The Silent Sniper

 

He watched as inmates gathered around the open basketball court. Some were playing while the others kept on chit chatting. Not to mention somewhere… well, was glaring at him. He ignored them and kept on reading her book. It was a book he had read so many times but never got bored by it. He was so engrossed in reading and didn’t realize that a group of 10 inmates marching towards him. Their leader, Sangyeon, stopped in front of him and smirked.

 

“Choi.”

 

He again ignored them. Sangyeon was pissed off, so he forcefully grabbed the book. He had an evil smile.

 

“What are you reading?”

 

His other group members were laughing at him. He sighed and stood up.

 

“Give it back.”

 

“Why? Your mommy gave it to you?”

 

Laughter erupted and alerted the other inmates who then joined in by circling around the scene. Sangyeon flipped open the book and saw something was written on the first page.

 

“I’ll be back. Just wait. Ohhhh… you’re waiting for you lover, huh, Choi Yena?”

 

The guy named Yena didn’t do anything but ask for his book to be returned. Sangyeon tossed the book up in the air before holding it back. He does it repeatedly.

 

“You want it? Come and get it.”

 

Yena didn’t move. He stood rooted on the pavement. Sangyeon and his gang kept on laughing as if finding it a joke. Sangyeon finally stopped laughing and leaned forward.

 

“I don’t think so. I’ll keep it for you.”

 

He turned around with one hand holding onto Yena’s book and the other inside his prison jumper pocket, walking away from Yena. His gang followed suit but was still in a laughing fit. They find it funny how Yena never fights back. Maybe today he would since they kind of knowing that he treasures his book so much. But he didn’t. They were a few meters away when Yena bent down and grabbed a small stone from the pavement. He looked at the retrieving back of Sangyeon.

 

“Sangyeon!”

 

He screamed his name stopping Sangyeon on her tracks.

 

“So finally, Choi Yena is fighting back?”

 

Sangyeon turned around but before he could continue, Yena had already thrown the stone in his hand towards Sangyeon. It hit his left eye. He screamed in pain. His gang were in shock. They were at least 10 meters away from Yena, but the guy managed to hurt Sangyeon. One of his gang members quickly helped Sangyeon up only to see blood coming from his left eye. He gasped. How did Yena managed to do it? Yena bent down and took more stones. He threw one once again and this time it hit his forehead. Sangyeon screamed again. His gang tried to help him, but he pushed them away with hands covering his bleeding eye and forehead. His gaze was on Yena. Yena on the other hand remained calm. But a smile slowly formed on his face.

 

“I didn’t miss. I was really aiming for your forehead.”

 

Other inmates slowly backed away. For 5 years, they had never seen Yena fighting back. But today what they saw was frightening them. It was ridiculous. No way could he have thrown it so accurately. Sangyeon had enough. He was about to fight back when he felt a small force on his right eye. Yena had thrown another stone. His target was his remaining eye. Sangyeon fell on his knees and let go of the book. He covered both his eyes and screamed loudly due to the excessive pain in both eyes. Yena ignored the frightening look that the other inmates cast upon him and walked towards Sangyeon. He picked up his book and glanced towards Sangyeon who was still in pain.

 

“Next time, I’ll let you feed on it.”

 

He left the scene and entered the building. He was about to walk along the walkaway when He saw a guy standing a few feet in front of him. He knew who he was. He clenched his fist. But before he could jump on him, someone tazed him from behind. Next thing he knew, he had succumbed to the dark surroundings.

The Kid Fighter

 

“Yuri! Yuri!”

 

A loud cheer was heard coming from the open boxing ring. In this prison every week, there will be a boxing match contest organized by the prison management for their own entertainment. Right now, a small girl with height only 160cm was fighting a buff and muscle ex gym trainer who convicted assault and ended up here. So far, the buff looking girl is winning the match. She had punched Yuri multiple times. Blood can be seen on Yuri’s lips.

 

“Oh, she’s pissed off.”

 

For more senior inmates, they had watched Yuri like this all the time. She would let her opponent have her fun before destroying her in seconds. They heard rumors saying that Yuri was a fighter before she came here but no one can clarify it. The buff looking girl was already celebrating when suddenly Yuri pushed herself up. She was smiling.

 

“I’m done playing. Now for the real entertainment.”

 

The other girl charged towards her with a few fast jabs, but Yuri easily dodged it. She tried even harder, but she still couldn’t touch her opponent. She suddenly pulled away when she saw Yuri had sneakily patted her cheek while dodging her attack earlier.

 

“I told you; I’m not going to go easy on you.”

 

Yuri attacked her opponent. Her punches hit her opponent’s body each time. With one last blow, she sent the girl to the floor not moving.

 

“I should have let you play longer.”

 

Loud cheering erupted around the hall when Yuri’s opponent fell face first. Some were even exchanging money supposedly be a bet between groups and each time it will be Yuri who came out as a winner. Yuri smirked and raised both her arms up.

 

“The winner and still champion, Jo Yuri!”

 

Cheers and claps get louder each time. Yuri looked down on her opponent but walked away leaving the center ring. One of the wardens marched towards her.

 

“Great match.”

