Chapter 17

The Start of Something New

When they arrived in Sydney Jake led the way out of the jetbridge, the jacket still resting on his shoulders as Jeonggeun followed close behind him.

Chan was waiting in the terminal in his guard clothing, his arms crossed over his chest as he kept up an air of indifference to make people avoid him.

“Chan,” greeted Jake once he stood in front of Chan. “I feel like it's still too early to be back home,” he remarked, bowing his head in respect before lifting his head at Chan's soft chuckle.

“It has been a while,” agreed Chan as he nodded his head. “Come now, it's time to head home,” he added, turning and walking away.

Jake and Jeonggeun follow after him, mixed feelings going through the both of them.

Jake was ecstatic to be home, but at the same time he wasn't sure what his father had done to cause them to come back early. He just hoped that Jeongwoo, the youngest between himself and his brothers, was safe.

Jeonggeun was apprehensive to be back in Australia, having left the life behind for good when he went to finish school in Korea. He knew that he would have to return when he graduated, but he felt like being back now was a slap in the face. He didn't want to come back, but he knew he had no choice but to come back at this point. He was still under Jake's watchful eye anyway.

When they got back to the office buildings Jake and Jeonggeun were led to their rooms, Jake asking about his youngest brother immediately. Jake and Jeonggeun were led to the residential part of the building and led to Jeongwoo's room.

“Jeongwoo, you have some guests!” Called Chan before he opened the door to Jeongwoo's room.

Jeongwoo was sitting in bed, reading a book when the door opened. He looked up to see who was there, getting to his feet when he saw Jake standing in the doorway.

“Hey Jeongwoo,” greeted Jake as he grinned.

Jeongwoo ran over and tackled Jake, giggling in happiness as Jake hugged him back.

“Good to see you too,” muttered Jake as he moved away from Jeongwoo.

Jeonggeun understood now, where Jake's ease with taking care of people like Seobin came from. He saw how much Jeongwoo acted like Seobin in many ways, but Jeongwoo was mute as far as Jeonggeun could tell. Maybe that was his soulmate mark or something.

“We'll be down the hall okay?” Asked Jake as he looked at Jeongwoo.

Jeongwoo nodded, stepping away from Jake and Jeonggeun before closing the door when Jake moved from the doorway.

Jake let out a soft sigh before turning and walking away from Jeongwoo's room and towards his own designated room. Jeonggeun followed after him, Chan leaving them alone once they got to their rooms.

“I'll be across the hall, if you need me,” reminded Jeonggeun as he turned to Jake. “So come over whenever,” he added before opening the door and entering his room. He closed the door behind him, leaving Jake standing in the hallway.

Jake took a second to stare at the door before opening it, entering the room and closing the door behind him. He looked around the familiar room, a feeling of nostalgia hitting him as he looked around. “Well,” he grumbled, walking over to his bed and flopping down on it, burying his face in his pillow.

~

Jeongwoo went to knock on the door to Jake's room, opening the door when Jake shouted for him to enter.

“Oh, Jeongwoo, what's up?” Asked Jake as he sat up in bed, looking at his brother with concern.

Jeongwoo walked in, closing the door behind him before walking over to Jake who held out his arms for him to fall into. Jeongwoo let himself fall foward into Jake's arms with a small whimper, hugging Jake tightly.

“I missed you too, kiddo,” muttered Jake as he hugged Jeongwoo back.

Jeongwoo pulled away, looking at Jake with a questioning look.

“I'm here to see what Hwon wants to do with father,” explained Jake as he nodded his head. “After that I'm spending the summer, well winter, here and then going back,” he added. “I was wondering if you wanted to come back with me for this last year?” He asked. “I know you understand Korean so it won't be too hard to live there for a year,” he explained.

Jeongwoo thought about it, his eyebrows furrowing in thought as he looked thoughtful.

“You don't have to answer now, but you can answer after this trial thing,” reassured Jake as he nodded his head. “I'm sure Seungmin would be okay with taking you in too, if you wanted,” he added.

