Part two: The New Girl

What is Love?

A/N: Well I will apologize for those who were waiting eagerly for me to continue this. I apologize. I lost inspiration. But luckily after listening to Troublemaker last night, inspiration sparked! I'm changing the style to third person to introduce more characters. I hope you like it. ^^

Part Two: The New Girl

Hyunseung was starting to daze off in class as his thoughts wandered elsewhere. He was starting to remembering the girl from before and scoffed at the idea that the feeling that the girl bestowed upon him was 'love at first sight'. It was merely an attraction. He would have to be blind or stupid to not form an attraction from the girl. She was a real beauty if he remembered correctly. Dark brown hair. y curves. Pouty pink lips. She was definitely something else and maybe that's why she lingers in his mind longer than any other girl. There was something about her that was a mystery to Hyunseung. He could easily tell what kind of person a person is upon the first impression, but with her...she was a mystery.

He was intrigued and that was a rare thing for Hyunseung. He glanced out the window and wondered if he would see her again, But he knew that possiblity was a long shot away. Life isn't a drama.

After the fourth period bell rang, Hyunseung glanced away from the window and walked out to meet Yoseob and Doojoon in the hallway. His friends were talking among themselves when he arrived. "Hyunseung, guess what! Yoseob's class has a new student."

"A new student." Hyunseung repeated indifferently, not caring why he should be excited about a new student.

Doojoon was excited enough for the both of them anyway as he couldn't hold how happy he was. He started to joke that maybe this year he will finally have a girlfriend.

Hyunseung's eyes lighted up for reasons beyond him. "It's a girl? The new student?"

Yoseob nodded. "Yeah. Amber's showing her where the gym is and I have to meet them later during lunch to help the transition so you will probably see her sooner than later." Doojoon smiled at that and asked. "Why are you helping her anyway?"

"I'm class president. Helping the new students is part of the duties.

"Is she pretty?" Doojoon asked.

Yoseob shrugged with a "I don't know" as Suzy appeared behind him, putting her hands around his hips, asking ."Who's pretty?" Yoseob jumped a little from the touch and turned around.

Yoseob looked at her sweetly, squeezing Suzy beside him as he placed his arm around her. "You." He answered. She smiled at him sweetly, giving him a small peck on the lips and then pulled away. "So who were you guys really talking about?"

"The new girl." Hyunseung and Yoseob both informed her.

"Ah really! I saw her a moment ago and she is indeed pretty." She looked at Doojoon. "You must be excited."

Doojoon chuckled lightly, a little embarrassed by how excited he was for someone he haven't even met yet. "I'm too excited that what happens if there is no sparks."

"You're just overthinking it, Doojoon." Suzy said. "If there are sparks then awesome. If not, then it's okay. You will live."

"But first you have to meet her before thinking all of that." Hyunseung stated.

"Geez, I know you guys are thinking I'm being too much but out of the three of us, I have never have a girlfriend once. I would like one before I leave this school."

"It isn't all that great." Hyunseung informed. "A girlfriend."

"Don't listen to him, Doojoon. Hyunseung is just being a sourpuss like always. I love that you are always looking for someone to fall in love with." Suzy declared.

"I'm not a sourpuss." Hyunseung uttered, which Suzy gave him the "yes you are" look.

Yoseob looked at Doojoon and spoke. "Having a girlfriend is always a different experience for different people. Hyunseung, here just have crappy ex-girlfriends who were honestly not nice people. While look at me." Doojoon looked at both Suzy and Yoseob. "We're happy and one day you will have that. Just be patient."

"That's why I failed at these stuff. I'm too impatient."

"We're just high schooler. It's okay to not have a girlfriend."

"Said the guy with the girlfriend." Doojoon uttered as the bell for start of fifth period rang.

Hyungseung would be lying if he didn't say he was curious about the new girl. There is always that mysterious aura that new students bring with them. They bring questions and a certain status to the classroom. The news of a new girl transfering already spread to everyone within the school and they all have the same question on their mind. Who exactly is she? And whether having her here will upset the ranking that was already established.

