"Yonjee, Shin, you get down here now or you'll be late for school!"
"We're right here, Mom."
Minhee looked behind her at her fraternal twins. "Oh...well what are you waiting for? Get in the car!"
"Mom, we were waiting down here for you while you finished getting ready."
Minhee blushed. "I...Yonjee, just get your in the car."
"Temper, mom~ you don't want to have to be in anger management do you?"
"I need a therapist after raising you two."
"Why don't you just make our dad take responsibility for us then?"
Yonjee pinched Shin's side for saying that as their mom froze in the front seat of the car. "...did you two get your lunches?"
"Yes, Mom," they replied cautiously.
"Good...that's good."
"Mom, can we listen to DBSK again?"
"Not today, Yonjee."
"What's wrong Mom? Don't we both really like them?"
"Just not today okay? You can listen to anything else."
"Even 'I Just Had '?" Shin smirked and his mother mock-glared at him through rearview mirror, muttering under her breath. "I'm so killing Ronnie for letting you listen to that song."
Shin high-fived his sister and they snickered. "I know who's not getting cookies after dinner tonight~" Minhee smirked, proving where Shin got his smirk from. Yonjee and Shin's jaws dropped and Yonjee socked Shin on the arm.
"It's all your fault! Why'd you have to go and tease Mom?"
"Me? You're the one that wanted to listen to DBSK! What's so cool about that pretty boy group anyway? They're so lame!"
"They are not! Take that back you jealous wannabe loser!"
"Stop fighting! I haven't had coffee yet," Minhee sighed, half-joking and half-serious. She was a happier person with coffee in her system. Minhee thought she could definitely use some right then especially after what Shin had been saying so far.
"Mom, coffee's not good for you." Yonjee told her.
Shin nodded, "yeah, that's why we're almost as tall as you already."
Since they were currently at a stop light, Minhee playfully hit her head against the steering wheel and groaned. "Why did I have these troublesome twins?!"
"Because you love us~" they sang together.
She laughed in response, "yes I do and don't either of you forget it."
"How can we Mom? You put little love notes in our lunchboxes and notebooks when we're not looking. Do you know how embarrassing that is during class?"
Minhee only laughed and Yonjee joined her. "I don't find it embarrassing Mom. Saranghae~"
"There you go again! Stop saying random Korean words!"
"It's not random! I'm just telling Umma that I love her."
"You did it again! This is AMERICA!"
"Our names are Korean you know."
"So? Mom's real name is Spanish but she's not of Spanish descent at all."
"That's because the Philippines was once conquered by the Spaniards. Duh!" countered Yonjee, sticking her tongue out at her older - by three minutes - brother.
"I know that! That doesn't mean that she says Spanish words randomly."
"But we're actually half Korean Shin."
"Yeah, half Korean because of a father that doesn't even talk to us."
"Shin," Minhee said warningly. "Don't say anything about your father in a bad tone."
"He left you Mom. I don't want to accept anything about or from him. Why'd you have to give me a Korean name?"
"It's also Japanese."
"Mom."
"I like your name."
"Me too!"
Shin shook his head but patted his sister's head. To him, she was too innocent for her own good sometimes. If only he knew how much she secretly resented their father too but neither of them knew the whole story.
After all, their mother never told him or either of them for that matter. She just "held it in."
