Jungkook hurried through the halls to find his best friend, Jimin. He had to tell him the news. And quick.

“Jimin!” Jungkook called out.

He ran over to his friend who was at his locker and Jimin gave him a weird look.

“What?” He asked, shutting his locker.

“I’m in love,” Jongkook explained. “There is this girl and she is almost perfect for me.”

“Almost?” Jimin asked.

Jungkook gave a nervous chuckle. He started to twiddle his thumbs and his happy smile turned into a pout.

“She has a boyfriend.”

Jimin couldn’t help but laugh at his friend.

“Boyfriend,” Jimin repeated. “She has a boyfriend. I’m sorry for laughing. But seriously? Who’s the girl?”

Jungkook looked around and found her by her locker with her boyfriend, Daehyun.

“There,” Jungkook said, pointing to the girl whose name is Jo Minhee.

“You want Minhee?” Jimin said. “Have you seen her boyfriend? You don’t stand a chance.”

Jungkook glared at his friend who just shook his head and walked away, throwing a good luck over his shoulders.

“I have my aegyo. That always works on girls,” Jungkook said proudly.

He waited until the end of the day to talk to her. Luckily, he caught her alone at her locker and went up to her, giving a cute smile.

“Hi, I’m Jungkook,” he said.

“Don’t you hang out with Jimin?” Minhee asked.

Jungkook was thrown off by her question but nodded.

“But I’m better than him. He can’t do aegyo like me,” Jongkook said.

He showed off his aegyo only to get no reaction.

“Tell Jimin that I want my math notes back tomorrow, okay? I have to go but it was nice talking to you.”

Minhee shut her locker and Jungkook watched her walk away, meeting Daehyun before turning the corner.

“How did it go?” Jimin asked, coming up next to Jongkook.

“She wants her math notes back,” Jungkook grumbled.

He hit the locker in front of him in frustration and walked away. That night he couldn’t sleep as he thought about the different ways to make Minhee his. It was harder than he thought. But aegyo was his secret weapon. And his secret weapon worked every time. Except today.

“Does she not like younger guys? What if I danced for her? Does she like dancing? Ugh! Love is so hard.”

The next morning Jungkook trudged into school and met up with Jimin who handed him a stack of papers.

“What is this?” Jungkook asked.

He was too tired to make out the words on the page. It all looked foreign to him.

“Your excuse to talk to Minhee. Those are her math notes.”

Jungkook perked up and hugged Jimin.

“Thank you! You’re the best friend ever!”

Jungkook went running off to find Minhee and was happy to see her by herself reading a book. He walked up to her and held out the notes.

“Jimin asked me to give these to you,” Jungkook said.

Minhee looked up from her book and Jungkook couldn’t help but notice she’d been crying.

“Thanks, Jungkook.”

She took the notes and stuffed them in her bag and went back to her book. Jungkook stayed standing there, in absolute shock. His precious angel had been crying. Why wasn’t her boyfriend here to wipe her tears away and make things better?

“Where is Daehyun?” Jongkook asked.

“That isn’t your business,” Minhee snapped.

Jungkook lowered his head and apologized before running off. Minhee watched him hurry off and felt bad. She didn’t mean to snap at him. He was just concerned.

“But he has no reason to be concerned for me,” Minhee told herself.

The bell to head to class rang and Minhee wiped at her eyes and tried to make herself presentable before heading off. She took her usual seat next to Jimin and he passed her a flyer.

“I don’t know how much you’re into these things but we have a dance battle coming up and it’s no fun without a crowd. Interested?” Jimin asked.

“Who is ‘we’?” Minhee asked.

“Well it’s 2 vs 2. I’m partnered with Jungkook.”

And there was that name again. Jungkook. Minhee thought about asking Jimin what his deal was. But she decided against it.

“I’ll come,” Minhee told him.

“She’s coming?” Jungkook shrieked.

Jimin nodded and Jungkook started to pace the room. Knowing the girl he wanted was out there was nerve-wracking.

“And she had a big fight with Daehyun. So guess who is not only here but also single and ready to be impressed by your incredible dancing skills.”

Jungkook didn’t know if he could go out and dance now. He felt as if he forgot everything when it came to dance. Why couldn’t Jimin tell him this sooner? Now the pressure was on to impress her.

“Does she know I’m here?” Jungkook asked.

“She does. And I think she is excited to see you dance.”

Jungkook knew then what he had to do. The time soon came for Jimin and Jungkook’s battle. They headed out on stage and Jungkook scanned the audience real quick for her. He saw Minhee and she waved at him and gave him a smile. He grinned and waved back before Jimin nudged him to get ready. The music started and the battle began. The boys won with ease and moved onto the semi-finals. And then the finals came.

“You got this,” Jimin told Jungkook. “Whether or not we win this, Minhee is totally impressed by you. I can tell.”

Jungkook looked over to where she was sitting and saw she was chatting with the girl next to her.

“It’s time for the finals,” the DJ said. “And before we get this started is there anything that the teams want to say to one another?”

Jongkook raised his hand and went over to take the mic.

“I just want to say that Jo Minhee, this is for you.” He looked right at Minhee and gave her a wink.

The girls in the audience all went crazy and Minhee bit back her smile.

“Do you here that, Jo Minhee? He’s dancing for you. How about the other guys? Anything to say?”

They shook their head so the final battle began. Jongkook gave everything he had and prayed it would be enough. He saw that Jimin was giving it his all too. Soon they battle was over and it was time to announce the winner.

“And the winner is… J squared! Jungkook and Jimin congrats!”

The boys freaked out and hugged each other. Jungkook jumped up in the air and pumped his fist. He looked to where Minhee was and saw she was out her seat and applauding him along with the rest of the audience. Jungkook hopped off the stage and stood in front of Minhee.

“Would you like to have lunch with me to celebrate my win?” Jungkook asked.

“I’d love to,” Minhee said.

 Jungkook took her hand and lead her out the back, saying a quick goodbye to Jimin. At this moment he couldn’t be happier. He beat Daehyun. He got the girl.
