Sehun had trouble sleeping that night, and it wasn't because of the rain sound out the window. He tossed and turned repeatedly on his bed, thinking and rethinking about what had happened during the match today.

“Aish!” Troubled, Sehun sat up, a thumb rubbing his temple. This makes no sense, Sehun thought as he tried to reason his way out of the problem.

“Meow,” he felt a furry body pressed against his calf and smiled. With both hands, he scooped up the large ball of white. “You couldn’t sleep either huh L?” He cooed as he scratched the neck of the Turkish Van, making her purr.

The softness of L’s fur calmed Sehun down; he leaned back against the wall with L pressed against his chest.

“You don’t think he did it on purpose do you?” He looked down at L’s odd colored eyes – they were looking at Sehun with curiosity – with the left amber eye oddly similar to the eyes of a certain someone. Mesmerized by the color of that one eye, Sehun went deeper into thoughts.

“Meow,” obviously unhappy of her owner zoning out on her, L called for Sehun’s attention.

Sehun blinked, he observed L’s innocent face and decided: Luhan just wasn’t good at soccer. He’s too weak and cute, just like L. And with that conclusion in mind, he drifted to dreamland, with L in his warm embrace.

He walked down the damp concrete pavement, hands clutched tightly around a tiny pink box. His cheerful steps were put into a halt when he spotted a familiar figure not far ahead chatting with someone. Confused, he stood and stared.

“Thump,” the box fell from his hand, the sound it made from its impact with the solid ground much resembled the breaking of his heart. Mouth slightly agape, he watched as the love of his life hugged some girl.

He stayed like this in the rain for a while, in the same posture, even after the objects of his attention disappeared from his view. Then with numbed feet, he dragged himself back to the school dorm.

The piercing sound of a scream tore through the peaceful morning.

When Luhan first stepped onto the school grounds in late morning, he was immediately shoved around by the mass of moving students. Confused and slightly annoyed, he had no choice but to go with the movement in order to avoid being trampled.

He was suddenly greeted by the sight of a dead hanging body.

Luhan’s eyes darted quickly to analyze the circumstances. The dormitory door labeled with the number ‘204’ was wide open, the room a mess with books and paper scattered all over the floor, and the smell of alcohol lingered in the air. Luhan’s nose scrunched at the stinging scent of liquor and took a mental note of the rest of the surrounding, memorizing it.

“What are you doing here?” He lifted his head. Luhan stared as the boy approaches him, with a worried and angry look on his face. Puzzled, Luhan tilted his head.

“This is a crime scene, you can’t be here,” Sehun almost yelled. The confused look on Luhan’s face made his rare compassion riled up. I must protect this cute little creature, Sehun thought absentmindedly.

Luhan scoffed at Sehun’s overreaction. Who does the boy think he is? He ignored Sehun and instead walked towards the body.

“Hey!” He heard Sehun protested when he walked straight past him.

Not far away, Luhan noticed Jongin comforting some other boy he had seen with Sehun. Kyungsoo, Luhan remarked when he remembered the boy’s name. Jongin had a hand on Kyungsoo’s back and softly while whispering “shh, it’s okay. There’s no blood at all, you can look.”

Interesting, Luhan stopped for a moment to observe the two. He quickly comprehended the relationship between them and looked away.

A middle age old man, who Luhan assumed to be a teacher here, was instructing others to lower the body. There were flashes of cameras occasionally to record the crime scene. The police still had not arrived, but the students and teachers worked calmly, as if they had been in similar situation many times before, and the onlookers did not seem the slightest bit afraid. Luhan couldn’t help but be impressed by the well constructed organization in a scenery like this. No wonder it’s one of the best crime investigatory school.

“Excuse me,” he lightly tapped the shoulder of a girl examining the dead body, judging from the white linen markings on the collar of her uniform, he confirmed that the girl was from the Medical Faculty.

The girl appeared to be dazed by Luhan’s look, but she quickly composed herself and muttered a response, “yes?”

“May I take a closer look?” the twinkle of seriousness in Luhan’s eyes was almost misleading and highly captivating.

“So let me get this right,” Sehun said. He pointed at the senior in front of him and then to the body, “you found him dead this morning when you came over at 6:45.”

The male in front of him jumped slightly at the word “dead” but still nodded.

“And why did you come over?” Sehun asked, bluntly.

