw an uncharacteristic pout on the boy’s face.
“Then, I’ll buy you the game Kyuhyun-ah,” Hyukjae said as he wiped his eyes.
“Really?” Kyuhyun said, his eyes lighting up in absolute delight.
“Yeah, really, but only if you promise to never leave my side like that, okay?” Kyuhyun nodded vigorously.
  “I promise!” he said quickly.
Hyukjae could only smile tiredly as he stood up to pay for the game. Donghae did tell him to go shopping, and he couldn’t think of anything he wanted more than seeing the huge grin on Kyuhyun’s face when he handed him the game.
“How about we go get some lunch? Hyung needs to refill his energy,” he suggested to them as they left the game store, a big smile spreading across his face as he let them pull him to the food court.

Chapter 15: Oooooh this chapter breaks my heart. The ending with Hyuk and Kyu, and Hyuks moment with Donghae and this line "I cant lose them Hyukjae. I cant lose them too. I just cant." </3 oooohh Donghae, you poor baby...... :( all of it is like falling apart since Hyuk decided to go back huh.. and the chapter before this, I believe it was at the end when it said Donghae stopped at the door and while they were walking and Hyuk called him and he basically had to mask his true feelings into a smile .. Really made my heart drop, I feel Hae hurting alot more than he shows, wanting to not worry anybody and Especially if he had a fight with his brother or something before he died and never got to reconcile. That type of thing can haunt you and guilt can eat you alive.. So I hope Hyuk opens his eyes soon and see that all he need is them and he moves back in.. Such a good story, great chapter. Thank you for sharing!
