Chapter 9
Finally, A Happy Ever AfterI woke up at the feel of something wet and cold. I squinted my closed eyes, trying to avoid that feeling that makes my hair damp but failed when I still felt it after a lot of attempts.
“Be still!” Someone said in a scolding manner. A boy.
Wait... a boy? I tried to open my eyes but they were a bit blurry. I blinked as I tried to make it clearer, making my eyes adjust. As I did that, the boy’s figure in front of me became clearer and clearer until I recognized him as Luhan.
“What are you doing here?” My voice croaked as I asked. My throat feels so dry like I haven’t been drinking water for a while.
Luhan sighed and shook his head. “What am I doing here...?” He repeated almost in a grave tone as he turned to one side, picking up a glass of water and handing it for me to drink.
I sat up from what seems to be the sofa as I murmured a thank you to him, taking the glass of water and drinking its contents. When I finished, I looked up and met eyes with him. “...what?” I asked consciously.
“Do you know what happened?”
I frowned. “No...” I shook my head but stopped as soon as I did since my brain feels like it was juggling inside my head.
Luhan was surprised for a split second and shook his head one more time. I was about to say that I was getting tired of his actions when he said, “You were knocked out so easily.”
My eyes widened. “What? By who?”
Luhan frowned. “You really don’t remember?”
I copied his frown. “It's not like you to be so indirect. Just tell me already.” I said, my patience ticking off by the second.
“When you got out of the building, you walked your way so fast that I found it hard to catch up to you at first. I ran my way to be in front of you, you tried to avoid me but you failed miserably when you bumped into me and then you were gone.”
I gawked at his fast words. My mind slowly registering what he just said word for word. “Oh...” was the only thing that I could say.
His face hardened. “You went unconscious in the middle of the road and all you can say is ‘oh’?” He asked angrily.
“Well... it's not like I can do something about it...” I said, confused by his attitude.
He sighed. “Why did you faint anyway?”
I shrugged. “Lack of sleep?”
“Is your work killing you?”
I scratched the back of my neck. “No... It’s not that.” I murmured shyly, slightly blushing at the true reason why.
Luhan stared. “Can't sleep?” he murmured and something seemed to pop from his mind and covered his mouth to muffle his laugh. “Is it that you can't sleep because you are all alone?” he guessed.
My head shot up to look at him in shock. What? How did he..?
“I guessed it right!” He exclaimed and this time he laughed out loud.
This ticked me off. I am too transparent for him. I shot up from the sofa and walked out on him. I feel a bit lightheaded as I walked wobbly with my feet but I ignored them all because I was too pissed at him.
“Whoa... wait~!” I heard him say with humour in it.
I ignored him as well, deciding to walk inside my room but tripped at the small bump from the door. “Ah!”
“You see?” his voice nearing closer.
I hurriedly stood up to hide from further embarrassment of myself.
“Are you okay?” he finally reached me while I dusted off some invisible dirt.
“I'm fine.” I barked at him. “What do you care anyway...” I murmured gravely as I sat, not trusting myself to walk for now.
I watched him walk in at the corner of my eyes. “What are you doing?” I asked when he sat down next to me.
“Keeping you company, of course.”
“I don’t need one.”
“Really now?” He raised his one of his eyebrows at me.
I didn’t answer him. “Don't you have anything to do?”
He shrugged. “No, no I don’t.”
“Suit yourself.” I sighed. “Do whatever you want. I'm going back to sleep.” I prepared to lie down on the bed, facing away from him and shooed him away with my hands.
“No you can't sleep yet.” He told me, patting my leg as he did so.
I froze for a split second, finding his touch both very familiar and alien at the same time. It was weird. How long has it been since he last touched me? “Why not?” I asked not bothering to glance at him. I have to keep my distance.
“You haven’t eaten yet, idiot. And you haven’t taken a bath either. Sleep when you have done all of this.”
I sighed. “Fine.” I stood up carefully this time.
“I’ll go cook.” He volunteered, standing up from the bed as well.
I looked at him strangely. “What are you going to cook?”