Hyunseung would care less about the latter as it was pointless to get caught into that ranking world where being in the top ten was like being a god. No one wants to mess with you.

When it came time for lunch, Hyunseung decided to skip the lunchroom, where the whisperings and spying of the new girl was taking place. He told Doojoon if he wanted to join him, but Hyunseung knew Doojoon wanted to see her so he headed toward the roof for some peace and quiet. As he walked toward his usual spot, he reached for the paperback in his pocket and made his way to his spot when he discovered someone was already sitting there. He wondered who would dare take his spot when everyone knows he practically live there during school hours.

He walked closer and found that the someone was a girl. He sincerely hoped it wasn't one of his exes or someone who likes him. He wasn't in the mood for that, especially during lunch. He hated giving out rejections so early in the day.

"Excuse me but you're in my spot." He stated, approaching the girl, who was listening to her iPod. She didn't respond and continued listening when Hyunseung yelled, kicking the stool for her attention. "Yah, you're in my spot." He noticed she wasn't wearing the school uniform and wondered if this was the infamous new girl.

Her eyes lingered his way as she turned her head to face him. Hyunseung easily recognized her. The girl with the dark brown hair, y curves and pouty pink lips. If he wasn't already annoyed, he would have been pleased to see her again. What a shame? He thought.

She lifted her headphone from her ears "So?" She declared. Hyunseung scoffed, but didn't say anything. "Is your name written here or something?" She inquired.

"And if it is, will you move?"

She scoffed. "Wow.....seeing how confident you are. It must be."

Hyunseung pointed toward the stool. "Jang Hyunseung is my name and you could see my name there clearly, don't you."

The girl glanced to where Hyunseung was pointing to and there it was, written in red marker. Jang Hyunseung is jjang. She couldn't actually believed it would be there. What is with the jjang? Is this guy full of himself or something? She thought.

"So are you going to move?"

"I've never said I would though." She stated.

"Hmm....well I don't want to be rude but..."

"Why are you so attach to this spot? The roof is actually pretty big and there are a lot of spaces so why can't you read your little book somewhere else if you saw I was here?"

"I get that...but this is where I always go."

"A change of scenery is good you know."

Hyunseung stared at her. "You're not going to give up this spot....no matter what."

"I'm glad you understand that." She wittfully smiled. "I was here first, so why should I move."

"Well obviously you weren't really here first...hence my name written there."

She glanced back at the red written words. "What's with the anyway? Do you really think that highly of yourself?"

"I didn't write it if that what you mean."

From her expression, Hyunseung could tell she didn't believe him. "Ah...you're that guy." She said.

Hyunseung knew the answer to the question he was about to say aloud, and it didn't stop him from asking it. "What guy?"

"That guy....you know, the guy that girls fawn over and always get what he wants no matter what."

"Obviously I can't be that guy if I can't get what I really want right now."

Hyunseung watched her formed a smirk when he spoke as if she was impressed by his comeback against her. "Touche." He heard her spoke.

"You know what." Hyunseung began to speak as she gazed at him, interested in what he has to say. "You can keep this spot all to yourself."

"I didn't figure you to be a quitter."

"Well....what you say is true. Girls do fawn over me...a little too much for my liking. So a change of scenery would actually be good for me."

She looked at him. "Then..."

"Then...I guess you can cross that off and write....well your name instead. If that's what you want to do." He turned around and walked away toward a different spot.

She watched him as she placed her headphone back on and pressed play.  Her eyes lingered toward the red letters and then toward where Hyunseung settled at. Her fingers touched the written words and she couldn't help but smiled lightly, thinking this school might not be as bad she thought.

Hyunseung must have fallen asleep while reading his book as he opened his eyes to the blazing sunlight. He groaned at the sight and rise up, dropping his book to the ground. He stared at the book and wondered what time it was. He reached for his phone and saw it was almost 2:00. "Crap, I missed the English test."

