Bonding with My Sister-in-Law 1

Breaking Boundaries

Yuri’s POV

Everything seemed to fall back to where they belong. Sica and I got back together as well as Amber and Krystal. But it’s just five days away until our short vacation ends and we had to go back to China for work. I was thinking of furthering my studies by applying for a graduate program in Hongkong but since Sica and I got back together, I decided to do it here in Seoul. I just had to talk to go back with Amber for a while and thank her parents for taking me in, as well as hand in my resignation letter at work. Yeah, I worked with Amber in their company to earn money on my own. I just saved enough for my family in the countryside and for my two-year Masters degree.

In Amber’s case, she really had to go back or her father would kill her. Uncle Liu was really scary and I could say that he’s one hell of a control freak. I felt sorry for Amber; she had to do everything that her father says. Though I know that she would choose to stay here in Korea, continue her chemist career and live a simple happy life with Krystal, her parents wouldn’t let her go anymore. Oh well, the miracle of Amber being allowed to go back to her life here in Seoul could still happen.

Princess Jessica Jung fell deeply in love with me and waited for me for two years is one proof that miracles do exist, right?

I was preparing some homemade burgers in my newly bought studio unit when my phone rang. The call wasn’t from my Sica baby who I assumed to be at school at the moment but from Krystal who just came back with Amber from Busan yesterday.

“Hello, dongsaeng.”

“Unnie! I’m so glad you picked up my call. You have no idea how bored I am,” she told me from the other line and her boredom was really evident in her voice.

“Where’s Amber? You guys should be together everytime to make up the two years you lost.”

“I know right. But the dork told me she has to meet someone important. Seriously? Is there someone more important than me in her life?!”

There goes again the overly jealous little Jung. It sounded fishy though, how could Amber say that it’s someone important when her girlfriend could kill her literally. Maybe a crucial business partner?

“Don’t think too much. Maybe she’s actually preparing something to surprise you,” I said to calm her down. “Okay, I’ll call Amber to check out what she’s up to.”

“Never mind. I trust her. Unnie, are you busy? Can we meet right now? I have to tell you something.”

Maybe hanging out with my ‘little sister’ wouldn’t be bad. And she sounded worried just now.

“Alright, I’ll meet you at Myeongdong then.”

We agreed to meet at a cafe which Krystal particularly chose. It was a perfect place to relax and the Peppermint Mocha Frappe there was daebak. I was halfway done with my drink when Krystal came. As expected for the little princess Jung, she came late.

“Oh Yuri unnie, you’re early,” she told me and sat comfortably across me.

“It’s not that I’m early, you’re just late.”

“Well, I might eat dinner with Amber tonight so I changed outfit first,” she simply replied. No wonder why she looked fresh and elegant for a girl who just came from school. She called the waiter and ordered a mango shake.

“So what is this important thing you want to tell me?”

The bubbly Krystal Jung just now fell silent all of a sudden. Her smile faded and turned into a frown. She looked at me with worried and confused eyes that I couldn’t help but wonder what’s going on.

“Amber introduced me to her sister the other night. And...” Krystal paused, looking so confused and finding the right words to say.

“And what?”

Introducing Krystal to Jackie was a good move for Amber at a time like this. She had to successfully build a strong foundation for their relationship and getting Jackie’s approval of Krystal would help a lot because sooner or later, Amber has to introduce Krystal to her parents too.

I almost spit my drink when she finally told me.

“Jackie unnie wants Amber and me to get married.”

Krystal’s POV

The thought of what Jackie said made me sleepless for two nights already. Yes, marriage, I never thought she would bring up such a thing on our first meeting. It’s not that I don’t like the idea but isn’t it just too soon? I mean, Amber and I had to make it up to each other for the time we had lost. We had lots of catching up to do and we wouldn’t be able to do it anymore after we got married.

Good thing that Amber looked like she didn’t have any plans yet. She told me that her sister was just kidding and I should ignore what she said but why did Jackie actually look so serious when she told me that? She even looked at me with hopeful eyes.

Aish, I’m gonna go crazy!

I couldn’t keep this inside anymore; I needed someone to talk to. But Jessica unnie would freak out for sure considering how much she wanted to kill Amber at the moment. What more if it’s about us getting married? On the other hand, Vic unnie went straight to Maldives after a night in Busan with Nichkhun oppa, I couldn’t ruin their honeymoon by calling her. And the llama, she just dismissed our exchange of messages earlier when she told me she had to meet someone important. That idiot, who’s more important than her beloved girlfriend then?!

In the end, I decided to try calling Yuri unnie. I heard she got back together with my sister and it’s the perfect time to discuss what really happened for the last two years. She might give me some advices about the marriage thing too.

“Jackie unnie wants Amber and me to get married,” I told her. Yuri unnie looked surprised at first but recovered quickly.

“Isn’t that a good thing? It seems that Jackie likes you a lot to the point that she wants you to be Amber’s wife.”

“But it’s too sudden. Marriage hasn’t come into my mind yet and I’m glad Amber didn’t ask me about it. I wanted to take our relationship slowly and make it up to her. It’s better like this, right?”

