Tiffany sat hunched over her desk in the hospital's research office, surrounded by stacks of papers and medical journals. Her brow furrowed in concentration as she meticulously reviewed the data related to mother's mortality rates. It had become a personal mission of hers to understand and improve the situation at Seoul Central Hospital.

Just as she was about to make another note in her research journal, the hospital's intercom crackled to life, and a voice echoed through the room.

"Dr. Hwang, please report to ER, examination room 1."

Sighing, Tiffany quickly saved her work and closed her laptop. She had been hoping for an uninterrupted day of research, but duty called. Rising from her chair, she grabbed her white coat and stethoscope before heading towards the hospital's emergency room.

Upon arrival, she was met by a nurse who explained the situation. Seolhyun.

Tiffany almost scoffed. She still remembers how the nurse talked about her to Taeyeon the day her girlfriend was confined in the hospital. She has no intention on talking to the nurse or be anywhere near her but alas, they are working in the same hospital so she has no choice.

Gotta tolerate her.

She went to the first examination area in the ER and saw a young girl, curled up in pain. Apparently, the girl was in severe pain due to intense period cramps, and they needed her expertise to assess the girl's condition.

Tiffany nodded as Seolhyun updated her on the case, her focus shifting to the task at hand.

The young girl's face was pale, and she winced with each wave of discomfort. Tiffany greeted her gently, her soothing words meant to alleviate the girl's anxiety.

"Hi there, I'm Dr. Hwang. I'm here to help you feel better. Can you tell me your name?"

"I'm Eunji."

"Nice to meet you, Eunji. I'm going to ask you a few questions and do an examination to figure out what's causing your pain, okay?"

Eunji nodded, her eyes filled with an evident pain.

Over the next hour, Tiffany conducted a thorough examination, asking Eunji questions about her medical history and symptoms.

"Eunji, can you describe the pain for me? Is it constant, or does it come and go?", Tiffany asked.

"It's really sharp, and it comes and goes, but it's been getting worse over the past few months."

"I see. Have you noticed any other symptoms, like heavy bleeding during your periods?"

"Yes, my periods are really heavy, and they last longer than they used to."

Tiffany performed the necessary tests and assessments, noting her findings in detail. She gently explained each step of the examination to Eunji to ease her anxiety.

As she suspected, the physical exam and Eunji's symptoms pointed toward a potential diagnosis.

"Based on what I've observed, Eunji, it's possible that you have a condition called endometriosis. It's when tissue similar to the lining of your uterus grows outside of it, causing pain and other symptoms."

Eunji's brows furrowed in curiosity.

"Endometriosis? Can you treat it?"

"Yes, there are treatments available to manage the pain and other symptoms. I'll discuss your options with you, but first, I'll need to confirm the diagnosis with some tests. I'll get someone to be with you shortly, okay?"

Exiting the examination room, Tiffany sighed, glad that it wasn't a complex medical procedure. Tiffany's thoughts returned to her ongoing research. It was a challenging one, but she was determined to make a difference in the lives of patients.

One case at a time.

As she was about to go into her way back to her office, there was a sudden commotion in the ER, which sent a ripple of urgency through the bustling hospital.

Tiffany froze in her tracks as the head of trauma, Dr. Kim Hyoyeon, stepped forward, her voice cutting through the chaos.

"Listen up, everyone! We have a multiple trauma situation incoming. There's been an explosion in the nearby mall, and we're expecting a significant number of casualties and injuries. I need all hands on deck—surgeons, nurses, and specialists. We must be prepared for anything."

Tiffany's heart raced as the gravity of Hyoyeon's words about the situation sank in. Her research and consultation with Eunji were momentarily forgotten as the hospital staff mobilized into action.

Doctors and nurses rushed to prepare trauma bays, arrange for additional supplies, and assemble trauma teams. Tiffany knew this scene all too well, but it never made these moments any less daunting.