The suspect shifted uncomfortably under Sehun’s gaze, making him even more suspicious to Sehun than he already is.“He,” the male stammered on, “I…”

“Sehun!” Donghyun silently thanked whoever that called out the name of the devil in front of him, for Sehun’s stare made Donghyun more anxious then he already was.

Sehun gave Donghyun one last glare before he trotted away, he was greeted by Jongin and a middle age man standing right by. Time had done its load on the man, leaving him with slightly wrinkled skin, especially in the forehead area from too much frowning, gray-streaked hair. But despite that one can still see that the man is attractive in his earlier years, with sharp features, tanned skin. Having the two men, young and old standing side by side, Sehun can see the facial resemblance much clearer, although he can’t say the same personality wise…

“Inspector Kim,” Sehun gave the man a lazy salute.

Inspector Kim, otherwise known as Kim Jungkwan simply nodded at Sehun before turning to face Jongin. “I expect you to go back to class and not to interfere or cause any trouble to the investigation.”

Jongin raised an eyebrow at his father’s words, “since when had I caused any trouble?”

“Don’t try to argue, we both know how careless you can be.” Kim Jungkwan spat, “now go back to your classroom and don’t try to meddle with any more police investigations.”

Sehun heard Jongin growled and couldn’t help but to be amused; the father and son relationship Jongin had can be so complicated. Sehun was just about to protest until Kim Jungkwan opened his mouth again.

“You too Sehun, you should get back to class.” He walked away deadpanned.

“If he really thinks we are going to do what he said,” Jongin gave a mischievous look to his partner in crime, “then he is so wrong.”

Sehun replied with a chuckle, “let’s just finish this case faster then.” He looked around, “where’s Kyungsoo hyung? There’s no blood in this scene,” Sehun pointed out.

Jongin’s face immediately fell to a worried some expression at the mention of his boyfriend’s name. “The victim is Kyungsoo’s friend.”

Both were silent for a good while. “I guess that gives us another reason to solve this,” Sehun spoke, slightly impatient due to a certain someone bothering him at the back of Sehun’s mind.

“Come, I got the suspect already.” He gestured Jongin to follow.

Luhan lightly grasped the jaw of the victim using a handkerchief. He turned to the girl kneeling beside and asked, “the mark was like this when he was freed from the hang rope?”

The girl nodded, “the linen mark on his neck was like this when they lowered him down.” She then pointed to some fade red scar on the men’s arm and shoulder, “these mark were there also, it seems as if he’s been scratched by sharp object.”

“What is the estimated time of death?”

“Around seven in the morning.”

“I see,” Luhan took a mental note at everything the girl said before continuing his observation.

“What about here?” he noticed the shorter fingernail with an uneven tip of the victim’s right index finger.

“I believe those are teeth marks,” the girl explained, “it seemed that he bit his fingernail, same goes with his left index finger.”

Luhan leaned in for a closer look before turning to the girl and smiled, “thank you for your help, Victoria.”

Slightly surprised, Victoria stuttered. “H-how did you know my name? I am not wearing my student ID tag today.”

“I heard about you, genius of the Forensic Faculty.”

“I believe it is safe enough to say that this isn’t a suicide.” Jongin said after observing Donghyun a good while from afar.

Sehun nodded in agreement, “the books are scattered around, and I heard from some forensic students saying that there are scars on the victim’s arms.”

“Meaning that the victim probably had a fight with someone.”

“I saw the body; there are linen marks at the back of the neck.”

“So whoever the victim was struggling with strangled him from the back?” Jongin deduced.

Sehun scratched the back of his head, “there’s something missing here, there’s something about the mark on the victim’s arms but I don’t quite remember.” He groaned in frustration, “if only I can get a hold of the forensic report.”

Jongin laughed bitterly. “Sorry bro, my father wouldn’t let us access it.”

Sehun shrugged, “it’s okay.” He nodded at Donghyun from afar, “that guy has the highest motive, he’s apparently the victim’s ‘acquaintance’.” Sehun quoted mid-air.  “I asked one of his close frie

Hi! I love your story and especially how you chose to portray Luhan's character. He's very admirable and manly but also shows his insecurities. I find that a lot of authors like to write Luhan as a weak and girly character in Hunhan fan fiction. It was a nice breath of fresh air! I also really admire your skills for writing such a good mystery/ detective story. Please continue with your updates because I really want to see what else you do with this story!
