Beginnings and Ends
It Was Just a JokeEvery story has a beginning, and an end. Weather the end is the beginning, and the beginning is the end is up to whoever writes the story. But sometimes the beginning and ending events cannot be controlled. For example, the beginning of a human's life begins when they're born, and the end of their life (their physical presence) ends when they die.
But the end of someone's life can be looked as the beginning of something new. A new life, or perhaps the birth of a star. Or it can be looked at as the beginning of a new end.
Some beginnings are happy, and end tragically. Sometime it's the other way around. But no matter what order the story is told, or what type of beginning and end there is, every beginning must conclude with an end.
Our protagonist, Sandara Park, began her story when she passed out of her mother, and took her first breaths of sterilized air. Unfortunately her beginning was her mother's end. And her mother's end was the beginning to her father's sorrow. His second sorrow, that is.
Sandara's brother, Sanghyun, began his life the same way she did. But his end came very soon when he was hit by a school bus. That began her father's sorrow.
Her story continued throughout the years. She grew, learned how to walk and talk, and she went to school.
When Sandara's father's story came to a peaceful end, she was shipped of to Seoul, where she lived in an apartment that would be paid for. And her story continued the way it usually did.
She felt like her story wasn't even a story. It was just a tape recorder repeating events over and over. She felt as if her story were being written in pencil, just waiting for it to fade away.
That is, until a boy came along, and gave her a purpose to write it in ink.
Now this boy, his story was indeed written in ink, but it was written on torn, dirty, and old paper. As he held it out for others to read it, they shook their heads, and simply spat on it. The girl he gave a purpose to smilied when he handed the manuscript to her. She calmy read all the words, taking her time with the dirty story. And when there was nothing left, she was glad to continue his story with him.