Jeongwoo shook his head, meaning he didn't want to go to their oldest brother's place.

“So with me then?” Asked Jake as he made sure he was understanding things correctly.

Jeongwoo nodded at the idea, confirming what Jake had asked.

“Well, when we get back to Korea I want you to meet someone,” started Jake as he smiled gently. “His name's Seobin,” he explained. “But he doesn't have many friends due to an accident that left him different than the others,” he added. “Will you be his friend?” He asked.

Jeongwoo eagerly nodded, grinning in response at Jake who relaxed and grinned back at him.

“Thanks kiddo,” mumbled Jake as he let a genuine grin appear, reaching over and tousling Jeongwoo's hair.

Jeongwoo moved back with a whine in annoyance, pouting at Jake's teasing smirk.

“Come here you!” Jake jokingly demanded as he grabbed Jeongwoo and started tickling him.

Jeongwoo burst out laughing as he struggled to get away from Jake's tickle attack.

“Glad to see those two having fun,” commented Jeonggeun as he listened to what was going on across the hall from his room as he lay on his back in bed.

“Will I get this happiness I often wonder?” He asked himself as he held his hand in front of his face, palm face up as he examined the tattoo. “Is it going to change color, or is it going to stay the same?” He mused, thinking about the events that led up to this point.

“I guess, we shall see,” he sighed, letting his arm drop to his chest and closing his eyes.

~

Jake and Jeongwoo stood before Hwon who nodded at them to step forward. Jake stepped forward first, making sure that Jeongwoo would follow before they stopped in front of Hwon's desk.

“You've been given ample time to think about what will happen to your father, Jake,” started Hwon as he studied the two brothers in front of him.

“I know,” sighed Jake as he shook his head. “I think I'm going to continue the way I'm going,” he explained. “Even more now since I've been able to get proof of what happened to get to this point,” he added.

“Even if they're not related to you by blood you choose to put them in your care, why?” Asked Hwon.

“Being related to them by blood isn't something that ever crossed my mind,” replied Jake as he shook his head. “It was the fact that despite all that's happened they still supported me and my goals, my dreams, everything,” he explained. “That's better than I could ever ask for,” he mused, looking thoughtful. “But because of that, I will continue keeping both Seungmin and Jeongwoo under my protection,” he concluded, nodding in confirmation.

“Okay,” confirmed Hwon as he nodded his head. “Then you wouldn't oppose to your father being punished for his crimes?” He asked, the door opening behind them and Allen shoving someone into the room.

“Do I need to be here for that?” Asked Jake as he and Jeongwoo turned to face their father. “Or rather, does Jeongwoo need to be here for that?” He asked.

“Jeongwoo can leave," responded Hwon. "Jake you will have to be here for his," he added, leaning back in his chair and leaving his hand on the table as he dismissed Jeongwoo.

“I'll be out soon okay?” Asked Jake as he turned to Jeongwoo. “Can you wait outside for me?” He asked.

Jeongwoo looked hesitant, but soon nodded and walked towards the door, stepping around their father before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.

“Now, for your execution,” started Hwon as he got up and walked around to stand in front of Jake's father.

Also yes, in their next life their roles are reversed. And those who figured it out that it was this person who was Minhyuk's soulmate, congrats!

Chapter 2: Jeonggeun wants to seem more confident and also he prefers to ignore important things such as the color of the rose on his palm.

Black has mostly negative meaning but maybe for the boys it will have a unique meaning!

Chapter 1: Jake has to be really careful as Jeonggeun can cause some trouble or a fight could break out. It is understandable that Jeonggeun is not happy, who would want someone constantly watching them? But he has no choice. His backstory makes me very curious, I wonder what happened with his brother. Why did he leave Jeonggeun ?

Jake isn’t much better, he has to make sure that he and his family won’t have to pay for their father’s debt.

So far the story seems pretty interesting. Good job, author!
