Ryeowook glanced over the book he was reading and looked at the girl who was in front of him. He was glad that it was winter so he was covered in a scarf and beanie that hid his face from view. The girl in front of him was busy highlighting sections on some pages she had photocopied from a heavy text book. He flicked his eyes to the title written on the page but he couldn’t read it as it was in a small font. The girl finished highlighting and took out a half filled music score before pausing to yawn and check the time on her watch. It was eleven pm but it was normal for a college student like her to still be studying, in fact the other tables in the library had at least one person sitting there. Ryeowook went back to his book. He had only managed to return to his studies after promotions for the first album had ended and he was determined to improve his composing skills. He knew that as the magnae of Super Junior 05 he would still be part of Super Junior 06 but he wanted to show that he was willing to work hard and not have his age be known as the reason he was still there.

He let out a small sigh, he had just finished his course work for one semester and he already had to catch up on yet another semester of work. The girl in front of him started to lightly tap her pen on the table. Irritated, he glared at her to see that she was completely engrossed with her music score. She had eight sheets spread out on the table and was staring at the eighth page which she had just completed. She sighed and gathered the score into a pile which she placed next to her. Suddenly her phone vibrated on the table and she gave Ryeowook an apologetic smile before grabbing it. Ryeowook watched as she raised an eyebrow while she read the message. The girl then picked up her bag from the floor, placing everything inside. She put on her scarf and beret before placing her coat on and walking towards the exit of the library.

Ryeowook suddenly received a message from Yoo Young Jin sunbae, a well known composer from SM Entertainment, telling him to come to the company building. Ryeowook welcomed this distraction and promptly returned the book he had been reading. After exiting the campus he walked over to a busy street where taxi drivers usually drove pass. He quickly flagged one down and asked the driver to take him to the SM entertainment building. When they arrived at the building Ryeowook payed the taxi driver and walked towards the entrance. Right in front of him was the girl from the library. Ryeowook continued walking, slightly confused. As it was late at night the doors to the company could only be opened by security key cards and Ryeowook pulled his out of his wallet. When he and the girl reached the door the girl pulled out her own card from her pocket and opened the door for both of them. Ryeowook walked in and removed the beanie and scarf that he was wearing, trying to get a closer look at the girl. He knew that no trainees were issued security passes but the girl looked far too young to be part of the staff. The girl walked down a hallway while Ryeowook walked over to the elevators to go to the fourth floor. When he arrived there he walked into his Young Jin sunbae’s office. After all the usual greetings Young Jin explained to Ryeowook that he was going to partner him with one of the company composers. Ryeowook straightened in his seat, excited that he was going to be able to exercise his talents. A knock was heard at the door and the girl from earlier walked in, her cheeks all rosy and flushed.

“”Ah, there you are!” Young Jin exclaimed excitedly. “I take it you took the stairs?”

“Neh, sunbae, it’s feels good to be able to run up four floors without getting tired.” She replied, taking of her scarf and beret.

Young Jin turned to Ryeowook and said, “This is Choi Minhee, the composer I was talking to you about.”

“But I’ve never seen or heard of her before!” Ryeowook exclaimed, jumping out of his seat to take a closer look at her.

Minhee coughed and turned to Young Jin who replied, “Minhee has been training at this company six months longer than you, which is why she wasn’t in the same batch of trainees even if you are the same age”

“Oh, I’m sorry” he replied, giving her a ninety degree bow.

“Gwenchana” Minhee replied bowing in return and holding out her hand. “Choi Minhee, it’s nice to finally meet you”

“Neh, I’m Kim Ryeowook” he replied sheepishly, shaking hands with her.

“Well now that you know each other let’s sit down and talk” Young Jin gestured to the chairs.

“Minhee I want you to work with Ryeowook and help him with composing. I know you both attend Inha University so it should be easy for you to meet each other.” He began, taking out some miscellaneous forms.

“What?” Minhee asked, “I’ve never seen him at my school”

“Um, actually I was sitting in front of you in the library just then.” Ryeowook answered, scratching his head.

“Anyway, I need you two to work on songs for the future. SM Entertainment wants to see more of your talents which is why Lee Soo Man requested you to be partnered together” Young Jin explained looking at both of them.