He smiled shyly. “Ramen?”
I smirked. “Never mind then. I’ll cook.” I announced, walking my way out of the room.
“But you can't even walk straight.”
“Yes I can.” I told him confidently but kept my walk slow as I can to the kitchen, careful not to humiliate myself in front of him. I opened the fridge and some cabinets seeing nothing to cook but some ramen.
I turned around to see Luhan leaning on the wall. “Let’s just order some food.” I finalized.
He smiled and I couldn’t help but smile as well like nothing had happened.
We ended up eating Chinese takeout food since he asked me if I missed the Chinese food and he said that he missed it as well. We ate silently at first but as expected, Luhan initiated the conversation like he always does. He was always a good company ever since back in China. Among the 5 of them, I find him very approachable than the rest of his brothers. We talked about my family, my work back in China and some friends that we ended up having a debate together like the old times. After that, I cleaned up and we watched television. I was shy to ask what time he would go home and so, I waited silently. After all, he was very nice to me earlier.
After some time, I feel myself zoning out of consciousness.
“Hey.” Luhan called out just when I fell into a deep sleep.
“Hm?” I forced my eyes to open.
“Go take a bath already if you are sleepy.”
“Okay...” I agreed too easily.
I did a quick bath and changed to my comfortable clothes. Having a guest around, I wore my bra. I'm nervous in a way that I know that Luhan would soon leave and I would have the house all to myself once again. With this thought in mind, it made me more awake than ever. But my body was still tired—so damn tired.
“Ge.” I popped my head from my room to see Luhan still watching TV. His head turned to look at me and I gave him a small smile. “I'm going to sleep now. You’ll be okay there?”
Luhan nodded. “Yeah. I’ll show myself out soon.”
“Okay.” I then made my way to my bed, dreading this night. It's okay... Luhan is there outside... I can sleep... I convinced myself.
I lied down on the bed and closed my tired eyes. 15 minutes have passed and I still couldn’t sleep. I shifted from my bed, trying to get a good position to fall asleep but couldn’t.
“Hey.”
I froze at the sudden voice and slowly turned my head to look at the one who called me. Please don’t be a ghost. I prayed on the process. I saw Luhan standing by the door and I relaxed immediately. Thank God. I sighed. “What are you doing here?” I asked, not really mad, seeing him here.
“When do you plan on sleeping?” he asked instead of answering.
I frowned. “I'm working on it.” I muttered.
Luhan sighed and surprisingly walked his way inside the room. “Move aside.” He ordered.
“What are you doing?” I asked more stressfully.
“What do you think?”
“You can't come in here~!” I fretted.
“Why not? If it can make you sleep, then shouldn’t you be thankful I am here?”
I didn’t have an answer for that. He pushed me gently to one side and made himself comfortable on the other. I moved more to the edge on my side, avoiding his touch and placed a pillow in between us. I willed myself to not look at him but couldn't. I just stared at him like an idiot that I was like 5 years ago.
“What is this?” He asked when he was finally settled, frowning at the pillow that he saw once he turned to look at me.
“What does it look like?” I spat. Smirking at him, proud of the fact that he didn't like the pillow in between us. “You can't come close, understand?”
“Eh?” He asked, a mischievous smile playing on his face. “Why, this wasn’t here when you ‘slept’ in my room 5 years ago.” He emphasized the word ‘slept’.
I blushed since it really hit me. That day, I didn’t really sleep at all. How could I when he was there? And he was so close to me.
“It's different now.” I whispered more to myself than to him.
“Hm?” He raised one eyebrow. “How is it different?”
“Tsk. Whatever.” I dismissed, rolling my eyes. “Good night.” I then shifted, facing away from him. I closed my eyes, trying to sleep once again. But I couldn’t help remembering that Luhan was here on the bed with me. I couldn’t help but smile at the thought. I felt some bed movements but I ignored them. Soon, I finally feel myself falling into sleep but as I fell, I heard the words near my ears. “Good night, Xin.” I would have answered back at him. But it was too late--I already fell.
I added more details~ XD so yeah~!
