“Hey Il, are you okay?” I asked Ihoon as he finishes whipping a chocolate mousse.

He nodded. “I’m alright. Don’t worry,” he smiled weakly.

“You’re sure, huh?”

“Yes, 100%.” He gave me two thumbs up.

The next day, he didn’t go to work.

“He has fever,” Mrs. Byun told us.

“I’ll fill in for his work,” I volunteered.

“Ok, then. Yeol help her alright?” Mrs. Byun asked him who’s beside me.

He gave her a salute act then said, “Ma’am yes ma’am!”

Everyone giggled. His happy virus is spreading to us widely.

“Wait, Yeol.. Is it mayo or bacon first?” Sungyeol and I are now alone in the kitchen. He’s doing his task while helping me out with Ilhoon’s work. Thankfully, he’s very helpful enough or else this business will go down the drain because of my lack of knowledge and what-nots.

“Mayo first then bacon, lettuce, tomato,” he answered. How complicated does making bacon sandwich could be? I surely didn’t know until I’m supposed to make one.

“Thanks.” I then proceeded on finishing the sandwich. “Mayo, bacon, lettuce then tomato,” I murmured to myself as I placed the ingredients to the bread. I smiled as I saw my finished product.

“Good job manager!” Sungyeol told me from my behind. I turned around to smile at him but was then surprised as I saw how near he is to me.

Thump!

I stepped back. I turned around then held the sandwich plate and placed it to the counter after saying thanks to him.

What was that? Did my heart just flipped back there?

I looked back behind the kitchen as Bomi get a hold of the order. Sungyeol is now busy making three concoctions. He is smiling again.

Fireworks.

Where the hell did those fireworks in my head come from?

“Two slices of Strawberry cheesecake, manager,” Jiyoon told me.

“Coming right up!” I then dashed to the kitchen trying to focus on what I am doing.

Afternoon. Customers were few so I decided to go to the small office to finish my managerial paper works.. Or get a hold of myself.

Being with Sungyeol alone in the kitchen makes me jittery. That’s what I realized as I bond with him there. Bond? What a word Jaein. Worked together. That’s right. As we worked together. I facepalmed myself. What is happening to me?

The office phone then rang. After three rings I picked it up.

“Yoboseyo?” I asked.

“Is this Manager Jaein? I’m Minhyuk, Ilhoon’s brother,” the other line said.

“Yes?”

“Ilhoon has a fever as well as stomach flu,” Minhyuk said sadly. “He can’t go to work tomorrow.”

“It’s okay. I hope he gets well as soon as possible. Is it that bad?”

“We’re treating him now. The doctor said he’ll be alright after a couple of days rest.”

Couple of days. Couple of days with Sungyeol in the kitchen.

“Alright. Tell him to get fit and please send the café’s regards.”

“I will. Thank you,” Minhyuk then hung up.

Couple of days.
