It’s the guy from the bus.

Chanyeol was beckoning him over, smiling enthusiastically, his huge glasses in danger of falling right off his face. Sehun hesitated before making his way towards them, looking nervous. Luhan offered him a sweet, and he hesitated, looking to Chanyeol for permission before taking one.

“So how are you?” Luhan's attempt at making conversation and Tao gave him an incredulous look for it. He shrugs at him, unashamed. Sehun answered his boring questioin with a noncommittal, ‘Mm’ and Chanyeol took this as an invitation to continue talking about whatever he was talking about earlier, and Sehun didn't seem to mind, perhaps already used to the way the firey guy can talk the pants off anyone, so they let him.

About ten minutes later, the canteen door flies open, and someone pauses in the doorway and then charges towards them, shiny black hair flying out behind her. Kyunghee. She pulled up a chair and smiled at them, cheeks flushed prettily.

“I missed my bus” she exclaimed, earning a few pitying murmurs “I had to wait for the next one, it was so cold” she emphasised this by showing them her bluefingertips, and pressing them against Chanyeol's neck to make him scream. With Chanyeol frozen and flustered, she spent the next five minutes untangling her hair, while telling them about the creep on the bus who was looking at her strangely, unfortunately not unusual for her. Then she noticed Sehun,

“Oh! Who are you? Are you new?” she smiled at him winningly, and Tao rolled his eyes. Tao supposed you could say she was the social butterfly type. She only hung around with the nerds because Jongin liked them. Jongin was like, the epitome of cool, and also had the ability to make friends with nearly anyone. And he also wasn't with them right now, so Tao didn't really understand why she was here.

“Sehun, yes; I’m new. It was my first day yesterday” he grinned back at her. Tao felt slightly irritated; Kyunghee had this way of charming people, something he'd never been good at. Now before even being able to speak to this guy, Kyunghee was going to still him away and lure him away to hang with her friends, the pretty people. Well, it wasn't like he didn't deserve to be there, Tao conceded, but it still wasn't fair.

“What subjects are you taking? Let me see your timetable,” Kyunghee continued in a friendly manner, with a confidence Tao couldn't help but admire. Sehun obliged, handing her a neatly folded piece of paper then sitting back in his seat.

“I have this period free, and D period this afternoon too. It feels strange; in my last college, the timetable was colour coded, here its alphabetised.” Kyunghee was scanning his schedule, mentally comparing it to her own no doubt. She knew most of their lessons off by heart too. It was just one of her skills, memorising these kinds of things.

“Ooh, you have chemistry with Tao over there,” they glanced at each other, and Tao couldn’t help but feel that Sehun didn't look particularly pleased with this development. It kind of hurt; they'd never met and the only thought Tao had had about him was that he looked pretty cool.

“This is weird; you both have the all the same free periods and everything, but you only have this free with me. Aw.” What a shame, Tao think to himself, a little bit smug. From his peripheral vision, Tao saw Kyunghee pass the paper back to Sehun, making sure their fingertips brushed. He leaned to Luhan, and whispered,

“Kyunghee is on conquest mode again,” he snorted.

“Yeah, but Sehun didn’t really give her a second glance. Too bad for her, huh?”

“I didn’t notice” Tao replied, looking back at Sehun, who was staring out of the window on the far side of the canteen, even though there was nothing interesting going on out there. That was indeed a bit strange. Kyunghee was the prettiest girl around, what guy wouldn't at least feel flattered with her attention? Maybe he had a girlfriend already, Tao mused.

“I want a chocolate brownie” Chanyeol suddenly announced from the blue. They all turned to face him with varying responses ranging from ‘go buy one then’ to ‘Now?! It’s like nine forty six!’ following his statement. He fished around in his bag and pulled out his wallet, then proceeded to stride with his long narrow legs over to where the counter was, and talked directly to one of the ladies in charge, as there was no queue for food this early in the morning. They all watched in disbelief as he negotiated the size of his brownie, using flattery and all sorts of other youthful weapons, then returned with a huge slab of chocolate twice the size of a normal one.