He began to walk toward the door when his eyes lingered toward the spot he gave up during lunch. The new girl wasn't there anymore. He was starting to wonder why he gave the spot for her. It was strange thing for him to do. He's never the kind of guy to do something like that. He decided to not think too much about it and walked down back to his classroom.

On his way, he ran into Amber, who was holding about 100 notebooks in her hands. He looked at her and immediately grabbed more than half of the notebooks. Amber protested as always. "Yah, I don't remember asking for your help Hyunseung."

"You didn't have to." Hyunseung said walking ahead of her.

"Well thanks."

"No problem." Hyunseung smiled. Amber looked at him, kind of taken back. "Did something good happen to you?" She asked.

"No. Why do you ask?"

"You're smiling." She replied as if that was such a rare sighting.

"You act as if I don't smile."

"You don't usually smile in daylight."

Most people would be offend by that comment but Hyunseung didn't really care and shrugged it off. "It must have been the fact that I was asleep for two hours on the roof."

"Ah...that must be it then." She said. "You do seem more relax than before."

"Anyway, why isn't your class president helping you out with these? Is Yoseob taking advantage of your kindness, Amber? Cuz if he is, I could talk to him for you."

Amber stared at him. "This is why people think we are dating, you know." She stated quietly.  Hyunseung looked at her, strangely. "Are people thinking that?" He asked. She nodded.

"Myungsoo isn't going to like that." He declared.

Amber sighed. "People are mean. Just because we hang out a lot they start to think I'm cheating on him and those idiot fans of his keep telling him that I'm flirting with you. Can you believe that?"

"Does he believe them? Cuz we are just friends. I mean you're like a sister to me."

Amber didn't say anything as they approached the teacher lounge. "Amber. He will get over it. They are just rumors. Stupid rumors and I'm sorry."

"Don't be sorry. I should have realized that I have been hanging out with you too much."

"We're friends. What's wrong with that?"

Amber looked at him. "Nothing. You helped me alot and I'm not ashamed of that. But I feel like if I want to keep my relationship with Myungsoo, I can't be around you." Hyunseung looked at her painfully as she grabbed back the notebooks. "Thanks for helping me." She said, before walking in. Hyunseung didn't know what to say at the situation. He just lost a friend, a good friend.

He turned around to walk back to class when he discovered the new girl from the roof behind him. Judging from her facial expression, she heard everything between Amber and him. She quickly looked away and Hyunseung just walked passed her, irritated.

She looked back to Hyunseung. She couldn't help but feel kind of sorry for listening, but he shouldn't give such a nasty look. It wasn't like she was listening on purpose. This was the second time already she has met him and every time he always makes her irritable.

She shouldn't let him get to her anyway. The school is really big and meeting him again for a third time would be unlikely.

Before she could get lost in her own thoughts, someone called out her name. "Hyuna." She turned around and said. "Appa."

JiYong stared at the building in front of him and hestiated, stopping at the entrance. He was regretting his decison to come, knowing it would be uncomfortable for everybody if he comes. He sighed at the thought and decided to not be a coward and walked through. Eyes belonging to old classmates were on him. He said his hellos and made his way to the room where the respects were being held. He walked to the alter and stared at the picture of the decreased and placed the white carnation in front of the picture of a young man who seemed to look around JiYong's age.

Before bowing, his eyes slightly glanced toward the young woman on his far right. JHe lowered his head and  prayed quietly as he bowed. He gathered up and turned to the decreased's family. "Ahjumma, I'm deeply sorry." He stated. The ahjumma smiled lightly.

"I'm glad you came. I'm sorry you have to see him like this after so long, JiYong. You were his dear friend throughout his entire childhood. It's a shame that it became like this" She reached for his hand and held it tightly. JiYong apologized for being too late as well and turned to leave when his eyes lingered on the young woman again. He could tell she was trying not to cry but the moment she spotted JiYong, she couldn't bear it anymore. She walked away before JiYong could utter a word.