He smiled inwardly, the chemistry between the two was very obvious but the two clearly were not that experienced in relationships. Even though they had just met it could be seen by the way they were leaning towards each other as they sat in their individual chairs. He cleared his throat and continued on.

“Since Super Junior 05 has finished the first album you will be able to work together for a single and possibly some tracks for a new album. I want you and Ryeowook along with Super Junior 05 to create a new concept style together so it will be a collective team effort.”

Minhee and Ryeowook nodded together all focused on his words. When Young Jin finished he dismissed them and they both walked out.

“I guess we’ll be seeing each other at school more?” Minhee asked turning to Ryeowook.

“Well it depends on what course you’re taking” Ryeowook replied.

“Same one as you”

“How do you know?” Ryeowook asked, his cheeks lightly blushing.

“Saw it in an interview”

“So you’re an ELF?”

“Yes”

The two took an elevator down to the ground floor while continuing their conversation.

“So who’s your favourite member?” Ryeowook asked.

Minhee slightly choked before replying which caused Ryeowook to look at her with concern. However, Minhee had only choked because she had almost admitted that he was her favourite.

“What was your favourite song on the first album?” She asked, trying to avoid the question without him noticing.

Ryeowook had noticed but decided to let it slide. “I really liked the songs, ‘So I’ and ‘Way for Love’ ” he replied honestly.

“Really? They’re my favourite songs as too!” Minhee replied happily.

They were actually the songs that she had composed but it would be incredibly rude to point it out to someone she had just met and who was technically her sunbae even if she had trained longer than him. Before Super Junior 05 debuted one of the composing teachers had showed her compositions to Lee Soo Man who hired her as a lyricist and a composer even though she hadn’t finished college yet. Despite already having a job she was still training in acting, singing and dancing just in case Lee Soo Man decided to also debut her in the future.

The two reached the exit and bid each other farewell, leaving in taxi’s to their dormitories. When Ryeowook arrived at his dorm, he found Hankyung, Heechul and Eunhyuk in the kitchen. The smell of Hankyung’s Beijing Fried Rice wafted throughout the kitchen and Ryeowook suddenly felt hungry for a late night snack. He joined Heechul and Eunhyuk at the kitchen table and took out a bowl and chopsticks to signal that he also wanted a share in the fried rice.

“Annyeong hyungs” he said taking a seat next to a sleeping Eunhyuk.

Heechul just nodded while glancing possessively at the pan of fried rice that Hankyung was still cooking. Hankyung turned around to say hello and then turned back to the pan muttering in Chinese.

“Aiissh, that Heechul had to go and make me cook him a midnight snack, now I have to feed Eunhyuk and Ryeowook and if Shindong comes I will have to make even more food. Then they’ll make me watch the dishes all alone!”

“Yah! Hankyung Saranghae!” Heechul shouted.

That silenced Hankyung and he finished the fried rice, placing it into the waiting bowls. Eunhyuk suddenly woke up and began eating while Heechul took the opportunity to check his appearance in the reflection of a spoon. Ryeowook thanked Hankyung and sat there thinking about Minhee. He hadn’t been really confident about himself especially his appearance until he had been accepted into SM Entertainment. 

Heechul noticed this and tapped his dongsaeng on the forehead with the spoon.

“Yah Ryeowook, why aren’t you eating? You’re thinking about a girl aren’t you?” He asked teasing the magnae.

“Neh, Hyung” Ryeowook answered, still deep in his thoughts, “Wait! I didn’t mean that!”

“THE MAGNAE HAS FOUND A GIRLFRIEND!” Heechul yelled into the dorm, not caring who he woke up.

Most members were at the dorm for several different reasons and so they ran into the kitchen all hungry for news.

“Aniyo! I don’t have a girlfriend!” Ryeowook denied, blushing.

“You’re blushing!” shouted Kangin and Leeteuk.

“Don’t lie in front of God!” yelled Siwon.

“Tell us the truth!” Demanded Eunhyuk and Donghae.

The rest just edged closer to Ryeowook.

“Aish! Fine! I met a girl!” Shouted Ryeowook in frustration.

The kitchen erupted into cheers, deafening the poor magnae who just lay his head down on the kitchen bench mortified. Leeteuk noticed this and patted him on the back.

