My Old Story - IU

Happiness

Sehun was in a point of nowhere.

The night sky was painted eminence, swallowing the whole town with darkness. The air was cold, almost on par with early winter. The atmosphere was silent, too silent that the usual quiet coos of owls seemed louder than necessary.

Amidst the lifeless situation where he was in however, the full moon was shining brightly and the stars were twinkling around it, decorating the heavens with its daintiness.

People around the town were already asleep, looking forward to the day that was yet to come. The only exception was Sehun, whose eyes and consciousness refused to give in to the night. The beauty of the dark was properly illuminated by the opened window of his room, but instead of feeling good about it, an entirely different emotion was overwhelming him.

Misery.

It was one which he couldn’t seem to run away from. One that refused to leave him alone. He had never felt an emotion for as long as how he was feeling at that moment. It was a feat to be considered, knowing him, who was never a gloomy person.

Yet he was only a human being too. Sehun had his limits too.

No matter how bright of a person he was, how he had refused to let the negativity affect him, there will still be a point in time where everything becomes too much for him to bear. And it was exactly what was happening to him. The final straw had been pulled out and his emotion levels had gone disastrous.

For the past three weeks, he had been too depressed to even come out of his own room. It was as if all of his energy was nowhere to be found that all he did was snuggle in the comfort of his bed. He liked what he was doing though, for after what happened, nothing ever seemed to give him comfort anymore, except for being alone.

No one could blame him however, for it was only natural for him to act that way. After all, the person he loved the most lied to him. The person he trusted the most betrayed him.

Aerin and Luhan hurt him.

Saying that Sehun was hurt would be understated. It was much, much more than that. The pain was too excruciating that every little thing only reminded him of the past. That time when they first met and still hated each other’s presence. That time when they proved to each other that they’re not half as bad by successfully becoming friends. That time when they were slowly learning about each other, gauging each other’s feelings for possibilities and prospects.

And that time when they actually fell in love. That time when they were officially together.

Every little detail was etched in Sehun’s heart, unable to forget even a sliver of it, for they were the best memories that he had. They were the happiest memories that he ever had out of his nineteen years of living. Ones of which he treasured the most.

But with the happiness that came with it, the pain was only doubled.

Frankly speaking, it wasn’t about being lied or betrayed to anymore. Sure, he was really hurt because of it, but it was already done. Life didn’t have any undo command. The past can’t ever be changed anymore. It hurt him initially, but the three weeks of being alone did him justice and let him realize that mulling over the past won’t make things any better. That by pondering over what happened, he was only making the situation much worse.

The real reason why he was currently hurting was because he was so clueless. Sehun didn’t know what will happen and he was so scared of it. For once, he actually feared the fact that the future would always be a mystery. Even if he always thought of the present first, at that moment, the future was only thing that he was thinking of, for anything beyond his knowledge and desire could happen.

He was so scared that he might possibly lose Aerin, and that thought alone utterly pained him.

He wanted to talk to her again, to have endless conversations over the phone and laugh over the smallest of things. He wanted to play outside with her again, strolling along the shores of Haeundae Beach with iced bubbled teas in their hands. He wanted to drive around the neighbourhood with her again, relishing on the sceneries as they listen to old country music. He wanted to lay down on the sands with her again, and just cherish the moment as they look out for stars that were brightly shining across the night sky.

Sehun didn’t care about the past anymore. All he wanted was to be with Aerin again and nothing else.

Yet he couldn’t bring himself to face her. He couldn’t bring himself to talk to her. It didn’t matter if he might’ve looked like a coward and unmanly, but after what happened, if he meets her again, it would probably be the last time that they’ll be together. She would finally break up with him, and he couldn’t bear that.

Sehun wouldn’t take hearing it from Aerin herself that she doesn’t love him anymore.

During the course of time that they didn’t see each other, Sehun greatly missed Aerin that not one second was his mind and heart taken by another thing or person. He felt like dying when he was separated from her. He’d give up everything just to be with her again.

But the fear and pain of Aerin leaving him was much, much more that he refused to see her.

It was agonizing, not being able to see her, but it was better than to be completely rejected.

“Sehun,” a very familiar voice suddenly came in from the door and called him. Nonetheless, Sehun continued to stare out at his opened window, unmoving. Uncaring. “I know you don’t want to see me now and you want to be alone, but I think three weeks are enough time for you to think things over… and besides, we need to talk.” Luhan approached him gingerly, sitting at the foot of his bed but not without leaving a good meter of distance between them.

“Sehun, I loved Aerin.” he stated. “I really loved her.”

Sehun stayed silent for a moment before sitting up from his lying position. “Then why her?” he asked, finally looking at Luhan in disdain. “Out of all people, why Dahee? You know that all this time, she was the cause of Aerin’s sufferings. She was the reason why Aerin’s so miserable.” Sehun’s eyebrows creased in disappointment as Luhan hung his head low. “Look, I don’t even care anymore if Aerin kept things a secret from me, about you and her being together before… but she trusted you.” he continued. “Aerin loved you, hyung. You were her first love, but instead of treasuring her... you only ed everything up.”

Luhan was at a loss for words. He couldn’t even look at Sehun straight, ashamed at the fact that everything that his brother was saying was right. “Sehun, like other people, I was fooled by her too and I know that I’m really an idiot for hurting Aerin like how I did.” Luhan said in a strained voice. “Believe me or not, Aerin was really the only one that I ever loved… until now, I do… but Aerin’s heart belongs to someone else now, someone who deserves her more.” he paused, breathing heavily as he pushed his phone towards Sehun, puzzling the male. “Since you refused to face her, answer any of her calls, nor read her messages, Aerin recorded a voice message there for you to hear. I know you’re still hurting, but please, stop pushing her away.” Luhan pleaded. “She loves you… Aerin loves you, Sehun, more than you ever think.” he got up and stood in front of Sehun. “I know that it might be too much for me to ask you of this after all I’ve done… so punch me. Hurt me however way you want, but please… just this time… give Aerin another chance.”

Sehun stood up from the bed and faced Luhan. He kept his face expressionless as he raised his fist, causing for Luhan to shut his eyes closed. He aimed for Luhan’s face with much force and strength, but right when it was finally only a centimetre away from the older male, he stopped, touched his cheeks with his fist carefully, and sighed.

“I could never hurt you, hyung, no matter how much of an idiot or a bastard you really are.” Sehun then smiled. “Not in this lifetime, at the very least.”

Luhan finally fluttered his eyes open and smiled as he saw Sehun. It didn’t matter to him if he was beaten to a pulp. All he wanted at that moment was for the tw