JiYong knew the ahjumma was displeased by the action of the young woman and looked at JiYong, knowing he was the cause. JiYong bidded his goodbyes again and left to find the young woman. After a couple of minutes, he found her. She was swatting with her head buried in her knees, crying. Jiyong looked at her sorrowfully before approaching her.

"What are you doing...swatting here instead of being inside?" Her eyes grew big when she saw him standing above her. She immediately wiped her tears away. JiYong's eyes instantly lingered toward her wedding ring. She stood up and looked at him.

"Oppa...You came." She said quietly.

"You're okay?"

She nodded. "Oppa is probably smiling right now in heaven because he got to see you again...even though it likes this."

JiYong didn't know what to say. "You're okay though....seeing me here?"

She looked at him, knowing why he would ask such a thing. She remembered telling him to not interfere with her life anymore. How she grew out of love with him and fell for someone else. She braved a smile for him. "Of course you should be here. You guys were friends long before me...." she stopped midway, immediately regretting what she just said. "Any case, you shouldn't mind how I feel."

JiYong starred at her. He just realized how little she changed since he lasted saw her. "I should get back before my mom starts looking for me." She started to make her way back, but turned around to face him again. "JiYong oppa, thank you for coming. It means alot to me and I'm not just saying that."

"Go back in before you catch a cold." He replied.

She smiled and said. "Eat before you go, okay?" He nodded and watched the girl he once loved walked away from him.

Doojoon and Yoseob were chatting outside by the basketball courts when Hyunseung arrived with his other friend Junhyung. "Yah, you're late." Yoseob stated, throwing the ball at Hyunseung. "Hyunseung is to blame. ." Junhyung said, dropping his gym bag beside theirs. "He have to stop by the quad to see Myungsoo and it took forever."

Both Doojoon and Yoseob looked at Hyunseung. "Kim Myungsoo?" They both asked.

"Yeah." Junhyung said., while Hyunseung ignored them as he set his gym bag down.

"Why?" The two asked.  Junhyung looked at Hyunseung, wondering if he was going to tell them. Junhyung was surprised by what he overheard and he would have never guessed Hyunseung would go in person to disperse rumors. He figured since it involved a dear friend, Hyunseung wasn't going let it ruin her life.  It was because of these moments you could truly value having a loyal friend like Jang Hyunseung.

"It was nothing worth repeating." Hyunseung said and reached for the basketball. "We're playing ball or what." He started dribbing the ball and shot straight into the hoop. Junhyung immediately joined him as both Doojoon and Yoseob gave each other a look before joining their friends.

Hyuna listened to what her father had to say but her mind began to grift elsewhere. "Hyuna, are you listening to me?"

Hyuna looked at her father and nodded. "I understand."

"Good. It's already your first day and you skipped two periods of English. We talked about this."

"Actually you talked about it, Appa. I didn't have a say in the matter or else I would in New York with Omma."

Her father sighed, "I told you why you can't go to New York. I thought you understood that."

"I don't need English anyway. I already have a high score."

"That isn't the point, Hyuna. I transferred you here for a fresh start. Why can you at least make a little effort?"

Hyuna stared at her plate of food before looking over to her father. His hair was becoming more gray and white every time she sees him. She's always stressing him out and she felt sorry for that, but she doesn't belong in Seoul. When her father mentioned a fresh start, she thought New York with her mother. Away from the all the people who hurt her and ridiculed her endlessly. Not a school in a different district.

Therefore, she wished her father could stop grilling her about making an effort so soon. The students were the same as her old school. It didn't matter what district it was, Seoul kids were all the same. Well she can't really say they all the same. She met kind people so far...except for that Jang Hyunseung. He wasn't kind, but then again she did provoke him. She didn't mean to such a pain about the spot on the roof. She was already comfortable and didn't want to move because the jjang of the school (she presumed he is the jjang king of that school)  wanted his spot back. She felt she has to stand against him. She was starting to regret her action. She was being too much.