“This is good news Wookie! What is she like? Is she a trainee? An old friend? An old crush?” Leuteuk questioned.

The members who were cheering suddenly quietened to listen to Ryeowook’s answer.

“I....um...she....work....SM.......composer” Ryeowook mumbled into the bench.

“What?” Super Junior 05 chorused.

“She’s a composer” Ryeowook repeated, turning pink at the thought.

Ryeowook wasn’t actually sure of why he felt this way but it felt right. He had never had a crush on a girl before so the feeling was very exciting. Minhee was different to the other girls he had met before. Before his debut girls would just ignore him and weren’t interested. Now that he had debuted girls were all fighting for his attention. Minhee was different, she was confident, talented and best of all didn’t act all overexcited when she met him. Ryeowook loved all the ELF’s that supported him but his shy demeanour meant that sometimes he easily got scared of some fans which made him cling to his hyungs.

“What’s her name?” asked Hankyung in slightly broken Korean.

“Choi Minhee” Ryeowook replied blushing even more.

“Our Hoobae? She’s perfect for you!” Hankyung and Siwon exclaimed.

“You know her?” A surprised Ryeowook asked.

“Yes” replied everyone.

“How?”

Being the leader, Leeteuk answered for the team, “When Minhee joined SM Entertainment as a trainee she was put into Dancing Class A with Hankyung. She was also in Heechul’s acting class and Donghae’s vocals class.”

“How come I never met her then?” Ryeowook whined.

“We debuted, remember?” Eunhyuk said.

“Oh....” Ryeowook pouted.

“Don’t worry I’m pretty sure she told me one day that you were her favourite.” Heechul stated, smirking playfully.

“Yah, Shikkeuro! Kaja let’s leave before you say something stupider!” Hankyung said, in Korean that was suddenly perfect.

The two best friends left for their own apartment and the rest decided to let Ryeowook eat his fried rice in peace.

During the following year Minhee and Ryeowook would meet during lectures to share ideas for songs. As a composer Minhee already had a lot of experience but Ryeowook was having a little trouble with expressing his emotions as lyrics. Super Junior 05 wasn’t acting very enthusiastic about the project after Ryeowook informed them about it. They knew that some of them would have to leave but they hadn’t accepted it yet. This all changed when Kyuhyun joined them and Super Junior 05 was changed to Super Junior.

In 2007 after one year of composing and writing lyrics together Ryeowook, Minhee and Super Junior presented three original songs that they had composed together for the second album. They were titled: ‘Song For You’, ‘I Am’ and ‘Disco Drive’. The management approved of the songs and preparations for the album were confirmed.

During all this time Ryeowook was still shy around Minhee, since he didn’t have any experience he was continually asking his hyungs for advice. Heechul, being the most impatient in the group decided to set the two up together. Heechul knew Minhee’s personality very well and had observed that she was more calm and relaxed when she was with Ryeowook unlike when she would act all energetic with him and the rest of the boys. He took this as a sign of her feelings for Ryeowook and started looking for a window of opportunity.

One day, Heechul, Hankyung, Ryeowook and Minhee were at the recording studio to do some final recordings for the song ‘Marry U’. Heechul was pretending to have trouble with a certain line in his rap and called Hankyung, Ryeowook and Minhee into the recording booth. While pretending to be all distressed and upset he nudged Ryeowook with his which pushed him into Minhee who almost fell onto the floor. Hankyung who knew of Heechul’s plan stood nearby activating a hidden camera. Ryeowook let go of Minhee’s waist blushing profusely. Being the ever impatient diva he was Heechul shoved Ryeowook again and this time he landed on her lips. Both Ryeowook and Minhee looked at each other in shock and then they actually kissed each other, their eyes closing in the bliss. After a few seconds Heechul and Hankyung left the booth and Ryeowook stopped the kiss when he heard the door close. He helped Minhee of the floor and stared at the ground, speechless and suddenly shy. Minhee decided that she would have to make the first move so she gave him a hug.

“I like you” she said hugging him tightly her head fitting perfectly on his shoulder.

Ryeowook beamed and lifted Minhee’s face to his. “I like you too” he said and he gave her a kiss on the cheek.