"That did not just happen," Luhan gapes at him, "You didn't even pay for that!"

Heading from a class with Luhan, to chemistry with Sehun, Tao was slightly nervous. There weren't many of them in the group, which was perhaps the reason he was put in it, to make up the numbers. Waiting outside the classroom, because the previous lesson wasn’t finished yet, Tao watched other students go by on the way to their other classes. Soon enough Tao was daydreaming, and didn’t notice Sehun’s arrival until he was right in his face, waving. Tao was so startled he jumped away from the wall with a tiny yelp. Sehun raised an eyebrow, politely concealing his amusement.

“Did you know everyone else has already gone in?” he asked, pointing to the classroom door. Tao swore prettily, making Sehun truly laugh this time.

Walking into the lesson late has always been one of Tao's least favourite things to do, so he just smiled awkwardly, and headed to my seat, hoping the teacher wouldn't get annoyed that he was interrupting what he was saying. Sat down, Tao pulled out his pen and chemistry textbook. Sehun made his way to the teacher, explaining that he was a new student, and didn't know where to sit or what to do. There were a lot of vacant seats, so the teacher told him he could choose where he sat, if he wanted. Sehun smiled a little and looked at Tao. Tao's heart did a weird pulsey thing.

“Hey” Sehun whispered, after seating himself. He took an unused notebook from his bag and set it on the table as the lesson recommenced. They were learning the steps of an experiment that they would have to do in the next next lesson. They were supposed to take notes now and not need help when doing the actual experiment. Tao discovered that it was a good thing Sehun turned up when he did, because otherwise he would have had to work with someone else in the class. That didn't mean he hated the people in his class, he was just too shy to talk to them properly.

The lesson continued at a faster pace than normal with Sehun the apparent scientist taking control, and before Tao even realised that the lesson should be over by now, the lunch bell rang. Sehun waited for him by the door and they walked to the canteen together, discussing scientific things. Or rather, Sehun was explaining theories to Tao, who was suitably awed by his knowledge.

“Is the food good here?” Sehun asked, and Tao nodded. Normally school food was portrayed as bad, or even deadly, but here it was actually pretty good.

“Yeah, just don’t buy fries. Everyone buys fries. It's boring.”

"Noted," Sehun mock saluted. 

When they reach the canteen Tao unthinkingly took hold of Sehun’s arm, dragging him over to their table and seating themselves in the two empty seats.

“Jongin was sat there” Luhan warned him.

“I don’t care, Jongin can go screw himself,” he said childishly. Luhan laughed at him, then looked past him and laughed even harder. Tao experienced a sinking feeling in his stomach.

“He’s right behind me, isn’t he?” Tao sighed wearily. He turned around and sure enough Jongin was right there, holding a container of fries with an exaggerated territorial expression. Tao was about to get up, fearing his life, when Jongin mumbled. ‘whatever’ and sat on his lap, crushing Tao under his weight.

“Ahh!” Tao cries out, “You’re so heavy, I’m gonna die!” He tred to push him off, but Jongin resisted, squirming on top of him to keep the fries from going everywhere. He reached out to Luhan for assistance, but he just looked at him sceptically, cheek resting on his palm. Tao tried his luck with Sehun, however he just looked away, not even smirking anymore. Tao gave up, disheartened.

“At least give me one!” he bargained. Jongin took one from the container and held it in front of Tao's face like a true bully. Tao leaned forward to bite it out of his hand, since his hands wouldn't reach. He jerked it away out of his reach, laughing at his teasing.

“Are you going to give it to me or not?” Tao grumbles, pinching Jongin's waist, making him jerk violently- he's super ticklish- and nearly lose all his fries to the floor,

“Not now, I'm not, .” He declared shoving four in his mouth at once. It's a wonder anyone finds him attractive when he does things like that.

As they were arguing Tao noticed Sehun roll his eyes. Sehun then stood up, wallet in hand, and joined the queue for food, without looking back. Tao blinks. Did he do something to annoy him?

The moment Jongin realised Sehun had gone, he slips into the empty seat, leaving Tao winded and wondering what just happened.