Yuri unnie just raised an eyebrow at me and slightly shook her head before taking a sip of her drink. “But what if Amber wants to get married? I hope you won’t reject her if ever.”

“No, Amber can’t be thinking about it now. She told me it’s not yet time.”

“Then shouldn’t you be worried that she doesn’t want to marry you?”

I fell silent for a while. Yuri unnie had a point there, what if Amber doesn’t really want to marry me? Aish. I shouldn’t have called her, now my mind is in a total mess!

“Time will come for us, unnie. When that time comes, Amber won’t get a ‘no’ for answer when she proposes,” I assured her.

“Aish. It looks like you have thought about it well, why else did you ask me to meet you? Don’t you know I’m cooking homemade burgers for Sica? Your sister is craving for burgers!” Yuri unnie protested like a child.

“But I know your cravings more, unnie. You’re craving for my sister,” I teased and laughed so hard when I saw how her face blushed. She looked unusually shy and it was really funny. Haha!

From what I heard about Yuri unnie from Amber, she’s a player and a total ert. But everytime I think about it, maybe Amber just described herself, that llama’s more of a player and a ert between them! Or maybe Yuri unnie changed for my sister? Well, that’s change for the better.

“Ooooh, someone’s embarrassed. Don’t tell me you haven’t done it yet?” I kidded but when she hung her head low and nodded shyly, my mouth fell open. “Are you serious, unnie? Amber and I had done it for like so many times! You’re both at the right age and it’s not like you’re inexperienced because from what I heard—

“Stop! Gosh, Krystal. What time is it? We shouldn’t be talking about such stuffs this early. Besides you’re sister and I should be the one telling this to you, not the other way around.”

“Because you’re so slow, unnie. I can’t believe you don’t find my sister attractive.” I really couldn’t understand her. They should have done it at the night they got back together like Amber and me. I can’t believe someone resisted the appeal of the Jungs.

“I find her attractive and she turns me on too but—aish. Never mind, you won’t understand.” Yuri unnie looked serious just now and I could tell that she had her own reason why she couldn’t do it yet. Maybe she’s just finding the right time? After marriage maybe?

It looks like you have to wait a little more, Jessica unnie.

“But unnie, don’t you think that maybe Jessica unnie wants to do it too?”

“We’ll get there, Krys. Just like what you said about your marriage, we’ll do it in time.”

Aish, why does she sound like a when she’s not?

“And Krystal, if Jackie said that she wants you and Amber to get married, she really meant it. If you just said yes, she could have sent you to the States and you could be Krystal Liu right now.”

Yuri unnie had an easy way out when she brought back that topic. Really, meeting her wasn’t a good idea. What if Amber and I actually decided to go with Jackie’s idea? We couldn’t be possibly married right now, right? We had to talk to my parents, yes, my parents! And they would kill us for sure. They haven’t meet Amber, they have no idea that their precious daughter is currently in a relationship with a girl. As for Amber’s parents, I don’t know if Amber ever mentioned me to them but still we have to ask for their approval.

Krystal Jung, did you just think of getting your parents’ approval for marriage?

“Unnie, if you stayed with Amber in China, you could have met her parents, right? What are they like? Do you think they will like me?”

Come to think of it, Amber never really mentioned her family to me. Jackie was nice and friendly towards me, I wonder if their parents would treat me the same? But my eyebrows scrunched when I heard Yuri unnie’s answer.

“Uh, I don’t think they’ll want to meet you, Krys.”

Won’t they like me for their Amber?

“And I don’t think they won’t let you be with Amber either.”

Yuri’s POV

Damn, my tongue slipped. Amber told me not to mention her life in China, especially about her parents, to Krystal. She hates being the Liu Yiyun. Well, there’s nothing wrong with being filthy rich unless you have parents who don’t treat you as their child but an heir to their fortune.

But Krystal just asked about the Lius and it was my entire fault. I tried so hard escaping from her interrogations about why I haven’t done it with Sica yet. To be honest, I really wanted to but I promised myself to touch her only after marriage. I didn’t want her to regret it, knowing how delicate she was. She could be a for heaven’s sake. Jessica Jung is special and I don’t want to treat her like those girls I met before.

I love you and I respect you, Sica. I can wait for the right time.

“Unnie! Why won’t they let me be with Amber?! I love their daughter so much, isn’t that enough?”

Aish, this kid is interrupting my daydream.

“Krystal—

“Are they not in favour of same- relationship?”

“It’s not—

“Do they like someone else for Amber?”

Krystal looked at me with worried eyes. I couldn’t believe she took it seriously. Well, I was serious with what I stated about Amber’s parents anyway. But with little Jung being stressed out by what I said, Amber would kill me for sure.

Do Uncle and Aunty Liu like someone else Amber? They surely do have someone in mind considering how their minds work, but I think they would marry off Jackie first since she’s the first born. That’s how chaebol families work, right? Oh no, Kryber should be married before the worse thing happens!

“I knew it. They like someone else,” Krystal said weakly. The lively princess a while ago wilted on her seat and looked really saddened by her own realization.

