Tortoise and Turtle
“Hey cous!” Yesung, my cousin, greeted me on the phone.
“Oh hi there oppa.. Anything the matter?” I asked.
“Can’t I call my beloved, beautiful cousin just to ask her how’s she doing?”
I scanned the Classified Ad on the newspaper I’m holding while listening to him. I have to find a job. I have to find a job. It’s summer and I have to find a job. I dont want to idle around.
“Err.. Sorry, I didnt catch that.” I chuckled. He laughed on the other line too.
“Are you busy? Am I calling on the wrong time?” he asked.
“Ani, it’s alright. I’m good. Still breathing, still the same.” I smiled even though I know he doesnt see it.
“Good. Ahmm so Jaien..”
“Yes?”
“Could I ask for a favor?”
“I knew it! A favor.” I laughed. “So what is it?”
He chuckled before answering my question. “What do you think about spending your summer on Jeju island?”
“What?”
“Jeju Island..”
That’s one of my favorite places on earth and he’s still asking? “For an all-expense paid trip, I’d love to go!”
“Ok, cool. I knew I called the right person,” he chuckled. “I’ll pay.”
“Jinja?” I quite surprised. “Wait, what’s the catch?” I asked. I know there is something I’ll do for him. Spending his money for me to go to Jeju Island doesnt seem to be a favor, in my opinion, at least.
“You know you’re one of the closest people I have on earth and you’re one of my favorites too, right?”
He’s complimenting me again. I stifled a chuckle. “Yes. Go on..”
“So ahmm.. Could you manage my cafe on Jeju Island?”