She couldn't help but glance at Dr. Hyoyeon, who stood at the epicenter of the chaos. Tiffany had always admired her for her ability to work under such pressure.

The atmosphere in the hospital's ER was tense as few staff members gathered around a television screen, their expressions grim.

The news broadcast showed a chaotic and gruesome scene—an intense fire had erupted in a mall after an unexplained explosion. The footage displayed images of thick, billowing smoke, flames devouring storefronts, and terrified shoppers scrambling for safety.

Tiffany couldn't help but feel a growing sense of unease as she watched the horrifying scenes unfolding on the screen. Her thoughts immediately turned to Taeyeon.

She knew that Taeyeon and her team often responded to emergencies like this, and the uncertainty of their safety weighed heavily on her mind.

Oh, god, please be safe...

As the news report continued, the hospital staff's attention was abruptly redirected to the entrance of the ER.

"Incoming!"

Tiffany's heart raced as she saw Sooyoung and the trauma team wheeling in the first wave of burn victims. The sight was both horrific and heart-wrenching. These individuals had suffered severe burns, their skin mottled and blistered from the intense heat of the fire.

For a moment, Tiffany was frozen, her eyes locked onto the victims, their pain and anguish evident in their expressions. She have never seen anything like this before. She have always been just stuck on the OB floor and rarely goes to the ER.

She took a deep breath. I got this.

If Taeyeon is in the middle of the fire, saving victims. Then she's gonna help keep those people alive.

She snapped into action, choosing to focus on the patients for now.

"Prep an IV line, we need fluids stat," she called out to the nurses and medical assistants who were assisting her. "And someone get the burn dressings ready."

She focused her attention on one of the victims, a young woman with extensive burns on her arms and upper torso. Tiffany's heart ached for her, but she couldn't let her emotions overwhelm her. She needed to provide immediate care.

"Can you hear me?" Tiffany asked gently as she approached the woman. The patient nodded weakly, her voice barely a whisper.

The doctor began assessing the extent of the burns, her gloved fingers carefully examining the damaged skin. She could see the tissue had been deeply affected, and her heart sank. These patients would require extensive treatment, and the road to recovery would be long and arduous.

As Tiffany worked, she offered reassurance to the injured woman, doing her best to keep her calm. "We're going to take care of you. You're safe now, okay?"

The burn victim managed a faint smile, her eyes teary. Tiffany can only imagine the pain she was undoubtedly in.

Her mind raced as she coordinated with the trauma team and nurses to provide immediate care to the victims. The ER had transformed into a well-oiled machine, with everyone working tirelessly to stabilize the injured and provide comfort in the midst of tragedy.

This is better. Working is making her think less of what could possibly be happening in the scene.

Hours passed, and the initial chaos began to subside. The victims had been stabilized and were being prepped for transport to the burn unit for further treatment. Tiffany couldn't help but feel a sense of exhaustion wash over her. The physical and emotional toll of treating these patients was intense.

As she stepped back for a moment to catch her breath, she couldn't shake the worry that gnawed at her. She felt her breathing to be shaky, and it's just getting too much, she felt like she was gonna have a panic attack.

She hasn't received any updates about Taeyeon and her team. Her girlfriend's safety was still a looming question mark in her mind, and it's taking everything on her to not just go there and see for herself if Taeyeon is safe.

Sunny, who was also attending to the patients, approached Tiffany with concern in her eyes.

"Tiffany, are you okay? You've been working non-stop," Sunny said, her voice filled with genuine worry.

Tiffany managed a tired smile. "I'm okay, Sunny."

Sunny sighed, knowing what's running on her friend's mind. "You're worried about Taeyeon."

"I can't help it." She gulped. "She warned me about this, you know? She said she doesn't want to burden me with worry everytime she goes to work."

"Hmm." Sunny patted Tiffany's shoulder. "It can't be helped. But they're great firefighters. She has a great team. I'm sure they're doing everything they can to keep each other safe."