Oh dear god, this couple is driving me crazy.

“Haha! You fell for that? I was just kidding you know. Amber’s parents will like you for sure. They’re the best parents ever,” I told Krystal, trying to cheer her up with a lie. She looked at me doubtfully.

“You’re just trying to make me feel better.”

“Look, they’re kind-hearted people. They took me in when I arrived in China,” I uttered carefully hiding the sarcasm in my voice. Amber actually pleaded on her knees to let me stay with her because her parents didn’t want any outsider in their mansion.

“But that doesn’t mean they will take me in either.”

Aish, Kwon Yuri. Look at what you’ve done. Little Jung just lost her confidence.

“Krystal, all parents want the best for their children. Amber’s parents are no difference, they want the best for Amber and you are the best for her.”

With that, Krystal finally lightened up with a smile. “You’re the best for Jessica unnie too.”

And it was my turn to smile.

Just when I looked outside the glass window, I spotted a head-turning couple walking together not far from the cafe. They were both dressed in smart casual wear: the black-haired guy in blue faded pants and black shirt topped with a black and white striped jacket, the blonde girl in gray skinny jeans, plain white V-neck shirt topped with green trench coat. Both were wearing sunglasses and walking slightly apart from each other.

Oooh, dating idols I guess? The girl just looked like my Jessica and they both walk like a boss. It’s funny that the other guy looked like Amber too. Their hair colours are different but they have the same body built and dorky walk. No, they can’t be. Sica baby is at school, Amber has a meeting but...

“What the hell are they doing here?!” Krystal blurted out all of a sudden, eyes at the same direction I was looking at. I thought my eyes were just deceiving me but Krystal confirmed it.

Oh yeah, what are they doing here?!

Krystal’s POV

Amber said she couldn’t meet me before 6pm and Jessica unnie’s class would end at 5pm. They couldn’t possibly be together right here, right now when it’s just 4pm. But those two people who just walked past the cafe looked exactly like them. They’re no doppelganger, it was really them! And when did the blonde llama coloured her hair back to black?

“What the hell are they doing here?!” I searched for an answer from Yuri unnie who was still in a daze while looking outside. I was so sure she saw the same thing.

“Is that really Amber and Sica Baby? Why are they here?”

“We won’t know if we don’t follow them.”

They couldn’t be dating, right? How could they cheat on me and Yuri unnie? Stupid dork, I’ll kill you for sure if you get caught!

I stood up first and headed for the door to follow them. When I felt Yuri unnie just behind me, I grabbed her hand to run after the couple but my heels prevented me to do so.

“Aish! Why do I have to wear these stilettos at a moment like this?”

“Hop in, Krys. We have no time to waste,” Yuri unnie told me. She was then bending in front of me for a piggy back ride and I didn’t hesitate to ride on her back.

Yuri unnie surprisingly lifted me easily and like she wasn’t carrying someone on her back, she quickly ran after them until they’re only several feet away. Just by looking at their backs, I confirmed that it was my sister with Amber. They walked silently like they’re not together until Amber finally talked to my unnie. My sister just nodded and both of them entered the nearest cafe.

“Are they out on a date?!” I couldn’t help but get jealous. Amber wouldn’t do such a thing as cheating especially with my sister but how come she lied that she had to meet someone important? Is my sister that important to her?!

I was about to march towards the cafe but Yuri unnie stopped me from doing so. She looked pretty calm but jealousy was evident in her eyes. Who wouldn’t be jealous knowing that those two had something in the past? Amber told me once that she used to have a crush on my sister too.  Aish.

“Let’s just stay here and watch. We can’t assume that they’re really out on a date,” she told me with a forced smile. Aigoo, how can she still smile at a time like this?

Luckily, Amber and Jessica unnie sat beside the glass window that we could see them from the outside. They removed their glasses and confirmed us that they were really who we thought they were. I watched Amber left my sister on the table and came back with two cups of iced coffee before settling across her.

“They’re just going to talk. Yes, that’s it. They can’t be out on a date like a real couple,” Yuri unnie said but it was more of addressed to herself. Yes, she’s jealous but not the type who would start a war like me. Oh yes, I would start a bloody war and kill that dork mercilessly if ever.

Yuri unnie and I stood hidden behind a tree and watched them from the outside. Just like what she said, Amber and my sister just talked. But what made me flinch was when Jessica unnie laughed as Amber talked.

Why the hell are you laughing, unnie? I thought you’re going to kill that llama.

“Oh they’re talking about something funny. I guess Amber’s lame jokes are effective to Sica.” I really admire Yuri unnie’s optimism. If not for her, maybe I have caused a ruckus inside the cafe already.

The expression on their faces suddenly changed and both of them suddenly turned serious. It just made me itch out of curiosity. And I fired up when Jessica unnie held the top of Amber’s hand which was resting on the table just then.

“Ok, that’s it! I’m really going to kill those two!”

“Krystal, no!”

Ignoring Yuri unnie, I marched towards the cafe entrance.

“UNNIE! DON’T TOUCH MY AMBER!”
