Chapter 8

Don’t walk but Run

The morning alarm is ringing loudly through the school’s speakers. Sujeong and Daehyun wake up instantly because the next stage is starting soon. As soon as the alarm stops ringing, a familiar could be heard through the speakers.

“ Good morning my dear friends. It is your own king speaking here! Before I announce anything about the second stage, I will state something first. Me, the king of MTL High School is participating the stage two! “ After hearing the news, both Sujeong and Daehyun’s eyes widen as big as they could.

“ The stage two is Running Man! Have you ever watch that show? If you didn’t, I will kindly explain it to you all. As you look at your back, there will be a name tag on your shirt- “ Sujeong quickly looks at her back and saw the name tag on her back. She was about to tear the name tag but Daehyun holds her hand to prevent her from doing it.

“ I wouldn’t do that if I were you. “ Daehyun told to Ahri before turning his attention back to the speaker.

“ Inside the name tag there is a bomb installed inside of it. Once you rip someone’s name tag, the loser’s bomb will starts ticking about 10 seconds. You better make every second count or you will lose in this stage. Only five of you will survive in this stage before this stage starts, I would like to wish you all a good luck. “

With that the speakers got turn off and the school has gone silent once again. Daehyun turns around to face Sujeong, Sujeong’s face is pale and her body is trembling in fear. The thought of dying because of a ticking bomb is definitely not a good way to die. Daehyun noticed that Sujeong is afraid but no matter what they have to participate in order to kill the king and end this whole thing once and for all.

“ Only five would survive…. What will we do? “ Sujeong asks herself with her eyes wondering here and there. Daehyun, who stood still like a statue thinking of a strategy to survive this round.

“ What if we kill the king in this round? Then we can just finish the whole damn thing. “ Daehyun spoke his thoughts out loud for Sujeong to hear. Sujeong dazed for a while then snap back to reality.

“ Have you gone insane? “ Sujeong scoffs at him.

“ What? It’s the best plan ever! “ Daehyun argued back.

“ Yeah, great death plan for us. What if the other students are helping him and it turns out to be that person who killed five persons at once? It will just get us killed. I am not risking anything Daehyun. “ Sujeong glared at Daehyun who is looks annoyed.

“ Then what do we do in this round? Sit here and do nothing? “ Daehyun slightly raise his voice but it wasn’t that loud because he doesn’t want anyone to find out that they are here.

“ Yes, that’s my plan. “ Sujeong said it with confidence making Daehyun widen his eyes towards Sujeong who is looking cocky about her plan. Daehyun was about to knock some sense into Sujeong’s head but he stopped when he heard a loud boom around the corner. Both of them knew what exactly what has happen. Sujeong hide under the teacher’s table and Daehyun hide inside the cleaning supplies.

“ Kim Yura is out! I repeat Kim Yura is out! Only nine members are still alive, please eliminate the other players until there are only five members left. “ the announcement were spoken through the school speakers. After the announcement the whole school has gone quite again, both Sujeong and Daehyun comes out from their hiding place and went to the door to take a look out. After making sure the coast is clear, they sit down on the floor.

“ Now tell me more about your plan. “ Daehyun gives Sujeong an uncertain gaze.

“ We should stay here and let the other players kill each other off. I’m sure this place is safe enough to stay for a couple of hours. “ Sujeong speaks about her plan.

“ A couple of hours? We need more than a couple of hours Sujeong and you know that too. “ Daehyun speak his mind out.

“ then let’s make a plan, we will stay here for three full hours, after three hours have past we will get out of here. “ Sujeong tries to make a deal with Daehyun. Daehyun agrees it and they both of them hides at their previous hiding spot for three full hours.

The first hour has past and no announcement has been announced. They glance at the clock and they are still left with one and a half hour then the speakers’ blast out sounds.

“ Yoo Youngjae is out! I repeat Yoo Youngjae is out! Only eight members are still alive, please eliminate the rest of the members until there are only five members left. “ The speakers are all shut down once again after the announcement. They still remain inside their hiding spot like they said they would. When it has past three hours, the both of them comes out from their hiding spot and check the situation outside.

“ Should we go outside or stay here? “ Sujeong asks Daehyun.

“ I think we should go. They will eventually find this place if they can’t find anyone to kill, we should grab our weapons and leave this place. “ Daehyun