Like what her father always said, "She's too stubborn for her own good".

"I'll try, Appa." She reluctantly smiled.

Her father smiled warmly. "As long as you tried, you will have a wonderful last year of high school. That's all I want." Hyuna looked at him and just smiled to reassure her father.

After playing for two hours straight, Hyunseung headed toward the bench to catch his breath. Junhyung and Doojoon followed, whereas, Yoseob grabbed his gym bag, placing it on his shoulder. "I'll see you later." He spoke.

"You're leaving already?" Doojoon asked.

"Yeah, I'm meeting Suzy so see you gents later." Yoseob waved goodbyes and walked toward the steets. Hyunseung resumed back to drinking his water, when he overheard Junhyung talked about the new girl. "So did you meet her? The new girl?"

Doojoon shook her head. "Nope."

"Why not?" Junhyung asked.

Doojoon shrugged. "She wasn't at lunchroom when I stopped by and I asked Yoseob about it and he said she wanted to explore on her own."

Hyunseung glanced at him and remembered what happened at the roof during lunch. Should he mention that he met her? He kept his eyes on Doojoon as he revealed how he was slightly disappointed not meeting her, but he heard rumors about her. "They weren't nice rumors either."

"What kind of rumors were they? Did you get kick out of her old school or something?" Junhyung inquired with curiousity.

From the look on Doojoon's face, Hyunseung could tell the rumors were the kinds that people like to gossip about. He could never understand why people would be willing to ruin someone's life in such a way. Especially girls. He was suddenly reminded of Amber.

"Why should it matter what kind of rumors they were? Even if they were true, you shouldn't spread them and wreck people's life. I hate gossipers." Hyunseung uttered, walking away angrily.

Doojoon watched Hyunseung leaves. "What's with him?"

Junhyung sighed. "You didn't hear?"

"Hear what?"

"There's a rumor that Amber is cheating on Myungsoo with Hyunseung."

"What?!" Junhyung just nodded. "But that's clearly not true!" Doojoon exploded. "Hyunseung would never!"

"I know that. We know that. The whole school probably even know that. But rumors doesn't need to be true to spread."

"Is that why he in such a foul mood?"

"Amber told him that Myungsoo doesn't believe her and so..."

"He met Kim Myungsoo to clear Amber's name." Doojoon didn't know what to say. He suddenly felt so foolish. He knew how much Hyunseung hates people who spread rumors about other people, and there he was about to spread rumors about the new girl. He sighed in frustration.

Hyunseung ignored the buzzing of his cellphone and continued walking home to where he found his hyung in a drunken state. He wasn't sure for a second if the person he was seeing was indeed JiYong. He had to sprint his eyes to be sure. "Hyung!" He called out.

JiYong turned around when he heard his name and looked at see Hyunseung standing behind him. "Oh look! It's Hyunseung-ie."

"Hyung, are you drunk?" Hyunseung asked, slightly worried and slightly amused. He have never saw his brother in such a state before. From what he knows, JiYong doesn't get drunk.

"Nah." JiYong waved off before losing his balance. Hyunseung grabbed a hold of him. "Yeah, you're drunk alright."

By the time, Hyunseung arrived home with JiYong, their mother was waiting for them. Her facial expression fell when she saw the JiYong.  "What happened?"

Hyunseung shrugged. "I found him like this on the way home." His mother touched JiYong's cheek, worried.

"Take him to his room before your father comes home." She ordered and Hyunseung followed through. He made sure JiYong have a bucket beside his bed as well as an aspirn and water. He looked at his hyung for a moment, wondering what happened at the funeral he attended.

JiYong tossed around, muttering something that Hyunseung can't make out. Hyunseung sighed. "We both have a crappy day, didn't we.....sleep dream, Hyung." Hyunseung closed the lights, and stumbled into his room to sleep as well.