 

Yuri ignored him and took off her boxing glove and pulled away the white tape that was wrapping around her hands. She never really liked it when she had to fight just to entertain the prison wardens. She did it just to keep her body in shape. She walked past him and left the hall heading outside hoping she could clear her mind.

 

“Jo Yuri?”

 

That voice. No matter how long it was, she would never forget the way it sounded. It belongs to the person that put her in here. She turned around and saw Jungshik standing in front of her in his black suit, his pride.

 

“I always thought the day I met you again, it will be when I had my hands at you.”

 

Jungshik didn’t smile. Yuri saw another girl beside him. She recognized her.

 

“Agent Huh Yunjin. Fancy on seeing you with him.”

 

Despite Yuri is a criminal and everything, Yunjin still bowed a little showing her respect to her. Yuri just smiled before her eyes travelled back at Junghsik who remained silent.

 

“I guess you’re here for something.”

 

“Yes, but to answer you that question, you have to come with me.”

 

“Why should I?”

 

Yuri saw Jungshik looked a bit uncomfortable. If it was Chaewon, Yuri would wait for him to mumble the only codename Chaewon would use each time she tried on sending messages. Jungshik inhaled.

 

“Minju’s smile.”

 

That had a small smile appeared on Yuri’s face. Chaewon told him that if he wanted them to follow him, he had to convey her message that only her team would know.

 

“Are you coming or not?”

 

“Lead the way,” was the only answer that Jungshik wanted to hear.

The Ice-Cold Soldier

 

Eunbi walked inside the cafeteria. The moment she stepped in, everyone became silent as if a devil just walked in. They felt as if a dark aura surrounded her, and it sent shivers down their spine. This is the effect that Kwon Eunbi emitted that frightened even the most gruesome inmates. She took the table where no one dares to sit down. The moment her touched the chair, a tray of food was placed in front of her by another inmate. Eunbi looked up and she quickly scrambled back to her seat totally avoiding Eunbi’s cold stare.

 

She didn’t say anything but looked up front. Her eyes landed on other inmates named Chaehyun.

 

“You.”

 

Chaehyun who had been praying hard felt her world just collapsed in front of her when Eunbi’s eyes were staring at her. She cursed her luck.

 

“M-Me?”

 

She knew it was her when Eunbi just gave her that cold stare. She silently sighed and marched forwards to where Eunbi was. Stopping her trance in front of Eunbi, she waited for her to continue. Eunbi pushed her tray of food towards Chaehyun.

 

“Taste it.”

 

Chaehyun felt her body tremble in fear when Eunbi said it. With trembling hand, she picked up a fork and one by one she tasted every different dish on Eunbi’s tray until her eyes widened when she felt her tongue burning so much. She let her fork go and screamed in pain when whatever food that touched burned her every flesh. It was like tasting acid poured inside . Eunbi watched as Chaehyun fell on the floor struggling to get all the contents out. She sighed and stood up.

 

“Who did this?”

 

Her eyes travelled from one inmate to another searching for any guilty body sign.

 

‘There you are.’

 

Eunbi found her target when her eyes twitched a little while she was scanning around. How brave of the girl to try and poison her. Eunbi grabbed onto her food tray and with so much force, she threw it across the hall towards her target. It zoomed past her target head and hit the column behind her with a loud sound. All eyes were now on the girl whom Eunbi just made as her target.

 

“If I want you dead, that tray would have hit your pretty face.”

 

Eunbi marched toward her and every step she took sent shivers down her target’s spine. What in the world she got herself into. Eunbi finally stops just a few feet away from her.

 

“Back then, they called me the ice-cold soldier. Want to know why?”

 

The girl didn’t manage on uttering a word when Eunbi’s right hand grabbed on her neck and with only light squeeze, she felt her airways was blocked. She grabbed Eunbi’s hand and tried prying her away, but she was too strong. On her last resort, she used her right arm and aimed for Eunbi. Eunbi swiftly caught her knuckle and with so much force, she turned it aside earning a wide eye from her attacker. She might have tried screaming but with her vent blocked, there’s no way she can scream her pain out.

 

“Because I fight without feelings.”

 

Bystanders distanced themselves afraid they became Eunbi’s next target. They watched in horror when the girl’s face turned blue. The girl felt her knuckle bones making sound when Eunbi’s grip tightened. Her bones were crushed under her deadly grip.

 

“Kwon Eunbi!”

 

Eunbi turned around and saw Jungshik and Yunjin firing two rounds at her. She jumped away leaving the girl on the floor. Eunbi felt a bullet graze past her arms, but the pain didn’t reach her brain. She had learned to stop her brain from receiving any information if she was hurt. She ran towards Jungshik and Yunjin and avoided another round of fire aiming at her. She finally reached Jungshik and grabbed his gun pulling him forward towards her. With an evil smile, she punched his face. Yunjin’s eyes widened watching as Eunbi was too fast for her. She aimed her gun at her but the moment she saw Eunbi looking at her, she felt her hand go numb. That icy cold stare of hers. She had to witness it herself. Eunbi glanced back at Jungshik and hooked her arms around his head pulling him downwards and kneed his face. He screamed and fired his gun randomly causing people to scatter away.
